Screaming Sunday - Slither

Sati's movie rating - 65/100
Plot: This blend of black humour and unnerving horror, with its nineteen fifties parodies pays homage to the great B-Movie Sci-Fi genre. Set in modern small town America, when an unsuspecting meteorite drops by and its tiny slug shaped parasitic pilot infects the local inhabitants, then all hell breaks lose, literally. Turning their infected hosts into Zombie type aliens, this is a battle of the fittest, this is the battle to save Mankind, this is pure B-Movie magic. Let the hunt begin.
The heroes: The small town folk.
The antagonists: Bugs from outer space.
What makes it so great? The unique blend of gross and hilarious. The film is filled with quirky and funny (Shelby!) characters who have to find it in them to survive when the town gets infested with awful and hungry bugs.
Best scene: The haunt in the field.
Oh-oh something's not right line: "It's just a bee sting."
Morbid trivia: Dangled above the street at the beginning of the film and on stage later at the Deer Cheer celebration you can see "Henenlotter's Saddle Lodge presents Deer Cheer" signage, a clear reference to cult horror writer/director Frank Henenlotter, famed creator of Basket Case and Brain Damage.
Scare factor: - 2/5 evil pumpkins - some jump scares and many unsettling situations.
Gore factor: - 5/5 bloody Leatherfaces - This is one gross movie and this comes from the person who eats dinner watching "Bones".
Is there a twist? No.
Hint: Don't eat during or before seeing this one.
Unsuitable for: Squeamish people.
Repercussions: Fear of taking a bath. Fear of your spouse. Fear of your family.

  6. Not sure I can get down with slithery things :) Granted I have a pretty strong constitution when watching gore, etc. It is just that slithery things sometimes throw me a bit off. But I do like bad horror film.

Maybe I will catch this someday …

  7. I surprisingly liked this film more than many horror films I've seen and that was because of the comedy. I loved the Mayor and his deadpan comments. If you've still got the DVD (if you ever had it) you have to watch the extras with Nathan Fillion in them. He's a riot.
