By Sati. Thursday, May 7, 2015

Here are some other White Swans, Black Swans:
Ginger - Casino - to the outside world Ginger is kind, glamorous and has everything worked out. In reality she is a drag addict and alcoholic.

Zed - Pulp Fiction - Zed is wearing a cop uniform. He's probably a police officer, praised in his job, maybe even married with kids. In reality he is a sadistic rapist.

Julianna - Vanilla Sky - beautiful, desirable, fun. Julianna seems like someone who has it all. But in reality she is so alone - something which Cameron Diaz, in her best work to date, nails in the saddest girl to hold the martini scene - she just wants to be loved. When her heart is crushed, the madness takes over.
Mavis - Young Adult - to the people in her small town Mavis is a role model- beautiful, successful, happy. But in reality her beauty requires whole routine to repair her looks after all the heavy drinking she does, her contract is about to expire and she is deeply  unfulfilled, stuck with the same hopes she had 10 years ago.

Joe - Killer Joe - another cop with the sinister side. Joe is methodical and cold. But in reality he is into some really kinky stuff with young girls. Plus he kills people for money.
Carol - Repulsion - Carol is shy, virginal, almost afraid of men. But inside she is bursting with unfulfilled sexual desires and passions that start manifesting themselves in increasingly creepy and violent ways.

Laura - The Hours - on the outside Laura is a perfect wife, on the inside all she does is wanting to escape which includes even leaving behind her two kids, including infant daughter.
Diane - Trainspotting - a schoolgirl by day, a wild party girl at night.

Patrick Bateman - American Psycho - a successful....wait, what is this that he actual does for a living? But in reality Patrick is a crazy killer, profoundly depraved, barely holding it together under the facade of normality.

Thanks everyone for participating! And now head out to the linked blogs and check out their Swans.

  1. Such a great blogathon, and I love your additional picks! I love morally ambiguous characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed this.

  2. I'm just glad I managed to contribute something. Another possible White Swan/Black Swan that occurred to me was Sam Spade from The Maltese Falcon. His black swan characteristics are in the methods he uses, which include extortion and knowingly associating with a gang of murderous criminals. The white swan side is that even if his methods aren't always the most ethical, he is still trying to do the right thing; namely figuring out who murdered his partner and finding a way to bring those killers to justice. Sadly I never got around to writing it up. This was still a great activity. Now I've got to see about trying to get into some other blogathons, and perhaps find some more participants for the one I'm still running.

  3. I wanted to contribute to this but I had so many things I was doing that I didn't have time as I finally had one who I wanted to do. Allen from The Other Guys. Mild-mannered police accountant with a hot wife Yet, he hides his own anger which scares the crap out of Mark Wahlberg as it relates to Allen's past as a pimp in college where he was called Gator and eventually used his dark side for good by telling Batman "Gator needs his gat you punk-ass bitch".

  6. Joe is a great choice for a white swan/black swan. Even though I didn't participate (wishing I did), I enjoyed the blog posts about these characters.

  7. You've got some great choices up there. Surprised no one else did Patrick Bateman. I love Killer Joe. I love lots of the rest, too, but I don't feel this one gets as much as it deserves. I was glad to be a part of this. Thanks for a great idea.
