Saturday TV Special: That 70's Show

Plot: Back in the days of Led Zeppelin 8-tracks, TaB colas, and Farrah Fawcett posters, "That '70s Show" continues to flashback to the times where bell bottoms were the hip thing. Set in the Wisconsin suburbs, Eric Forman lives under the authority of his parents, Red and Kitty. Next door is his girlfriend/neighbor, Donna Pinciotti and her parents Bob and Midge. The rest of the gang includes spoiled Jackie, and her on again-off again boyfriend, playboy Kelso, Hyde, a conspiracy theorist who believes Xerox will take over the world, and Fez, a foreign exchange student who is soaking up American culture like a sponge. The gang mostly likes to spend their time in Eric's basement, pondering their lives, parents, and their futures, but they get into many funny mishaps and adventures in their teenage lives.
Structure: Each episodes follows another problems that the gang faces - from getting a beer for the party to Donna finding panties in Eric's car. There is also a circle - when friends gather around and smoke marijuana which leads to hilarious exchanges and one of the funniest parts of the show - shots of Kelso laughing - that happens in every episode.
Jackie's dream inspired by "Wizard of Oz"
Verdict: Nostalgic, hilarious, warm and truly groovy show.
What makes it so great? The hilarious characters, dialogues and tons of fun references. The oatmeal prank episode is one of the very few things I saw on TV that made me cry because I was laughing so hard.
Whom you may recognize: Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace, Mila Kunis and in guest appearances Brooke Shields and Amy Adams.
Who's behind it? The creators of "Saturday Night Live"
Who will like it? Fans of all things from 70's and good comedy shows.
When and where? All 8 seasons are available on DVD. But there are only few good episodes in season 8 - it's still worth watching, but it's noticeably worse than the rest of the show.

  1. I love that show. It's one of my favorites of the late 90s and 2000s. It was great although it kind of stumbles in the 7th season. The eighth season however, was a disaster. That Randy character fucking sucked. Plus, I didn't care for Fez and Jackie to be together. I wanted her and Hyde to get back together. I found them to be more interesting.

    1. Randy was the worst! But I still watched for Kitty and Red :)

  2. I've recently started watching this show because of the reruns that are being played here in the afternoons....oh my god, so hilarious! Red and Kitty are by far my favourites, they never fail to make me laugh. Haven't gotten up to season eight yet, but I know about the whole Jackie and Fez thing. Goddammit, she needs to be with Hyde!
