Screaming Sunday: Ghost Ship

Sati's movie rating - 60/100
Plot: A salvage crew that discovers a long-lost 1962 passenger ship floating lifeless in a remote region of the Bering Sea soon notices, as they try to tow it back to land, that "strange things" happen...
The heroes: Crew lead by Julianna Margulies, who delivers pretty strong performance that is one of the highlights in otherwise average horror movie
The antagonists: Ghosts of the former passangers of the ship, including beautiful Francesca who tempts men to their doom.
Scare factor: 3/5 evil pumpkins - mostly jump scares
Gore factor:3/5 bloody Leatherfaces - fantastic and gory opening, disturbing and bloody images throughout the film
Best scene: Incredible opening sequence that sets the tone for entire movie.
What makes it so great?Great atmosphere, the prologue, Julianna Margulis and very young Emily Browning as the ghost who tries to help the crew avoid death.
Oh-oh something's not right line: "You must go at once. Leave the ship while you still can!"
Morbid trivia: The design for the "Antonia Graza" was modeled after the "Andrea Doria" (a man's name), a real-life Italian cruise ship that also met a tragic fate: it sank in the 1950s after colliding with another liner. Contrary to this fact, the "Antonia Graza" actually shows a stronger resemblance to the Leonardo Da Vinci, a slightly altered and larger design which replaced the Doria after she sank.
Is there a twist? Yes, as usual in modern films.
Hint: Don't watch it before prom or some other gala involving dancing in the ballroom.
Unsuitable for: People who frequently stay on boats or ships
Repercussions: Fear of wires.

  1. This looks like pure thriller movie entertainment, nothing more or less.

    Great review!
