(163) Merry Christmas! + links

By Sati. Friday, December 26, 2014

  • Oh, would you look at that!
  • That is a photo of Mark for Variety's Oscar contenders series. So gorgeous!
  • Oh my good God.
  •  I rewatched Blindness. That is such a disgusting, offensive movie. That whole thing where bunch of women is getting raped because Julianne Moore won't stab a guy? Was she retarded? I bet this is Lars von Trier's favorite film - sexism, feces and ugliness everywhere. Since Mark was in that it was like looking at a flower in the middle of a dump. Thank God he was at least naked in that. Everything else sucked.
  • We have that roundtable at last!!!!! Here's the clip featuring that Fincher story:
  • So how is everyone's Christmas?
  • I ate Christmas food with my bare hands like an animal. Hey, I have two weeks off work. It's just eating, sleeping and watching a lot of movies. Oh God I hope when I'm on my vacation the place where I work burns down. I fucking hate it so much.
  • Gustav has been enjoying Christmas too, doing his duty of being Santa like every year:
  •  I made that gifset of Gone Girl, using some of the book's phrases. It got a shitload of notes:
  • Everyone! It was beet juice! I knew Amy wouldn't waste wine like that!
  • Fincher is wrong on when the fear started, though. I'm pretty sure everyone already shat themselves during that scene with the hammer.
  • Here's first footage from Game of Thrones season 5. Can they give Cersei a new necklace already? This is ridiculous:
  • In the same Year ender video we got our first look at Hugh Laurie in Veep.
  • Also here's a photo from behind the scenes ----->
  • That's Ollie from The Thick of It! Is he gonna appear on Veep? Cause that would be awesome! I know he is the producer but they are really wasting his talents by not having him on the show. They should bring in Glenn too he is my soul mate!
  • As for the movies I've seen this week, equally terrible as Blidness, although probably moreso because it didn't have Mark in it, was The Riot Club. Not only was it boring, I was hoping that every single character there - save for wonderful Natalie Dormer stealing the show - would get brutally slaughtered by the end of it. I hate spoiled people the most so that was awful to sit through, but had it been somewhat interesting at least it would be redeemable. It was just shitty. What a waste of Tom Hollander and Natalie.
  • Another thing with this movie - you see this is why I don't find young guys attractive. They have this sense of entitlement to them. Another thing is that one of them got mugged and acted like a little bitch. Oh my god, where are all the men?!
  • We live in a truly idiotic world. After Sony said that the Interview is getting released some people actually started claiming this is all a marketing stunt. My Goodness what a stunt it is! Threatening starting cyber war and getting the president of USA to lie to general public over a movie. The only thing crazier that this whole thing is thinking that Sony 1. embarrassed themselves 2. allowed a bunch of e-mails insulting A listers to leak 3. lost the revenue because of leaked movies on purpose. Look at the stuff that happened - cyber attack on a massive scale that was more harmful to Sony than any revenues that this movie can possibly bring, them actually needing to make changes to their precious Bond script because it got stolen, an unknown cyber attack on Korea, that could have been American (although depriving them of Internet is kinda like depriving a bald guy of a hair brush) and the international tension which also might have resulted in the attack on Southern Korean nuclear plant. And you are actually gonna write/tweet/post that you think this is a marketing move?
  • I saw the movie last night and fuck you, it was funny! Franco was so good here, he wasn't in character as deep as this since Pineapple Express. There were so many fun surprises - Jonah from Veep, Jean Ralphio, that Eminem scene, Rob Lowe, that McConaughey line, the soundtrack was bitchin' and the dog survived! I'm gonna review the film soon.
  • Seriously that dog was so cute. It was also in the most badass shot of any movie in 2014.
  • Even though the freedom of expression finally won we had some bad news this week.
  • First one was the news that Joe Cocker passed away. I love his music. And that is what it is - actual music. Nowadays it's just Taylor Swift and more garbage like that. Seriously I almost exclusively listen to movie music and Lana and whenever I feel 'I'm gonna check some new music" and I do that I'm just appalled. It's just noise. Cocker gave us timeless songs. Here is my favorite one:
  • Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton split up. This is awful. I spent so much time at work going through divorce cases and then even those couples that seem so perfect for each other and have everything they can possibly wish for, split up. I only have Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman left. But there is nothing breaking them up. They once did it in front of a deer and it nodded approvingly.
  • I know things were slow on the site lately. I have few emergency drafts of reviews in case it gets so bad there won't even be time for RF. But I am working on my massive Gone Girl list, hopefully I'll publish that next week and there is always that blogathon where all I need to do is just post the rules and announce it.

    1. OMG!!! That Xmas card from the Dunnes is awesome. Smile! OK, we're done. "I hate you Amy!" That is hilarious. So far, it's been really good as I'm watching my final Blind Spot film at the moment and I've got one more hour of the extended director's cut of Nymphomaniac to finish.

Blindness was terrible. Waste of amazing talent with a very bad story.

I'm going to miss Joe Cocker too. He's one of the key reasons into why Carlito's Way is one of the best films of the 1990s. That use of "You Are So Beautiful" is just so powerful. That voice will always melt your heart.

      1. Oh God, I don't think I'd sit through extended cut of Nymphomaniac even if someone paid me to :)

I really need to rewatch Carlito's Way.

    2. Merry Christmas Sati and thank you so much for the link! WHOA, that’s a gorgeous photo of Mark and look his curls are starting to show [woo wee!]

Glad to hear you’re having two weeks vacation, good for you! Oy, you REALLY hate your job don’t you? Hey hopefully you can find a better job next year!

I might rent The Riot Club just for Sam Reid, but it didn’t really appeal to me as a whole. As for The Interview, I’m still not that interested in seeing it even now that we COULD see it. But I want to be the one to decide NOT to see it, instead of being dictated by some nut job in North Korea. In any case, that dog IS adorable indeed!

Ahah, that’s one creepy Christmas card w/ the Dunne family!

      1. Yeah, hopefully.

It's a really shitty movie, none of the actors in the cast makes it worth seeing. I reckon you don't like Rogen, yes? It's better if you don't watch it then, I see tons of people watching the movie regardless of their dislike for him and then whining about it on twitter.

    3. Merry Christmas Sati! I hope you enjoy your holidays!

That Christmas card made my day. Brilliant. Also, Gone Girl gifsets are amazing! I can't wait to read/see your Gone Girl post.

I'll definitely miss Joe Cocker. His voice was so unique, it's really terrible.

Megan Mullally and Nicke Offerman are everything. So perfect together, love them. It's a shame about Helena and Tim though, they were perfect for each other as well.

I will be watching The Interview soon, and I'm so glad to hear that it's funny, and that the dog lives!!

      1. Thanks, you too!

It should be up on Sunday :)

The Interview seems to be really divisive, I really liked it but some people really hated it.

    4. I didn't have as primal a Christmas as you did. Then again, I don't think eating empanadas by hand counts... But I will say that Gustav is hyper adorable, and I only wish I could rock Xmas that hard.

The entire Interview situation is ridiculous. I understand how cynicism and the modern internet makes people think it's all a conspiracy, but it's stupid to think that Sony gained more than they lost by a move like this. Or would basically be crucified if their lie were revealed. They'd face some serious hassles over it, and audiences would hate them.

And hey, I don't love my job either, but when an NYC law office burns down, it's.kind of a big deal. It's not that I can't understand your feeling (God, do I ever), but I would instead hope that you get contacted by someone looking for good attorneys. (But I never work family law cases, so I understand my trauma is less than yours).

Merry Christmas, and thanks for the link! I wish you many visions of naked Ruffalo, and sugar plums and whatnot.

      1. I think the audiences already hate Sony for what was done here, but their involvement would pale in comparison with Obama's claims. Another thing is that they lost money on this whole thing, so there is no gain here.

I work in the courthouse on temporary basis until I get everything done to work with criminal cases in district's attorney office. But there is nothing worse than dealing with judges every day.

        Delete
      2. Oh - judges every day. Yeah, that wish totally makes sense now =) I'm sure you're not alone in your feelings...

    5. (Sorry if this is a duplicate comment, Blogger is being weird)

That is exactly how I think a Dunne family Christmas card would look!

I hate conspiracy theories, but the fact that people actually think Sony did all of this to themselves is insane.

It sucks Stannis wasn't in the Yearender video, but I think I spotted Davos behind Jon!

Sometimes I think about watching Blindness, then I read comments like yours and am reminded why I keep skipping it. It sounds ridiculous.

      1. Oh really? I just notice that boring new kid with Jon :) I'm really hoping for some LS hints in upcoming trailer my anticipation for the show is almost non existent.

It's such a boring, awful movie. Definitely skip it.

    6. Merry Christmas! That Dunne Christmas card is great, and on that note awesome Amy gifs! Blindness never appealed to me to watch because of its content - I read the book and despite its potential to be a movie (back then), I don't think I could watch those scenes depicted in the book.

      1. Yeah Blindness is a hugely unpleasant movie, I didn't read the book but this story as a film didn't work out.

    7. The whole situation around The Interview is a bit awful to be honest. Now that Russia is taking North Korea's side, I feel like the whole political tension happening around me is getting a bit ridiculous and scary.

The movie was okay for me, wasn't the biggest fan but I'm in general not a fan of these comedies anymore. The puppy was so cute though! I was especially proud of Franco protecting the puppy and then the puppy feeling comfortable enough to almost fall asleep! And the suits! I mean, Franco was so well dressed in this that it kind of elevated the whole experience to another level.

Enjoy your holiday and vacation! :)

      1. Thank you! Franco looked good except for that one suit that kinda looked like The Joker's suit :)

    8. BAHAHAHAHA! That Dunne's Christmas card almost made me wake up my kids in laughter this morning!

SO much to say. Love the tidbits on Gone Girl and the beet juice scene...love it. Fincher just sounds like this guy I really want to work with. Like, if I were a director I think I'd be fascinated by his approach to filmmaking. Love the clip of Mark and Edward talking about him. I so love that they are locked in for Oscar noms, even though I haven't seen either of their performances yet. They are just two of the best best actors working right now.

Sad about Cocker and about the Burton/Carter split.

I need the Interview in my life, and that gif of the dog is amazing. I don't ever need to rewatch Blindness, though.

      :-P

Um, I want your blogathon! Hope things start to slow down a bit for you. And thanks for the link!

    9. Happy Holidays! Had no idea about Burton and HBC. They always seemed perfectly in unison with their weirdness. They were one couple I didn't think would split up. And yeah, every part of the situation surrounding The Interview is ridiculous. Great post.

I really liked The Interview as well! It was surprisingly funny, maybe funnier than it would have been if it wasn't initially prevented from being screened. Gives a whole new layer to the Kim Jong-un drama. Also the McConaughey line was hilarious. Loved it.
