7 films to see on Halloween.

Halloween is just few days away and it's a perfect time for a little horror marathon. If your nearby theatres didn't prepare anything special - for example obligatory "Saw" marathon, you don't feel like seeing "Paranormal Activity 3" - and you really shouldn't considering the reviews - and there's nothing on TV, here are some suggestions for you. If you are easily scared you can always watch something related to magic and not filled with zombies, werewolves or vampires. Here are some recommendations as to what you may enjoy watching during Hallow's Eve:


1. Trick 'r Treat
Director: Michael Dougherty
You can't devote all day to scares and you will need a bit of laughter in intermission - that's the movie just for that. Simple, easy to fallow, but with a little bit of twists and turns "Trick 'r Treat" takes place entirely during Halloween's night. Entertaining, funny and colorful but still with decent amount of gore and horror, "Trick 'r Treat" will remind you that you simply have to honor Halloween. If you don't give the treats....bloody tricks will follow.
Trivia: Most of the Jack O' Lanterns were made out of either foam or ceramic. An on-set joke was that no pumpkins were harmed during the making of this movie.
2. The Shining
Director: Stanley Kubrick
You should have at least one movie based on the work of Stephan King to see on this day. "The Shining" is one of the best, not just when it comes to adaptations, but horror movies all together. Upon its release it was largely panned by critics and now it's considered to be one of the best horror movies ever made. Kubrick's characteristic way of shooting films makes you feel as if you were in that haunted hotel along with the characters and Jack Nicholson who is slowly falling out of control.
Trivia:  Stanley Kubrick, known for his compulsiveness and numerous retakes, got the difficult shot of blood pouring from the elevators in only three takes. This would be remarkable if it weren't for the fact that the shot took nine days to set up; every time the doors opened and the blood poured out, Kubrick would say, "It doesn't look like blood." In the end, the shot took approximately a year to get right.
3. Saw

Director: James Wan

Here's the one that started it all - thanks to "Saw" nowadays you can't go to any modern horror film and expect nothing else than cruelty and pool of blood. The first movie has atrocious acting, but it also has terrific kills and twist. You can pretty much chose any of the films from the series if what you are looking for is lots of blood and guts flying around.
Trivia: According to the DVD commentary director James Wan points out that many of the scare scenes in the film were nightmares he and Leigh Whannell had as kids.
4. The Exorcist  
Director: William Friedkin
You can't have Halloween horror marathon without at least one classic and "The Exorcist" is the way to go. There were reports of people actually dying of heart attack when they first saw the film in theatres. "The Exorcist" is one of the most acclaimed horror movies - it's also the first horror film to be nominated for Best Picture Academy Award.
Trivia: Due to its controversial material, this movie was not available on video in the UK until 1999 when the British Board of Film Censors (BBFC) approved an uncut version.

5. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Director: Chris Columbus

Halloween is also about magic - why not watch a movie that started one of the most magical journeys in cinematic world? Adorable and sweet, full of adventure and spells, "Harry Potter" is perfect for those who aren't very fond of horror films, but still want to see something special on October 31.
Trivia: Alan Rickman was hand-picked to play Snape by J.K. Rowling, and received special instruction from her as to his character. Rowling even provided the actor with vital details of Snape's back story not revealed until the final novel.
6. Practical Magic
Director: Griffin Dunne
Halloween is also Samhain - Witches' New Year. There is only a handful of movies about witches and the best one among them is " Practical Magic" charming tale about love and the bond between two sisters.It's also the best Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock ever looked, it has fantastic soundtrack, young Evan Rachel Wood and magnetic Goran Visnjic.
Trivia: According to Sandra Bullock in the commentary, in the scene where Gillian and Sally get drunk with their aunts and they sling insults, the actresses actually got drunk. They were drinking some very bad tequila that Nicole Kidman brought.
7. The Woman in Black
Director: Herbert Wise

Before next year remake with Daniel Radcliffe hits the cinemas, Halloween may be good opportunity to either revisit or watch for the first time, the chilling original. Although TV movie, "The Woman in Black" is universally acknowledged as cult classic and one of the scariest horror films.

Trivia: Adrian Rawlins - who played Daniel Radcliffe's father in the Harry Potter series - played the same character in the 1989 version as Radcliffe plays in the remake.
