Saturday TV Special: Favorite supporting characters and guest appearances in TV series.

There are certain characters in TV series that when they are on screen, they bring something new with them. Whether it is their own doing or the fantastic interactions with other cast members, certain actors bring in so much unforgettable moments of sheer excellence that without them the show just doesn't feel as good.

While some of my favorite actors brought in some fantastic guest appearances in TV series - Michael Fassbender being seductive and mischievous dark angel in Hex, Idris Elba as no-nonsense new boss in The Office (pure gold just for his line "I'm aware of the effect I have on women") and Rob Lowe as Brad Pitt-inspired actor in Californication, their performances while great, didn't really raise the series to whole new level for me.

Here is my list of favorite supporting characters - whether you see them just in quick scenes, it's recurring guest appearance or whole story arc where they appear in continuous string of episodes - I loved their work so much that If I rewatch certain episodes I always chose the ones that feature them.

  1. Ah I love Rob Lowe, he's super funny in Parks and Rec. His guest appearance in Californication was good but you're right, it didn't add anything meaningful to the show, it was just a nice moment. I can't wait for the sixth season, it's one of my favorite shows ever.

I haven't watched most of the appearances you mentioned, sadly. But Ginger is certainly memorable!

    1. Rob Lowe is awesome, I love his character in Parks and Rec almost made my favorite characters list. He's absolutely adorable and I love the ways Chris fights with depression :)

I haven't seen latest season of Californication yet, but I definetly will, really like the show a lot, even its weaker seasons.

  2. What gorgeous graphics you made for the post, wow I was distracted admiring them that I had to go back to actually read 'em, ha..ha..

I totally agree about Janice, she's annoying as heck but you definitely remember her!

    1. I was worried it was a bit too much, but i was halfway through so I kept going, glad you liked them!

Janice is just amazing :) Also - I love how Joey reacts to her :)

  3. You did a fantastic job with these photos! I love the character descriptions and quotes. I don't watch much T.V. (between books, internet and movies, I don't have time for any more addictions ;-)) -- among the movies on this list, I'm only familiar with True Blood and Friends. Janice was terrific -- good hearted and obnoxious in equal measure, with dependably outrageous fashion choices. I've always been curious about the series Six Feet Under, and Patricia Clarkson is terrific.

    1. Thank you! For me TV comes first for some strange reasons. i love books and I insanely love cinema but TV series...they are just so addictive. And there are so many awesome tv series out there, plus some of my favorite actors just insist on guest starring so I always check out, then I like the show and bang - I have to watch all episodes. Her fashion choices were awesome. And that hair! Six Feet Under is fantastic, definetly worth seeing. Maybe not the best, but most important series HBO has ever done.

  4. First of all, Do people sound like a broken record to you when they keep on telling you how amazing your site looks, how great is the design and those pictures ?? :)

Haven't seen much of what you listed above but Janice and her O MY GOD is beyond Epic and off course, Ruth Wilson is outstanding.

    1. No, it's always great to read :) sometimes I just keep editing photos until I'm certain I went too far but when people like it it's just awesome to read.

Oh My God is so simple, but her delivery made into one of the most hilarious phrases in Friends.

  5. I love the Goth kids. That line about Chutulu's arrival will be like having a never-ending Nine Inch Nails concert floored me as I am a huge NIN fan.

Plus, I loved that episode in how they destroyed the Hot Topics. I despise that place. It's just uncool.

    1. That was awesome, loved that whole trilogy because Goth kids were in it, but Ungroundable was just legendary. I loved HoT Topic destruction and fake goth music in the background :)

  6. Ahh Janice! Never failed to love her whenever she was onscreen.

Ginger in True Blood is hilarious! Seriously hilarious. She's not been in it enough this season.

(And the time spent on this post has been totally worth it!)

    1. Thanks! Yeah it seems there was really little of Ginger this season :( But I'm still only on episode 5x03, I'm not loving this season so far.

    3. I really don't feel like watching more of it, it just lost its charm for me. Too many storylines and useless characters.

  7. Great photos as usual. You can easily work at a magazine!

I only recognize Janice here. Shows that my TV knowledge is rather lacking.

You should check out The Office, especially earlier seasons are hilarious.

    1. Thanks! Damn, I really thought more people watched Dexter and it seems that there is only a handful of those who did among bloggers I read.

  10. Janice (Oh...My...God) and Ginger (True Blood) for the win! I haven't seen most of the shows on your lists, but I hope I will catch up with them soon! I really really need to see Downton Abbey soon, Maggie Smith seems to be perfect, from what I have heard!

  11. I love that you have Toby and Creed from The Office: An American Work Place on here! It's my favourite programme, tied with Parks and Recreation although many of my fellow Brits would probably be ashamed of me for not liking the original The Office better!

    1. The Office and Parks and Rec are really qute similiar, I actually prefer US Office to UK as well, though I must say ever since Carrel left the show is really losing its quality and wit, fast.
