(45) Bring in the wisdom of Swanson! + links

By Sati. Friday, September 21, 2012
  • I LITERALLY can't wait to see new episode of Parks and Recreation. I wonder what new Ron Swanson wisdom we will hear. There are many shocking things about this year Emmy nominations but the biggest outrage is by far the lack of nomination for amazing Nick Offerman
  • I saw most of deleted scenes from Prometheus (screencaps from those and the movie will be featured in next month's visual parallels where I will compare it to Alien) and Charlize Theron must have dreamt shooting sex scene with Idris Elba, because unless it happens in final scene called Paradise that scene doesn't exist. Sure, calling it Paradise would be appropriate but I doubt Ridley Scott ventured into my mind and shot 5 minute-long sex scene with them for my own viewing pleasure and then called it that. I can't blame her by the way. And who knows, maybe the set was truly...fun and inspiring place. You have him there and Fassbender. And you are Theron. That's like dream team right there.
  • And about Prometheus - it looks like the studio will pull the same stunt as they did with Blade Runner - God one knows how many different cuts of this one we will see. Even deleted scenes aren't appearing on just one disc. First there were five from DVD. Then there was couple more from ITunes early release of the film. And the final bunch of deleted stuff will be on Blu Ray. This is insane.
  • Downton Abbey season 3 premiere was good, but I was hoping for more of Smith/McLaine showdown scenes. Hopefully we will get some of that in the second episode. The episode as a whole didn't capture me quite as much as first two seasons.
  • I never thought I'd say that but the last episode of The Thick of It was disappointing. And it had Malcolm in it, which only makes it more shocking. Fortunately, the play on the tittle - Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - happened.
  • Why the fuck is Twitter not working whenever I want to tweet something? It keeps happening. So annoying.
  • Oscar nominations will be announced before GG, SAG and BAFTA ceremonies. I'm betting if DiCaprio doesn't get nominated there is no way he will attend any of those.
  • Boardwalk Empire season 3 premiere was fantastic. Loved every second of it. Michael Shannon is honestly one of the best actors working today, he was so good and that florist scene was amazing. I really hope his character will be less miserable this season. Also - I was horrified at the beginning of the episode. I don't much care if someone dies on the show - unless we're talking about finale of season 3 of The Wire - but you should never ever kill someone who has a dog, especially when that dog is present and you're in the middle of nowhere. I was so stressed out for most of the episode but then it turned out the dog was saved. Phew!
  • Baby, I'm keeping my fingers crossed this Sunday.
  • I saw A Fish Called Wanda this week and it was really funny. I saw this movie years ago so I decided it needs to be rewatched. I felt dirty and absolutely terrible after laughing for 10 minutes straight after the second Yorkie was assassinated. No wonder Gustav keeps looking suspiciously at me.
  • I also rewatched Zack and Miri Make a Porno. This is one of my favorite comedies and it really doesn't get old. Such a hilarious movie. Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks are fantastic in this one.
  • Speaking of Gustav. My mother went away for her vacation for three whole weeks which means three things - 1. Me and Gustav are alone in the house. 2. I have to get up at 5:30 AM every day to walk him. 3. There is one empty bed in the house. And obviously Gustav figured he won't be sleeping on his own tiny bed like some loser. And this, this is what it looks like:
  • What do I think of The Hobbit?
  • There is a shitstorm going on under Girls article,. I truly think If I ever post my Kick Ass review I will receive death threats. Again. But hey, apparently the sequel to Kick Ass is being shot in Toronto so pretty soon there will be shitstorm again as I'm certain I won't like this one either.

    1. Fortunetly Gustav sleeps a lot so that's good, hope your dog is the same :)

Oh. Zack and Miri is so underrated. Kevin Smith really knows how to create likable characters.

  3. I'm surprised no one has made a spoof Ron Swanson leadership book yet. Or have they already?

I just had horrific visions: Around 20 years from now, a biopic movie about Liam Neeson will be made and his character will be played by.... Justin Bieber!! What kind of dystopian future have we gotten ourselves into?

That would be terrible future indeed :) Hopefully Bieber will be long forgotten before this happens ^^

  4. You can post your Kick-Ass review, I only watched it because Aaron Johnson is way too cute to be overlooked. I might watch Parks and Rec this afternoon, never fails to make me laugh. Oh come on, you MUST be excited for The Hobbit - Martin Freeman is like, the most adorable british thing on earth. Imagine him as a tiny hobbit with hairy feet. so cute.

Boardwalk was amazing wasn't it? I felt like crying when they recapped the last season, seeing Jimmy dying all over again. I was so scared for the little dog too, I kept thinking about my dog watching me get beaten up, and what would she do - weirdly enough, I was feeling sorrier for the dog than the man. And Michael Shannon, that scene was sooo awesome. I think he's one of the best, too. Oh and I also loved when Nucky was talking to the "thief", and said "Untie him. But before you do, put a fucking bullet in his head." Seriously the best line in a long time.

    1. I think Johnson may have his big break with Anna Karenina, that movie is a pretty big deal so who knows? Freeman is a brilliant choice for the part, he is so easy to like and charming. But the film looks a bit too kid friendly for my taste.

I always feel sorrier for an animal :) So glad he will be in nice house with kids now ^^ Nucky is really dangerous this season, loved that whole interrogation scene he was so badass! It's so weird seeing Buscemi like this, I always picture all the cute roles he played like the one in The Big Lebowski when I think of him.

    2. I sure hope he does, I've liked him ever since he played John Lennon. I haven't watched the hobbit trailer yet, I have no idea how it looks... but either way, I'll be there if only because of that awesome cast.

It is a change for Buscemi, and such a good one cause he absolutely kicks-ass as Nucky. He was great in The Big Lebowski. The first role of him that always comes to mind is the hobo from Big Daddy. Don't ask me why, it's such a silly role.

    3. The cast is great indeed and I'm curious about that 48 frames per second thing, so I'll probably check out the film in the cinema.

I really love how he finally got a lead in major production, he is always doing supporting or cameos and as enjoyable as those are he is more than capable of being the lead.

  5. Confession: I'm not looking forward to The Hobbit either. Maybe I need to watch The Lord of the Rings movies first? I don't watch a lot of movies, but it's always hilarious to see a good Ron Swanson gif on the Internet.

    1. LOTR was pretty great, but The Hobbit looks like action adventure for kids with a lot of goofiness, I'm really not into that. Plus it kinda pisses me off how they are making 3 movies based on 1 book.

  6. I actually didn't like Kick-Ass either, a little surprised why people loved it. I only want to see Jim Carrey in the sequel. Thanks for the linkage :) Have a great weekend!

  7. I know ... don't you feel so guilty when you laugh during the dog killings in A Fish Called Wanda? I felt the same way, and I've laughed my way through that movie more times than I can count. That half ass quote is great -- and probably true. And by the way, I didn't like Kick Ass either.

  10. The TV channels over here have finally started The Wire season 4 - I've been waiting months for it! So excited.

It has been years since I last saw A Fish Called Wanda - I really need to pay it another visit. Hilarious film! Glad you enjoyed it :D

Bless Gustav! He's a smart cookie. Oh and I can totally relate to the 5:30am dog walking. I did that for 3 weeks while my folks were on holiday. Thankfully, it was summer, so it didn't feel too bad. Am sure you'll be fine!

Deciding to hate a movie that you haven't even seen? Interesting.

You know, I've never figured out whether you hate Kick-Ass because it had Chloe Grace Moretz in it, or if you hate Chloe Grace Moretz because you hated Kick-Ass.

    1. I failt ot see how it's "intersting". It basically has the same cst and the same people behind it. I also hated Vaughn's Layer Cake. So logical thinking leads me to the idea that I will hate Kick Ass 2.

That is a whole lot of assumptions right there. Hate is a strong word. I wouldn't say I hate Moretz, though she was terrible in Dark Shadows and is an awful choice for Carrie. I hate Kick Ass because it's stupid, not funny, boring, irritating and reprehensible. I don't "hate" movies because they have certain actors in them.

      Delete
    2. Sorry. I've yet to read anything other than negative comments in regards to Moretz here, so I assumed, incorrectly I now understand, that you hated her. (Just like I only ever read very positive comments about Theron and Fassbender here, which led me to assume you loved them.)

And yes, I find anyone's decision to hate something that they haven't yet experienced for themselves to be interesting, whether it is a movie, a book, a song, a national park, or whatever. To your great credit, unlike most other people I have encountered who do this, you do actually plan to experience what you feel you will hate. Others like this usually do not even expose themselves to something because they can't imagine ever changing their minds.

And for what it's worth: you're not alone on hating Kick-Ass. Roger Ebert gave it one star and also used the word "reprehensible" and that was because of Moretz' character. Of course, he later gave a glowing review to Hanna which is also about a father teaching his young daughter to be a killing machine, but professional critics are not known for their consistency.

    3. You should read my Let me In review. There is nothing but praise for Moretz there. And if Fassbender or Theron will deliver bad performance, which I highly doubt they ever will, i will write about that.

I don't think it's fair to review wnything without seeing it. But for now, I'm assuimg I won't fall in love in Kick ass 2 :)

I know, it's one of the very few occassions I agree with him. i found the movie reprehensible too, not just because of her charactr. I love Hannah, mostly because it didn't require young woman to merciellesly slaughter people without good reason and throw around offensive swear words. And it was much better movie, in every possible way.

    1. Glad to read this, I mean that film was so stupid and there are bloggers who give it 10/10, I'll never understand that :)

I have no idea, I'm pretty sure it's a recent appearance from when he was promoting Taken 2, maybe Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmel show.
