(62) Tommy Lee Jones is not amused + links

By Sati. Friday, January 18, 2013
  • It's unfair. Men are like fine wine.In RDJ's case extremely fucking fine wine.
  • Me during Anne Hathaway's speeches
  • So Golden Globes brought few changes to my feelings toward certain celebrities. I no longer like Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway. In fact I despise Hathaway so much right now, I'm really close to doing a sacred ritual designed at helping Amy Adams win over her. Good God. I wasn't fond of Anne before The Dark Knight Rises, then I liked her a lot and then the "whore out campaign time" came. Hathaway is walking around every single American talk show talking about how poor she is because she suffered so much during filming of the movie and that she 'lost her identity" because she cut her hair. Never mind she sounds ridiculous and like a poor little rich girl - hair cut short being the worst thing that ever happened to her. She sounds like she feels she is entitled to win that Oscar when the truth be told her work in Les Miserables is probably the most overhyped performance of the year. And her speeches...I think my ears bled. During Critics Choice she made a big deal about them misspelling her name. During Globes when Les Mis won she took the mic form the producers to add few people she forgot. What a bitch! With Chastain it's her ridiculous speeches where she acts as if her Maya is strong, admirable character and one of the first such female characters in Hollywood - I just burst with laughter whenever she says that. And when Affleck won best director..her bitchy, pissed off face because her darling Bigelow didn't win was too much for me. Count your blessings winning for something you don't deserve to win for. Her whole attitude was fitting as she looked like Disney villain during the ceremony.
  • Tommy Lee Jones brought us so much joy. Everyone is familiar with the pissed off look on his face during Kristen Wiig/Will Ferrel presentation but take a look at the screenshot I took right after Clinton presented Lincoln (above). That's hilarious.
  • I also saw Critics Choice Awards ceremony and it was so funny. Jones again - at one point really loud music started playing and he literally took his finger and jammed it into his ear. It's a damn shame they didn't show him during that Judd Apatow's montage filled with puke and other bodily fluids. And carrot hater Phoenix was there too. Do you guys think Harvey Weinstein drugs him before every ceremony, drives him there and then slaps him across the face to wake him up and poor Phoenix finds himself in the middle of the ceremony? I certainly do. Look at his face during both - it's like he is about to cry.
  •  My biggest pleasure during Globes was observing Mel Gibson and Phoenix, whose tables were next to each other. Gibson didn't close his mouth for 3 hours and Phoenix played with cutlery, I think he was doing fork-knife duels.
  • While Chastain and Hathaway have my blessing to leave Hollywood as soon as they win their Oscars, Jen Lawrence is starting to win me over. She was very charming on Letterman this week and she made hilarious mistake while talking about Zero Dark Thirty - she yelled "Yes, catch Obama!" instead of Osama. But she just laughed it off. And she was just adorable backstage on Golden Globes. To sum it up when she won she was genuine, funny and grateful. When Hathaway won she said 'blerg!". Jesus Christ.
  • You know whenever I see Leo DiCaprio's face all of Joe Pesci's rage-filled scenes in Casino go through my mind while Coldplay's Fix You plays in my head.
  • Look how happy Idris is about the prospect of getting a love interest. Adorable!:
  • It was posted on twitter that ALICE IS GOING TO BE IN SEASON 3! Oh God, I hope they will have sex because this is unbearable. It's like Pushing Daisies all over again, except it's worse because you just know that when Luther and Alice finally do it half of England is going to explode.
  • Les Miserables was so bad. I had to drink half of bottle of wine to get through that. Poor Jackman carried that shit. Silver Linings Playbook on the other hand was fantastic. I also saw The Impossible and wept for about 80% of that movie. The Sessions was very charming and I don't understand how Hunt has a nomination while Hawkes was snubbed.
  •  Emma Stone has signed on to star in Guillermo Del Toro's gothic ghost movie Crimson Peak. This is beyond awesome.
  • Let's hope Bates Motel is at least half as good as the posters promoting it:
  • The Two Towers is on TV tonight. Of course I'm going to watch it.
  • I still haven't seen new episodes of Parks and Rec, American Horror Story (and given how I promised a big recap tomorrow I better do that soon) and The Big Bang Theory. But I did start watching Archer and it's really funny, quite possibly the most hilarious animated series on TV right now.
  • Lee Pace wasn't there on Golden Globes. You know how I know? Because none of the 15 fan blogs dedicated to him I follow on tumblr poster any new pics of him. But this post needs Lee so here is my favorite moment from Pushing Daisies, with the Pie Maker trying to chase the squirrel away because if she won't run she'll die:

    • No wonder my favorite review of Lincoln was written by my favorite movie blogger. m.brown wrote another masterpiece and even included awesome shout out to my beloved Lee Pace.

I maintain this is the funniest shit in Tarantino's films, right after the kangaroo.

RDJ is like the best wine ever.
Yes Hathaway is starting to annoy me as well, which is sad because I really like her. Glad to see you warming up to Lawrence. I love her so much. She has like no mind filter. Her speech will be so much fun if she wins (my favouritest Wallis's will be the bestest though- IPhone speech FTW!)

I liked Les Mis a lot actually. Going to see it in the theatre again, but I admit this will be done mostly to poke fun at Russel Crowe's "singing" :P

I don't understand the 3rd Bates Motel poster. I stared at it for ages.

      1. Yeah that Iphone thing was cute! I loved how she hugged the director when she won. Lawrence would be such more deserved win than Chastain.

I saw that gif of Crowe where they made fun of him saying his name over and over again in Les Mis :) I thought he was good...when he wasn't singing.

        I don't either, but it's pretty :)

        Ned, hell yeah! <333

      3. Really? Woah. Maybe mama Bates has a pot tree and gets high or something :P Can't wait to see Farmiga in this.

    2. Speeches are my least favorite part of awards season. While I think Hathaway's wins are deserved, she is becoming very annoying.

I did the same the thing during The Impossible. Of course, it's hard not to.

      Thanks for the link! :)

      1. I'm really close to muting her whenever she talks during those ceremonies.

It was such a moving film, Jesus when the kids were reunited I completely lost it.

        You're welcome!

    4. I honestly don't even know why Phoenix shows up to these things. I think he'd get more enjoyment out of staring out a wall at home.

God, I hope Bates Motel is good as well.

Thanks so much for the link! No, no Hathaway. No.

      1. I think the studio forced him or something, I don't think he was there because he wanted to :/ Maybe they at least paid him for that?:P

You're welcome! Exactly - no Hathaway.

    5. I can understand your hatred a little bit on Hathaway but I she was the best performance this year and anything she can do to promote that. i say go for it. As for Miss Chastain. That lady has been phenomenal in every role I have seen her in, and deserves all the awards she is getting although I'm not sure if she deserves it for Zero Dark 30. Jen Lawrence is really good in Silver Linings Playbook. She is my pick for best actress

      1. I think performances should speak for themselves - you don't see any other actresses from her category doing the crap she does. I don't believe I saw Adams in a single interview this Oscar season.

I agree, Jen is so much better than Chastain.

        Delete
      2. And that's why Miss Adams won't win. I hate to say it, but in this business. The best performance alone does not get you an award. You need to market and sell yourself and your performance. Hathaway is doing that and it will pay off for her in the end

      3. Hopefully it will also pay off with something that occasionally happens to winners - backlash.

    6. Your Links post is just so brilliant Sati, LOVE it!! Much obliged for the linky dinky... glad we share a love for O'Dowd and Lee Pace of course. He was on my list from like 3 years ago and STILL he's not getting more roles!! Seriously Hollywood!!

Anyhoo, man that RDJ... unfair is right. He just gets better and better with age, I mean come on! His hair is to-die-for! And TLJ, I love that guy, grumpy or not :D

Sheesh, what's up with Anne. I mean, she 'lost her identity" because she cut her hair??! Heh, I have cropped hair (kind of like yours, though not as cute) and I always tell my stylist to cut MORE. So if she's got issues just 'cause she has short hair, well then she's got even BIGGER issues to worry about.

Really when he was in his 20s he was cute but now? HOLY HELL!

I read she is all paranoid and in hysterics about it, because she never had hair this short. It's not like someone forced her to do it, honestly the more I hear her talk the more I dislike her.

    7. I love that scene in Inglorious Basterds. Brad Pitt's accent was the best. I like Anne Hathaway, she was great in Les Mis, but it has to be the most blantant "for your consideration" performance I have ever seen. With all of the trailers centered around her singing, it's like they knew right away and wanted to make sure she got noticed. It just screams "me me me!" Her speech was right up there with Claire Dane's being cringe-worthy. I'm enjoying Jennifer's speeches though. I used to think she was just out there, now I think she's pretty hilarious.

      1. He was so funny there ^^ I hope he will work with Tarantino again.

I think all this campaigning is unnecessary now, it's not like people need to be reminded on daily basis about her and her performance. And her cutting in to speak when the producer was the one accepting the award was beyond obnoxious - it's like she think she is the star of the movie and the most important thing about when she was in the film for what? 15 minutes?

        Delete
    8. Thank you for the link, Sati :)

Silver Linings is definitely a treat, I do love Lawrence there. She is adorable for being herself, really. I was not aware that Hathaway did so much campaigning, didn't watch much US talk shows. I think perhaps she and Chastain caught the 'pressure' of being a Hollywood A class. I really hope Chastain would be as modest as her before.

      1. You're welcome!

Hathaway is saying all kinds of silly things every day - she keeps talking about how emotional everyone were on the set and hugged her because she was so heartbreaking etc. I think the amount of her interviews is 5x bigger than all of the others nominated combined.

Chastain talking shit about Hollywood on stage after she was there for 5 minutes is ridiculous.

    9. While I am a big Anne Hathaway fan, I really hope winning these awards don't go to her head. She needs to be brought down back to earth.

And let's not forget that winning the Oscar... doesn't really do much for people's career. Take Cuba Gooding Jr. for example.

    10. I've never been a huge Anne Hathaway fan, but I had to admit she was phenomenal in Les Miz. But man oh man, she's getting pretty pretentious on the awards circuit.

Jennifer Lawrence, on the other hand, is totally winning me over. I can't get enough of her quote-gifs. She got in hot water for awkwardly quoting a movie that people didn't get (when they thought she was insulting Meryl) and I was like "I HAVE TOTALLY BEEN THERE JEN."

      ReplyDelete
      Replies
      1. That whole quote business was ridiculous. I mean even if it wasn't a quote "I beat Meryl!" is probably the first thing that a person who won with her would think, since Meryl has so many nominations and awards it's clearly a joke and not an insult. Really the controversy over certain things these days just baffles me.

    12. Haha I love all your analysis on speeches, facial expressions etc from the awards ceremonies! I'm not a big Hathaway fan either, the blergh statement was weird. I don't hate her though. Chastain is eh, although we disagree because I love ZD30 and her in it :D As for Lawrence, she's moving up my rankings too!

Stupid question here, what's the Kangaroo reference from QT? Pulp Fiction? (Ahhh, I'm such a poor movie person for not knowing this :P )

      1. Oh, the kangaroo thing was when Butch asked Fabienne to take the watch his dad gave him which he left on the kangaroo on the bed side table.

She forgot and then there is this hilarious moment when he is driving the car and yells "So many things she could have fucking forgot she forgot the fucking watch! I told her - bedside table, on the kangaroo! Said the words - don't forget my father's watch!!!" :)

    14. Your rants are really funny.

I loved Les Misérables. However I wasn’t a fan of The Hath's rendition of I dream a Dream where she was sobbing uncontrollably throughout the whole thing. I’ve decided to bring an MP3 player with me the next time I watch the movie and play Susan Boyle’s version the second she starts to sing. Her performance had an emotional component, yes. But I'm getting tired of everyone talking about HER Oscar as if she has already been pre-ordained to win. If Sally Field, Helen Hunt, Amy Adams or Jacki Weaver were to win the award, I wouldn't be too upset.

      1. I really don't understand the love for her performance - Fantine's character is not established enough to move me at all during this movie and the way the scene was handled only took away the impact for me. Her singing wasn't even this good. Amy Adams, that is someone overdue for Oscar, not Anne.

I have to say I'm neither here nor there about Chastain (haven't seen Zero Dark Thirty yet, though I've always been very 'ehh' about it) but I do like Hathaway. I like what she's said about women's rights (though I hadn't actually heard the thing about the hair before, so that made me raise an eyebrow!)

Wouldn't you be crushed though if your man Elba settles down? :o

You're right, that may be the funniest moment in any Tarantino movie. I'd need to really think it out, but thats some funny stuff.

Archer IS the funniest animated thing on TV and is in the running for funniest, period. :D

Seriously, it's a laugh riot this year. TJL and Phoenix's misery is just too much.

Nah, as long as it's not Anna Friel. She is doing a movie with him now and she already did Pushing Daisies with Lee Pace. That is too much of awesome for one person. I have fucking nothing.

Vera Farmiga is in Bates Motel, so that's something :)

    18. You know, your weekly link post is the reason why I open my Google Reader- I love it.
I didn't see neither Les Mis or Zero Dark Thirty (seeing them both tomorrow hopefully), but I am starting to agree on the hate for the two ladies, who I previously loved, too. I didn't catch Anne's speech, but I did watch the first minute of Chastain's and I wanted to punch her in the face: "I have worked so hard for this, I have struggled so many years"- bitch, you're what...30? that is not struggling. Relax and cut the bullshit! It just made me mad! Oh, and I didn't see the bitchy face at Affleck's win (who was a sweetheart and had a nice speech)- now I dislike her even more!
Suits is back on :D do you watch Suits? oh man.....Harvey Specter in a suit is just...perfection! Seriously, if you haven't...please do! Oh, and I have a feeling you will love Donna, his secretary, too!

I saw only two episodes :( Too little time to catch up at the moment :(

    19. Fantastic screen shots. I became a huge Lawrence fan after I first saw her in that breathtaking red gown at the Oscars 2010 when she was nominated for Winters Bone. Had absolutely no idea who the hell she was, but I've loved her ever since. She's so young, and if you compare her to other actors in her age bracket, she's so much more likeable and enjoyable to watch in interviews and onscreen. I'm rooting for her.

Thanks for the link :) and I died laughing at the Inglorious Basterds gif XD
