(220) Batfleck rises? + links

By Sati. Friday, January 29, 2016
  • Batfleck! Officially the only thing in this movie that looks good.
  • The massive praise Affleck received for this 30-second long TV spot is a bit much but he did accomplish something - Bale looks quite terrible in comparison. I mean he just mopes around for three movies with the addition of gross depression beard in the last one. It's like one of those performances that were fine but now it hits you that Bruce Wayne should be so different. Affleck may actually give us the best Batman and Wayne - he looks like he has a pulse which is a massive improvement over most of the previous incarnations. He is pissed off, driven and brutal. It's a shame the entire movie around him looks like absolute dogshit. Not even the regular kind, but that one time Gustav had an explosive diarrhea in the hallway.
  • I've been making a shitload of Suicide Squad edits lately. I also saw that DC special during which the trailer premiered and there were showing those quick snippets of interviews with cast. Leto showed up in a coat with blue furry collar and said "The Joker isn’t someone to mess with. There will always be a Joker…waiting". I cannot fucking wait for him to do press for this movie. It's gonna be a laugh riot, that man is the definition of an eccentric.
  • Entire week from 7 AM to - sometimes staying late - 4 PM I was working all the time. My entire week can be summed up in this brilliant gif. I am so freaking exhausted. I had terrible cases to handle too which were almost physically painful to read about. And since I apparently don't suck as hard as I did in my job before and I'm getting better, my bosses are giving me more and more to do and I'm just collapsing by the time I get home. Also there were other issues at work:
  • So this is short RF although the reason for it may be that not that much happened. Hardy is presumably partying about his nomination with his dogs and Leo because there is literally no new pics or news this week.
  • I had no way of watching any new Harrison films this week. I couldn't be distracted with all the crap going on at work. I'm gonna see Witness today., though. And probably Working Girl again because it is essentially Ford porn. And The Fugitive because some gifs from it showed up on my dash and some drool came out.
  • Here is the particularly saucy picture from Six Days, Seven Nights ----->
  • I envy that tree.
  • Also here a bunch of pics of him being shirtless. Jesus Christ, the tennis one.
  • There's also this. So adorable!
  • They are going ahead with that Blade Runner sequel and the shooting starts in July. Why, God. Why would you in your infinite wisdom allow this to happen? I can almost see Harrison showing up and Gosling gunning him down and taking over the film. I like Gosling, he seems like a nice guy and he is a good actor. But I'll punch him in the dick if this happens.
  • Leonardo DiCaprio has met the Pope and probably received his blessing and absolution for being nominated in spite of being white. One more month, Leo. One....more...month.
  •  Have you guys seen the video of Leo talking about that book to the Pope? He gave him a book and spoke to him so eloquently about it and I just couldn't stop laughing. This was literally all over the news today.
  • I know people are talking about that boycott or whatever but I really think this is gonna be one of the most watched ceremonies. The media is just going fucking crazy about the fact that Leo is finally winning. Here in my country we have this whole constitutional crisis going on, there is still this huge immigrant issue happening in Europe, there is big stuff going on but yet Leo meeting the Pope is main news and it is immediately followed up with the reporters talking about how he is gonna win Oscar.
  • I am so fucking tired this week I won't find the strength to see The Revenant this weekend - I'm going next weekend - but I did check out of curiosity and most screenings are almost sold out. I so want to see it but all I can do for the weekend is sit on my ass and rest and I need to be in better shape to endure the insane beauty that is wild, feral Hardy on the big screen.
  • Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are expecting a second child!
  • This video proving Amy Schumer stole jokes from other comedians is pure gold.
  • So we know what wins Oscar next year - Birth of a Nation. Yeah and that dude who plays the lead and I believe also directed the film, who is also, by the way, a raging homophobe (and was accused or rape), is getting nominated. The only way he isn't is if he is rides over a child or something. Even then I can see people finding some way to defend this guy.
  •  The one good thing? Armie Hammer won't have another flop on his hands.
  • Joseph Fiennes was cast in a movie where he will play Michael Jackson and Jada hasn't made any videos about this yet. What is going on?
  • There's new footage from The Witch!
  • Lena Headey was on Kimmel's show this week and this happened:
  • Brittani reviews terrific Bone Tomahawk
  • Alex shares his favorite performances of this year's Oscar nominees
  • Ruth lists 12 most intriguing movies from Sundance
  • Fisti writes about why it's a great thing that Leo will finally win his Oscar
  • Mark reviews The Revenant
  • Mariah shares a great post on OscarsSoWhite
  •  and m.brown finally saw Sicario

    1. Oooh, the dreaded dick punch. Even though I don't worship at the altar of Blade Runner, I still have a hard time believing they going to make a sequel.

Sorry to hear work has been so busy. Uh...my school's been closed all week...so I haven't contributed to society since last Friday. Good times!

Also, my dear friend...I am two hours and twenty six minutes from seeing feral Hardy. I'm taking my wife...should be interesting. She has NO IDEA.

Thanks for the link! Jealous you saw it theatrically, as that dinner scene would have been f--king bananas with a room full of people, I'm sure.

      1. Oh yeah everyone in the cinema was either silent or just gasping especially when Del Toro mentioned his daughter in this scene. The entire movie was intense as fuck.

Cannot wait for your Revenant review!

    2. Whoa. Did not know all that information about the actor/director from Birth of a Nation. Yikes......

    3. I'm still not feeling Batfleck, or this Batman v Superman movie. I watched Man of Steel on TV the other day again, it's so bad.

Joseph Fiennes being MJ is such a joke. Jada would only notice if Will was "a contender" for the role.

      The Witch looks so good!

      Thanks for the link!

    4. Thanks for the link Sati! I love the leo giffy! I feel like that some weeks.

I'm so disgusted with Nate Parker. From what I read it says he and another guy on the wrestling team allegedly raped, tortured, and stalked an 18 year old girl. His co-defendant was convicted. I cannot look at him the same again. I will not be watching 'Birth of a Nation' and that's unfortunate b/c I heard it's a good film.

If there's one good thing about the Oscars this year it will be that Leo wins. I so hope he wins. I may tune in for that! If he doesn't win...I don't even want to think about that.

      1. Yeah I mean....there are some people in Hollywood that did awful stuff but this thing is really terrible. I don't know why this isn't news everywhere

Oh Leo is gonna win he has God on his side now

    5. Wow, I just watched the Amy Schumer video. Geez, there were some serious similarities, especially the magician one. Some of the others could be coincidence, but that one was so blatant. Wow...just wow.

      1. Yeah Schumer is such a fraud. I can't with the fact she is not funny and she steals the jokes, I mean even her taste in the stuff she steals sucks

    6. If no one goes for Leo's crowning ceremony, I'll go. I'll be the one with a banner saying LEO IS THE FUCKING BOMB IN WOLF OF WALL STREET!!!!

Batfleck..... I'll need to see the film to see if he's better than Bale and Keaton.

      1. He may even seem better given how the film is gonna be terrible and if he manages not to suck in it, that would be an accomplishment

    7. Poor Leo. Just when he has one hand on the Oscar already, it's overshadowed by a race issue. He really doesn't have much luck when it comes to Oscar night. I'll just be happy if Hardy gets one. Thanks for the linkage as always miss. :)

      1. Hardy is probably not gonna win but I'll just be happy if he attends the ceremony :)

    8. Totally get you about the work and needing time to just.. be. I had a free weekend, yet, I still have to go to work because a coworker fell ill. So I'm clocking 15 work days in the past 19 days. I can already feel like I don't remember how to sleep properly, or to rest. Isn't being a grown up such fun!

I saw The Revenant.. and I'd be honest, if Hardy would have had more screen time and he would have been considered as the lead, his performance would have topped Leo's. Actually, I think Hardy was a bit better than Leo.

      1. It's just so fucking exhausting. And I actually been on a sick leave for 1/2 of January yet all it took is 10 days of this shit and I'm so tired.

I'm not surprised, Hardy is God :D

    9. Everything about Batman vs Superman looks pretty bad to me. I'll still see it out of morbid curiosity, but I'm not necessarily looking forward to it. I am anxious for Suicide Squad, though.

We really don't need a Blade Runner sequel. Regardless of how it turns out please don't punch anyone in the dick. It hurts me just to type that.

I have no idea what to think of the casting for Michael Jackson. How do you reasonably cast the role of a black man who was born with a dark complexion, but spent his last few decades pale as a ghost? Do you get a black guy and put him in white-face for later scenes or get a white guy and black him up for the earlier ones? I think it's a fair question and the reason there really hasn't been a public outcry over this. No one knows how to deal with this beyond the fact of recognizing there should be a movie made about MJ's life.

Nate Parker...sigh. I've never heard those stories before. Thanks for that info. It certainly changes how I view him as a person. However, in the interest of fairness, I must note that a beloved and recently deceased artist also faced rape allegations and was said to have sex with girls as young as 15 while on the road. If we're going to put Parker in the 'piece of shit' category, which I am more than okay with, we must be willing to do the same to David Bowie.

      1. Suicide Squad looks so much better, it's crazy. I mostly blame Snyder but most of all WB, why would they give this franchise to director that bad is beyond me

Gosling would deserve it, though :)

    10. Thanks so much for the link, Margaret! I hope Christine gets a decent release internationally. Bummer about your crazy workload, January's been super hectic at work for me too but sounds like you're in even more dire need of a break.

Yes, Batfleck! I have to admit I'm crushing a bit on Bruce Wayne in BVS, heh I never thought I'd have the hots for Affleck in a film with Henry Cavill, ahah, but dayum he looks good in this one and I think you're right he might be the saving grace of this movie.

      1. You're welcome!

Affleck wins with Cavill in the charisma department and isn't that just a little bit depressing :)

    11. I weirdly asked myself how Hollywood does to have so many horrible people ? It's just seem above the general level! I didn't know for Nate Parker (must admit not interested yet by Birth of a Nation), and well, that's just dark and horrible.

      1. It's a good question....I'm sure a lot of stars did awful things given their money and power....but this seems to be an issue with this guy even before he happened in Hollywood so some people are just awful to begin with

    12. I hope work calms down and you feel better.
Joseph Finnnes as Michael Jackson is a complete no. What were they thinking?
There is no need to remake Blade Runner especially with Ryan Gosling in the lead. Ugh.
I fully expect that we will not hear too much of allegations against Nate Parker considering he was not convicted, with Harvey buying this movie at Sundance, it will get Oscar nominations and any whiff of a controversy will be quickly shut down.
Who would have thought that Affleck would make a good Batman? It will interesting to see the Batman movies he will star in and direct.
I hope you enjoyed Witness. It's one of my favorites. Not only for Ford but also a small role for young and handsome Viggo Mortensen.

      1. Thank you!

Yeah it will be interesting and potentially disgusting to see what happens with this story next Oscar season

I think the film around him looks so aggressively terrible Bafleck just gains by not sucking in comparison to everything around him

Witness was incredible, just made a post about it!

    13. I agree with the above comment sati, Batfleck looks good cos the rest of it looks so bad. I'll tell you what though, I'm not a superhero film fan, but boy have you got me excited for the Suicide Squad! And I loved Harley Quinn in the video games. Plus I reeeeally wanna see Leto as Joker!

That sucks about your workload. You said cases, do you mind if I ask what you do? Sorry I'm new here :P

I cannot wait to see The Witch again. Its better than It Follows ;) sooo good

And a Blade Runner sequel. Sigh. And its being done by a director I like too :(

That Amy Schumer video was amusing. Curious, what did you think of Trainwreck?

Anyways sorry for the long reply :)

Ohhhhh you saw the Witch already?! so jealous!

Trainwreck was only watchable for me because of Heder and Swinton. It's not a terrible film but Schumer's character and her vulgar and not funny jokes made me cringe

    14. I don't know HOW Amy can even fight this now...like...WOW.

I hadn't heard of the Nate Parker story...but WTF! How is he still working? How is he getting this praise? Gross.

    15. I'm highly anticipating the Blade Runner sequel, since the first one is one of my all-time favorite films. But I'm worried... Maybe it'll turn out to be AMAZING, like Fury Road did. :/

There's a theory that Cranston could upset Leo at the Oscars. I don't see it happening AT ALL, but I just want the suspense to be over already.
