(124) The foxes of Thrones + links

By Sati. Friday, March 28, 2014
  • There is so many interviews with Thrones cast members showing up. Pedro clearly has a gift for explaining stuff.
  • Sophie Turner's concern for Jack Gleeson is simply adorable and very touching.
  • I have so much new appreciation for various stuff while rewatching the show and re-reading Storm of Swords. How about Noah Taylor in that bear pit scene? -You gave her a wooden sword?! - We've only got one bear. And how about that sweet scene where Margaery gives Sansa advice regarding her marriage to Tyrion? Bronn's small nod of respect while Sansa walks down the aisle? Or Jorah's sad expression where after Dracarys Daenerys doesn't even look at him and just passes him as she walks over to Unsullied?
  • And also - Stannis. I just hope they won't turn the awesome thing he does this upcoming season into some sort villainous act. It's time to get the character right, people. This is the point in the books I started to understand why book readers love him so much. The show made some improvements, though. That scene with Shireen was so sweet and show Stannis, unlike book Stannis, smiles which is SUCH a welcomed change.
  • British silver foxes' game is seriously fucking strong in this one, y'all.
  • Yeah, sir, that ain't weird. Jorah is supposed to be plain - ladies almost faint whenever Iain Glen is on screen. God forbid he opens his mouth and speaks. It poses actual problems when I read the books - I couldn't understand Daenerys repeatedly turning Jorah down. I hear talk of ladies swooning whenever Roose Bolton is on screen. We have an army of Charles Dance's fangirls. And to play Stannis who is uncharismatic in the books they got Stephen Dillane. Let me use a metaphor here - watching this show is like seeing the book characters after many, many drinks. They are suddenly freaking hot.
  • Oh Good God in heaven - this McConaughey interview is so great.
  • Chris Nolan said he wanted 'an everyman' that's why he got Matt to play the lead in Interstellar. He is an everyman? Where are those men, Chris? WHERE?
  • Tom Hiddleston was there for Jessica Chastain's birthday party! This is only reminding me that Crimson Peak is closer and closer.
  • HBO attempted to make the next Emmy ceremony Sophie's Choice for me. True Detective was submitted in Drama series category, where Thrones is. 1. Why are those bitches piling up the competition for their own most successful show? 2. Thank God everyone in Thrones is supporting 3. Not that I should care after last year's Fairley/Waldau snub 4. Not that anything or anyone beats Thrones, since Deadwood is over 5. Can Matthew and Cranston just split that fucking award in half and share?
  • Remember that Cinderella movie where Blanchett is playing evil stepmother? More importantly than this, THE KING IN THE NORTH  Richard Madden plays Prince Charming. Here is the description of the first trailer.
  • Jimmy Fallon did something fun on his show - it involved the always delightful Kevin Bacon reprising his Footloose dance
  • J.Law 2.0 continues:
  • I'd comment but I'll just use these:
  •  While we are at it, I saw Nymphomaniac, part 1 (here's my short and accurate review). The film was boring, unpleasant and long and the only shocking thing about it was that Thrones has more sex scenes than this movie. Thrones however (in most cases, sadly) has far less shots of dicks. I'm with m.brown on this one - couldn't the dicks be cheerful? They were just sad and depressing.
  • Seriously, a freaking horror show, ladies.
  • So Prometheus sequel. Just when you think they can't possibly find someone worse than Lindelof to write this, they got the dude who wrote The Green Lantern. I'll still going to watch it, though. I love Alien franchise and I'm one of the very few people who actually greatly enjoyed Prometheus.
  • Now THAT is Scarlet Witch.
  • I'm not that into Marvel movies but Elizabeth Olsen and the inclusion of that character are enough to get me excited for Avengers 2.
  • Rumour has it they want to reboot Indiana Jones with Bradley Cooper in the lead role. Are we really surprised that nothing is sacred when they are making Rosemary's Baby miniseries?
  • Speaking of which, as bad as the first poster for that is, nothing beats the awfulness of the new poster for X: Men Days of the Future Past. But I've gotta admit - imagining those things on the left are the army of Iron Men flying over to crap on Lawrence's head is very amusing.
  • Nikhat saw Blue Velvet for the very first time while Elina enjoyed the first time viewing of Reservoir Dogs
  • Alex lists 10 movie passion projects
  • m.brown reviews American Hustle
  • Brittani reviews Oldboy remake
  • arap.virtuoso reviews Captain America - The Winter Soldier

    1. That X-Men poster is horrendous. I prefer the two-faced ones over that.

I can't wait to see what Elizabeth Olsen does with the character. She looks great in the photos.

      1. It's really awful, isn't it? I'm not sure why they can't come up with decent posters for blockbusters these days.

Same here! She is such a wonderful choice for the part.

      2. I am usually not judgemental when it comes to posters, but the one from X-Men looks as if it is about a low-budgeted, retard-oriemted movie. Really, it looks as if it is from the 80's.

You used Cersei's awesome face expression 'Oh my godness, not again'! Well used!

      3. Half of my reaction gifs are Cersei's :)

    2. Hiddles is cuter.

I'm going to see both parts of the truncated version of Nymphomaniac next month. I have seen Shia's... it's ugly and... smaller than mine.

Kevin Bacon doing Footloose on the Tonight Show ruled!

Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch... SOLD!!!!

The Prometheus sequel to be written by the asswipe who did Green Lantern? No thanks.

      1. I know, it's really strange how anyone hires the guy who wrote this piece of shit let alone for something that's going to cost so much money :/

    3. Matthew McConaughey is an everyman - more like what every man aspires to be like!

Scarlett Witch looks awesome here!! Hopefully her role in the movie will be big. There were rumors early on that Saoirse Ronan was set to play her, and that would have been great. But Elizabeth Olsen is a fantastic choice as well!

      Thanks for the link.

      1. Yep! :)

I like Olsen more than Ronan, she just strikes me more as a woman, a badass woman. Saoirse is someone I keep seeing as little girl.

    4. Thanks for the link!! I squealed at the Hiddles gif, he is more adorable, no doubt. I can't believe Thrones is so close. I keep rewatching the trailers, they are so cool!!

    5. Sati, thanks for the great post. So much to comment on here. As much as I hate Roose Bolton and Tywin Lannister, I enjoy watching Charles Dance and Michael McElhatten (I am sure I butchered the spelling here) strut their evil stuff. And Iain Glen is a very gorgeous man, his voice is like melted chocolate. It makes show Dany looks stupid to want Daario over him. I'd still take him over new Daario, by the way. I do hope Stannis is handled better this season although it worried me that Carice Van Houten said team Dragonstone doesn't have a lot of screen time this season, I hope she just was being misleading.
I am really excited for Cinderella not only for my man candy, Richard Madden, but for the way Blanchett is described in that trailer. Wearing all black with a cat on a leash-I need this movie in my life now!

      1. I'm sure they don't have much screentime comparing to others :( My only hope is that the fans complaining and giving them shit, which their deserve, are finally going to be enough for them and they give Stannis more time. It's a serious crime to have Stephen Dillane on the show and not giving him much to do - the scenes he had last season were great, except for finale scene in which Stannis listens to Melisandre - her words should have been spoken by Daavos instead and Stannis should follow his advice, not being a whipped dude who does what red woman says.

Blanchett sounds terrific! I wish the main girl and Graigner switched roles, though.

    6. Wow that's a really, really bad poster. But I like the b&w faces with red and blue x's. I'm bookmarking the McConaughey interview, looks interesting!

haha that Office gif is accurate, and I see that once again Lars Von Trier has managed to get completely opposite responses... either way I am in no hurry to watch nymphomaniac.

Oh Iain Glen, I wonder how that old lady had the strength to ask him that.

      1. It honestly was such a bland movie - which is the worst kind of movie. Nothing in it particularly interested me. The only really good thing was Uma Thruman's scene.

I'd freaking die if he said anything to me, especially Khaleesi.

        Delete
    7. I would die if Iain Glen looked at me and said "Khaleesi." That's so true about the GoT men. I hate myself for thinking the guy that plays Roose Bolton is hot.

I was kind of hoping True Detective would be submitted in the mini series category like AHS is. I don't want it going up against Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones!

I think Sophie Turner gives the best answers when it comes to GoT questions. Her advice to Sansa is "stay away from creepy old men."

      Thanks for the link!

      1. Yep, same here! :) You're not the only one, there is ladies fandom for each and every one of them, my favorite has gotta be the joined Davos/Stanis Brokeback fandom :P

I honestly don't know what the hell is HBO doing.

Sophie is so cool but it's a bit disturbing how she always laughs and smiles, even when talking about RW in interviews :)

        You're welcome!

      2. As for Sophie's advice to her character, I believe back in episode 1 of season 3 when she was playing a game with Shae where they were supposed to make up stories about the leaving ships, Shae told her that she knew where they were going, but Sansa replied that the truth is always either terrible or boring. And then comes Littlefinger offering her to leave with him, because he is 'concerned' about her, and if she left King's Landing everything would be like a tale. Please tell me with a simple Yes/No answer if whether or not this is relevant. If I it a 'yes', then this show rocks it!

        Delete
      3. Is Littlefinger's interest in Sansa relevant? Oh, yes, very much so!

    8. I want that Woodley creature to go far far away...she's not even a good JLaw knockoff, and as we all know, knockoffs are far more annoying than the real thing.

And that Rosemary mini-series will be the untimely death of Saldana and really, my eyes as well.

      1. Saldana was doing pretty well, this is just an awful career choice. I wonder what will be worse - her wig or the overall quality of the series.

    9. Thanks for making these posts, 'cause I always find out something interesting. Last week was the great Alex Withrow's piece on Shame, so thanks sharing all this great stuff!

I loved that Noah Taylor's scene on GoT. Have you seen Max? He was amazing there. That Iain Glen experience at the airport was so funny. Turner's words about Gleeson were lovely. He's a great actor indeed.

I've only seen gifs of that Q&A with McConaughey so I'm definitely gonna watch the video now. Loved the "everyman" thing, I wonder the same, where are they haha And I didn't have any idea about Crimson Peak. I've just found out that Chastain and Hiddleston are doing that, so I'd definitely watch it 'cause I really like them both.

About the Emmys, I feel pretty much the same. But, as much as I love Cranston, he already won it, and Rust Cohle was so so great that I really want Matthew to win. The Fairley and Waldau snub… I thought they went nuts with that too.

I also watched Nymphomaniac vol. 1 this week. I think von Trier has some serious issues, but I really appreciate some of his films. But this one was one of the lowest.

I also liked Prometheus, I don't know why there was so much hate towards it. And I'm big fan of the Alien franchise too, but I'm afraid of the sequel if that guy is writing it…

The Bradley Cooper-Indiana Jones and Rosemary's Baby thing, couldn't agree more! And the thing you said about Lawrence on the poster and Iron Man, LOL. The X-Men poster really sucks… and what is that, is Lawrence gonna be the main star of this? The only thing I cared about this was McAvoy / Fassbender and McKellen / Stewart but I think it seems like it's gonna be all about her and Wolverine.

Hiddleston vs the puppy, priceless. And the George RR Martin gif, OMG haha

      1. Glad you like RF series! :)

I haven't seen Taylor in much apart from GoT - I know him from many quirky supporting roles in several films I've seen, he is always so memorable.

Crimson Peak will probably be the hottest movie in quite some time - it's seriously like something from dark dreams of every Hiddleston's fangirl.

I think this dude is only rewriting the original script so my hope is that he won't change to much, because whoever wrote the first draft must be better than him.

I think this poster is some false advertising, the film seems like a huge mess to me anyways, so I'm probably gonna watch it on DVD when I'm really, really bored :)

    10. Oh my god, I'm hoping that GRRM does actually do a Beyonce and blast everybody's expectations away. The wait is almost painful for new Thrones, not long to go now (for the show at least)! I'm a Stannis fan as well so I'm really anxious to see what they'll do with his storyline. Hopefully they won't butcher it as usual.

As a big fan of Rosemary's Baby I'm quite annoyed that it's being adapting into a miniseries. Polanski's film is already about 98% faithful to the book so we're not missing out on anything by just having the film version. I wonder if it'll include gratuitous smartphone usage and product placement. Seems like a bit of a cash cow situation since people will surely be intrigued enough to watch it.

      1. I just want to see him triumph :) I can put up with a lot of shit, but they better make me happy with his participation in episode 9 this year.

Oh, I didn't even think of product placement but I bet this is gonna happen :/ Honestly some films should be left alone - why on Earth do another version of something that is pretty much perfect?

Bradley Cooper's career will surely go down the tubes if he took on the Indy mantle! And yeah, X: Men Days of the Future Past should win a Razzie for movie posters if there ever was one!

      2. Mwahahaha I forgot he's voicing a darn Racoon in 'Guardian of Galaxy.' I'm not looking fwd to that at all. No idea what that Serena one is about but yeah, Cooper better be careful he might end up being the next Ryan Reynolds!!

      3. I think this can either be really mindless fun or absolute disaster, I like Chris Pratt so I'm really hoping the film won't suck too much :)

    15. Yeah Sati, I'm really worried about the 'Prometheus' sequel. Lindelof was bad enough. I really enjoyed 'Prometheus,' mainly for the work the previous writer put into it. I'm guessing 'Promethesus' was not as confusing before the Lindelof rewrite. Now they've hired the 'Green Lantern' writer. Things are not looking good.

You know when I first saw the Scarlet Witch's new look was just a red jacket I was worried, but Elizabeth Olson is rocking it. That said Olson is a really good actress. So I'm sure that helps.

Oh JLaw 2, yeah. I was not impressed with 'Divergent.' Not at all. She was kinda dishwater dull.

    16. Hahahhaha @ "watching this show is like seeing the book characters after many, many drinks"

That is so true. Especially Brienne, who is nowhere near the hideous creature described in the book. Also, I'm listening to the audio books so the voices he uses throw me off too. Like the voice for Gendry is really gruff and ugly sounding! It makes the whole context between Arya & him entirely different than the show.
