11 things to look forward to in Game of Thrones 5

By s. Sunday, March 29, 2015 ,
We're two weeks away from the season premiere of Game of Thrones 5. It's hard to predict what events from the books are gonna be featured in this season, thanks to quite secretive marketing campaign (we only have 2 trailers and 2 short TV spots) and the many changes from the books already indicated in the released footage. Also the show goes further than the stories in the books - most notably with Sansa and so far it looks that to avoid spoiling whatever happens for her next, her story will merge with some of the plots from published books.

Anyways, here's what we know for sure that's gonna happen in this season that I'm looking forward to:
(spoilers!)
11. Dorne
This season we travel to a whole new location - the stunning, colorful and lively Dorne where we meet Oberyn Martell's family, including his older brother Doran (Alexander Siddig) and Oberyn's three daughters. In a change from the books Jaime actually travels to Dorne to make sure his daughter Myrcella, sent there by Tyrion in season 2, is safe. Also in this storyline we have Ellaria, taking over Arianne's role in the books and calling loudly for vengeance and Bronn, who travels with Jaime/

10. "...you vile, scheming, evil bitch" - chaos in King's Landing
Because of Cersei's actions both Cersei and Margery find themselves in life threatening situations. This storyline includes a number of similarities to Anne Bolyen's trial (ironically Dormer played Boleyn in the Tudors), sadistic interrogations, cruel septas and fanatical religious men. This is gonna be good TV.

9. Jorah and Tyrion

These two fan favorites are gonna meet this season and I cannot wait to see Glenn and Dinklage share the screen.

8. The tears of Sansa's fans/The Wedding in Winterfell (rumored episode 6)
I don't like Sansa. I don't like Sophie Turner. I think that everything about this girl is overrated. And I'm not particularly fond of Sansa fans, writing hogwash like 'OMG her Maleficent dress was so amazing". So truly, what is interesting to me about her arc in the show it's the hilarious outrage of her fanbase whenever something 'horrible' happens. This season Littlefinger and Sansa arrive in Winterfell. In the book Ramsay marries Sansa's friend Jeyne Poole and everyone pretends it's Arya, so that Ramsay would have a better claim to the North. Horrible things happen to Jeyne and of sexual nature too. So just imagine what happens in this fandom if in a twist it's Sansa who marries Ramsay and has sex with him, as some rumours point to. We know Sansa is in Winterfell. We know there will be a wedding. So there is a chance she is the lucky bride. Either way let me just say I'm appalled Sansa seems to be taking over the role of Manderlys who are avenging the North. Manderlys are interesting. Sansa isn't.

Also between Littlefinger and Sansa they don't have 1/10 of Roose's intelligence. They are so screwed.

7. Hardhome (episode 8)
What is not as big of a battle as the one on the Wall last season is shaping up to be far more epic - Wildings and Jon Snow fighting the wights looks like the major battle event this season. Rumor has it we will see Night's King himself in this sequence and wights...underwater. It sounds wickedly cool.

6. "Fetch me the block!" (episode 5)

Jon Snow executing that little weasel Janos Slynt as Stannis looks from his tower and nods approvingly. Oh my God.

Lena Headey during the shooting of the sequence
5. Walk of Shame (episode 10)

Arguably the biggest moment in Cersei's storyline - her walk of atonement for her crimes, as she, shaved and naked, is forced to walk the streets of King's Landing. It's a beautifully written moment in the books and hopefully the show does it justice.

4. Daenerys takes flight (episode 9)

The sequence in the Daznak Pit of Daenerys taming Drogon and then flying away on his back is quite possibly gonna be the most visually stunning moment in the show. Here's the thing though - Tyrion is also there in the show and it looks like unlike in the books, he may actually meet with Daenerys? I cannot imagine D&D being as bold/stupid as to imitate Titanic flying moment and have Tyrion mount Drogon too, but more idiotic things have happened. Either way, seeing Dany fly on Drogon is bound to be a huge nerd moment for everyone watching the show.

3. "For the Watch" (episode 10)

People will lose their minds over this.

2. Any kind of combat including Stannis

I don't think Battle of Winterfell is happening this season, we saw no glimpses of it in any of the promo materials. But I desperately want to see Stannis, with his mighty scruff and armor swing a sword.

1. The third year of 'will she rise?!' paranoia.
We don't know much about Brienne's storyline this season. We know that she stays true to her oath and searches for Stark girls (though, she already found both of them, but let's disregard that fact). She may or may not hear creepy noises in episode 2 and find shelter in the woods in episode 7. There is an old woman in her storyline who is going to help her because she understand the 'dangerous situation' Brienne is in. Then there is that shot of her and Pod in the snow blizzard.

what...the....hell?!

There are rumours of Gendry returning this season. Also Brienne appears to be wandering around the woods area quite a bit. I just want to see Stoneheart. I've suffered enough.

Here's the most recent spot for the show:

  1. I like Sansa in the books but have basically lost complete interest in her character in the show over Seasons 3 and 4. The writing for her has just not been consistent IMO. So I actually agree with you that whatever they're doing with her storyline is going to be a mess. And I'll definitely get the popcorn out too, as her fans are so fucking batshit. And yeah Sophie is pretty damn mediocre, I feel like she's getting worse at acting as she's getting older and the people who perv on her creep me out.

    1. For me the creepiest group are those who actually ship her with Littlefinger O_O

    2. most of those people are actually aware that they're creepy though. the ones who aren't aware are weird as hell though

  2. Only thing I hope will happen is some Roose trolling Ramsay.

I really hope mentally incapacitated show LF wont outsmart Roose.

    - Roose is Azor Ahai

  3. Plenty to be excited about with the forthcoming season, while just looking at how early the season was being advertised only further highlights the monster that this show has become, let alone of the few I watch as its show, to avoid the inevitable spoilers I'd have to face the next day if I miss it.

  4. Number 4 is going to be awesome! But why is Tyrion there? Anyways, I can't for Tyrion and Jorah scenes. =D

    1. Tyrion is there because the writers decided they know better than Martin :)

  5. I remember reading the Walk of Shame in the books and immediately going 'Lena is going to act the shit out of this scene.' That is, unless D&D screw it up, which I think they might do unfortunately :(

'Fetch me the block!' As a fellow Stannis fan, I approve so much of this.

  6. Hi Sati, I ❤ your blog. I have one in Turkish, a couple of days ago I've changed my old rating system and worked on a new one inspired by yours. I was like meaning to find something that's amusing and the idea behind yours stayed with me. Of course I changed it a lot (the medium, the scale -to an extent-) and here is the final result, I wanted you to know this and I'd love to here your opinion:

  8. Daenerys on Drogon? Holly shit...

I need Cersei's bitchiness. She is so much fun. Hopefully that will make up for the lack of Geofrrey.

    1. Yep! Unless they fuck it up...

She is extra bitchy in the last 2 books, hopefully they show it well in the show

  9. I'm getting really excited for this season! there are so many great Book 4 & 5 moments to come. Cersei's storyline is going to be so fantastic - the show better do it justice. And the Janos execution is one of my favorite moments from the book so I'm so glad it's going to appear here. I'm very interested in how it would work out with Sansa possibly subbing in for Jeyne... I really liked how that was going so far with Reek in the book. I also really hope they end the season with showing Dany in the desert.. I loved how her storyline ends with her starting to harden. It might be hard to show since it's mostly going on in her head, but it was such a cool part of the book.

    1. Yeah I wonder what's gonna happen with Dany near the end of the season - can't imagine we only see her fly in 5x09 and we don't see her at all in finale, all finales always included her so I imagine we see her in the desert

  10. I like Sansa and I do NOT want her to marry Ramsay. I just don't see how that's going to work at all. Roose agreeing to marry her and Ramsay severs his Lannister ties because she's wanted to Joffrey's death, and they made him Warden of the North, so why risk that. They can't just say she's Alyane, because Theon would recognize her and rat. I figured if they did something, it would be having her and Littlefinger replace the Manderleys. I have no idea where they are going with that. I'm scared.

I'm looking forward to a lot of these things though, particularly "fetch me a block" and hopefully Lady Stoneheart's return.

    Also lots of majestic Stannis.

    1. Yeah apparently the recent news is that Theon doesn't rat her out and she is pretending she is Alayne and that this is Theon's big redemption or some shit. I think in the end Ramsay doesn't treat her bad because 1. Roose tells him to calm the fuck down 2. Sansa fans would slit their wrists.
