(135) GoT fires burn low + links

By Sati. Friday, June 13, 2014
  • God damn it, I was not supposed to care about Jon and Ygritte :/
  • I think Jon's inner koala died when he saw that arrow shoot her. Also Rose Leslie - that moment she was looking at him and from anger went to smiling but still fighting with her own self because he left her but how can you not smile at this stupid puppy face - that was amazing acting. I rarely mention that but Ygritte was such a great character
  •  Last episode is now the only Game of Thrones episode I didn't rewatch.
  • Ending the battle ep 2/3 into the battle. Especially when they could easily make this episode the one that's over an hour long by moving that scene from finale.
  • By now I'm sure tumblr has spoiled the last 1/3 for you. If it did I'm so mad because I was doing so much to keep people for finding out. The previously on clip they'll show before the episode 10 is online and it blatantly reminds you of the thing I was hoping they were clever enough to try and make the audience forget. I'm just so disgusted by their overwhelming bias.
  • It actually comes to my 2 most anticipated moments in one ep. But who knows if they even show what is happening explicitly in one moment and even include the other?
  • I've been dealing with a lot of 'don't get excited you may be disappointed' comments.. Are people under impression that the excitement is something one can control? It's like sneezing. If you like something, if you are a fan, it's natural to get excited. Especially when you read the books and you inevitably imagine the scenes. I always loved that I can get passionate about things. I kinda feel bad for those who can't.
  • But lately it's not been as much fun as it used to be with the show. If the epilogue of book 3 is not on the show this year,  I will now only watch it for Stannis and Cersei. I'm done fangirling over this show if that happens. I'm so disenchanted with the way this season is structured - if the payoff is not this year...even if they include that somewhere down the road, I'm sick of waiting. I've been frustrated as a book reader, repulsed by their bias towards certain characters and more than anything just annoyed because they were handed a wonderful material and they really approached it in a very disappointing way. My enthusiasm has been burning out because the things I was really hoping to see are either disappointing or not in the show at all (possibly). It all HANGS on one scene now. I'm either in completely or I'm out apart from these 2 characters. And if I'm in, I'm gonna be in like never before. It's my favorite scene we're talking about here.
  • If my tweets are happy expect what may be my final recap of the show on Tuesday. If they're 'I don't care anymore' expect it on Thursday.
  • It's now been 5 weeks since I saw new Stannis scene. That's another thing - having Dillane there and showing him for 10 minutes a season is just awful. I actually find it very disrespectful to a wonderful actor when he is not given scenes while Emilia Clarke wanders around and German porn actress gets to show off  their atrocious acting for 3 seasons now.
  • There wasn't supposed to be RF today but I was typing for 8h today and I figured what the hell. I cannot feel my fingers anyways. You know that The Office scene where Idris Elba who plays the boss says to John Krasinski 'give me a rundown' and then Jim is like 'sure' and then he says to camera 'what the hell is a run down?'. Yeah, that's my job every single day. With a shit load of running through the corridors of a courthouse with several pounds of legal documents and court cases in my tiny arms.
  • And then GoT fucks me over for a good start of the week. No more.
  •  Sorry for those sour grapes in RF today, guys.
  • I didn't have the time to see any new films lately, nor have I written anything in my drafts for reviews.  There's gonna be a lot of Soundtrack Wednesday posts in the future because they are fastest to make and between working 8h and studying 4h a day all I want at the end of the day is sit down and watch The Thick of It over and over again.
  • I do have actual news for you today and that is that Sarah Paulson revealed her character in American Horror Story: Freakshow and it's apparently a woman with two heads. I guess we will be seeing only a side of Paulson's face a lot this season as this is gonna be some expensive CGI to pull off, at least for the show's budget which I imagine is not very big.
  • What else, what else...well I have 4 days off work next week so I'm gonna try to write something for you guys, those of you who don't watch GoT may curse that time of the year my blog is mostly that but let me tell you most of the movies I've seen lately were so mediocre I don't even feel like reviewing them and with GoT I at least always have something to say. 1. Yay for the new Visual Parallels! Looking forward to it.

Please do not give up on recaping GoT, I really enjoy your recaps and I'm sure many other readers of your blog share my enthusiasm for them. :)

I try not to think too much about THAT scene because I'm affraid I might lose it. I need to see it so badly, I miss that person so much on the show. I actually stopped caring for anthing else in the upcoming episode because this is the only thing I'm not 100% sure will appear.

      1. Oh yeah people really like my recaps and I appreciate that a lot but honestly it's not fun anymore to write them when they keep fucking me over. I have 3 favorite characters - Cat, Stannis and Cersei. And 2 of those have been just treated atrociously lately - I liked Stannis scenes this season but it was because I thought they are being secretive on purpose - but now they show it in recap. So all this time we could be getting plenty of his scenes. It's fairly evident that 'D&D hate Stannis' thing is true.

If LS is in, I'm gonna be back recaping next season, but if she is not, I'm just so sick of waiting for the good stuff which these idiots may or may not have cut from the show

      2. I kinda feel the same way about LS, if she's not in tomorrow a huge part of my exctiement for the show will die screaming.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do hate Stannis, but it's such a nonsense for a writer to feel such thing to a certain charater. The show is suppose to entertain all fans, not just Dany and Tyrion's fandom.
Someone should beat the crap out of those guys.

      3. It's just such a wonderful plot twist - it's the best in the series and one of the best I've ever witnessed. The ending to last ep was a mistake but if she is not an ending to ep.10 this is a catastrophe.

I honestly think they only adapt the show for themselves and say 'fuck them' when it comes to fans' opinion. It's blatant - Stannis has a huge fan following and they treat him like shit in terms of screentime.

    2. First off, American Horror Story: Freakshow... what a fuckin' great name. And second, Paulson with two heads.. oh yeah, I'm there. She's the best.

      Thanks for the link!

      1. I'm really hoping this season is gonna be at least a bit more consistent than the last. There is nothing wrong with camp but Coven was all over the place.

        You're welcome! :)

    3. That Martin gif is what every writer truly deep down hopes will happen when their stuff is adapted. "Just follow what I've written, everything is fucking laid out for you."

Haven't seen the previous seasons of AHS but I'm really excited for Freakshow. I'm a bit disappointed that Paulson will be a two-headed lady. No doubt that she'll make the character interesting but I was sorta hoping for something else. Wait and see, I guess!

Fandom and excitement is so much like sneezing. I relate so much. As much as I didn't want to get excited for Fault in Our Stars, it was pretty much impossible. I had a lot of doubts about the movie, wasn't obsessive about the book, etc. and it was still hard to not get excited about something that I've invested time and energy into, and hoping it pays off.

Thank you for the link! I hope you keep doing RF. It's a shame that blogging is so slow these days and getting comments. I didn't get much on mine but it was fun to chat with people! :/

      1. Also it comes off as so freaking arrogant when the show runners just decide 'we know how to make it better' when in fact some of their ideas are fucking moronic.

I'm actually fairly excited about this season, even if Coven disappointed me a bit. I love Circus stuff. Carnivale was such a wonderful show and the idea of making freakshow horror series is just fascinating.

Exactly. It's involuntarily. I think people who say 'don't get so excited' have never actually felt excitement in their life.

You're welcome! I will certainly keep doing RF, just not sure if every week. It's not so much about comments now, as it is for life being so busy at the moment.

      2. Absolutely - it's one of the bigger problems I have with the Harry Potter films. They're situations and character development that was re-arranged or cut out for other original scenes which just didn't belong.

I might go on a circus research binge before the new season. Reading your Coven reviews here and there, I tried watching it a few times but didn't seem to live up to what I expected. Carnivale is such an underrated show.

Happy to hear that RF will keep running! Try to take a breather during your busy-ass schooling and job, especially when GoT ends. :)

      3. I never read the books so I enjoyed the movies but I imagine they cut a lot of stuff from there.

Carnivale is wonderful and so creepy. Coven was fun but it was all over the place and it was very silly at times, gigantic plot holes too and that's just lazy writing.

    4. I couldn't agree more about Rose Leslie's performance. That was easily my favourite scene in the episode. Everything from Jon's helpless, reckless smile, to Ygritte being slightly taken aback by his response to yes that absolutely gorgeous slow motion worked in. Perfect. I'm bracing myself for the serious GoT withdrawal symptoms Sati. Can't believe that GoT is nearly up for the year!

      1. She was just wonderful, yet we were given so many scenes of Emilia's atrocious acting this season instead of spending time with people who will be gone soon. Awful planning.

I'm honestly glad. All these speculation and disappointment is exhausting.

    6. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the big reveal. I'm also just saying that to make myself feel better. lol

But in all seriousness, I think we'll get it. They'd be stupid not to include it.

I agree that it IS better to be excited about something. Being passionate about something is a good thing.

Thanks for the link to my hateful post. lol :) You're the best.

      1. I'm scared it wont even be in. The Children track really sounds like something they would use during end credits and it sounds like Bran scene. Are they really insane enough to end the episode on storyline very few people actually give a fuck about?

        I think they may be.

You're welcome! This post is golden and people really should mind their own business. Everyone is free to watch whatever the fuck they want and it's their choice how they choose to watch it.

    7. Hi Sati, thanks for the link love! I'm enjoying the GoT season 4 soundtrack you put up on this page, thanks for having 'em here.

Boy the scenes you put up in the gifs look heartbreaking and I don't even know who those people are! Bummer about Dillane being so underutilized this season. That is so frustrating to see a wonderfully talented actor losing screen time to lesser actors. I totally get how you feel, girl!

Looking forward to your next Visual Parallel btw!

      1. You're welcome! It's really great, isn't it? Ramin does an amazing job on the show.

It is so awful, especially that in addition to him being an incredible actor his character is very important and he is barely featured on the show while some lesser characters are featured for whatever reasons all the time.

        Hope you'll like it! :)

    8. I felt like Sarah Paulson was actually the reason I watched AHS last year. I really like her. I'm looking fwd to her next season.

I'm seriously ticked off about the lack of Stannis this year. I'm mean seriously! We need some new show runners!

      1. I kept watching for her, Angela Bassett and Lange. I think they are all returning this season so I'm quite excited about that.

Grey Worm apparently had more screentime than our Mannis. What even?!

    9. American Horror Story's budget should be bigger next season as Coven really made it a lot more popular. Although it was a mess, ratings went up by 50% or even more.
Yep, I do know that Stannis is supposed to push the Wildlings back in their caves, but I'm still just as excited as before.
If that Lady Stoneheart isn't in the finale and everyone is going nuts about it I am seriously going to google it. I just can't ignore that long. Should that happen, may the fans show no mercy on D&D.
Even if you stop reviewing GoT which was the reason for me to find your blog, I'll still be checking it, like, almost every day.

      1. Really? Well that's good news, they are going to need a budget increase for the make up and CGI with all that freaky stuff.

Really they just screwed everything up so much. It's such a wonderful triumph, something like the ending of Helm's Deep and they moved it to another episode. Insane.

That's my fear. It's a miracle some haven't be spoiled yet. For them to delay her would case an outrage among book readers and non book readers would find out.It would be a disaster.

Thank you so much, I love your comments! If I decide not to recaps next year there still will be some sort of quick roundup of thought in Rambling Friday for each episode :)

      2. Well, not 50%, a bit lower than that (about 30%). But the season finale ended with almost 2x more viewers. I don't know why, but I always check the ratings on the shows I watch. Okay, enough said about ratings.
I just started reading your tweets and now that I think about it Grey Worm really did have more screen time than Stannis. And they took his moment away, show it to us in the finale where I won't remember the despair of the men of the Nighs's Watch. Maybe they thought because of last year's complaints about an anti-climatic finale they decided that this year they make it seem like one. Still, a very bad choice on their part.

        Delete
      3. Considering what is in finale they would have plenty of scenes to make this episode wonderful - they really made a terrible decision, that one scene would be enough to make ep.9 triumphant and memorable and one of the best endings, but in finale the scene will be lost among the shitload of plot twists that are coming tonight, that if they actually included the best ones and I no longer know what these people are thinking.

    10. I've really enjoyed this season of GoT but I can understand why devoted book readers must be frustrated with some of the things that are being left out. I've started reading the books now that my school work is pretty much done but I don't know if I'll be able to catch up before season 5 (it seems unlikely considering how long each book is!)
I hope the season finale pleases you though!

I'm looking forward to your Visual Parallels post too - they're so clever and interesting :)

      1. Thank you! VP should be posted sometime next week.

Reading the books is such a road to disappointment, I think they've changed around 50% of the book this year and sometimes for really no reason at all.

As a non-book reader, I'm really enjoying this season of Thrones, but it's a shame that you feel it's going so off-track. It must be difficult to adapt such massive books to the screen but it must be frustrating.

      1. Hope you'll like them, they should be posted next week.

The thing is it's like they are insistent on making changes to things that don't need to be changed. It's like they are deliberately changing things to piss off book readers.

    14. Oh, The Thick of It! I was going to start watching that ages ago. Once I finish posting all of my CinSpecs in a few months I need to dig into more TV shows.
