(39) Harlequinade + links

By Sati. Saturday, August 11, 2012
  • I've been watching a lot of Batman: The Animated Series lately and it's really such a shame Harley didn't make it into Nolanverse. I absolutely adore her, especially when she is hugging everyone around her without warning. And she tricked Batman on many occasions!
  • I've reached season 3 of Breaking Bad and the season 2 finale was absolutely heartbreaking. It was almost like Butterfly Effect when one death can have such a profound effect on people and actually bring in hundreds more deaths. To be quite honest, I think Walter White is a great character but after seeing him just walking around without much remorse after this whole thing I can't say I feel any sympathy for the guy. And Skyler is still a bitch. Taking a newborn away from her father who is your husband, who is incidentally sick with cancer because he found a way to pay for his own treatment is such a shit thing to do. I really don't understand why Walter won't kick her bitchy ass out on the street. Also that fucking Teddy Bear. It was one of the most disturbing things I've seen, so creepy! Read this article - just fascinating. Also as a huge fan of TV on the Radio I love the way they used DLZ on the show. Such a fantastic moment.
  • I finished season 3 of The Wire and episode 11 just broke my heart. It was horrible! To quote Joe Pesci in Casino - "You motherfuckers, you!"
  • Lana Del Rey's pictures for British Vogue are absolutely beautiful.
  • How does everyone like new pop artsy pictures in the reviews? Well, so far it's only one review, but there will be more next week. The number in the first photo is the score out of 100, in case anyone was wondering. It takes a lot of time to make, but at least I got to use more screencaps this way.
  • What is up with The Master posters? The trailers are great but these posters are just awful.
  • Speaking of awful I finally finished watching In the Bedroom and it's been a long time since I saw such chaotic, boring, misguided and pretentious film. It was so horrible - the story was completely not engaging, the main characters - grieving parents - had no redeeming qualities and the best character in the film was almost completely dropped in second hour. And that shit got 5 Oscar nods. Outrage.
  • Trouble with the Curve trailer is out and it features Clint Eastwood, John Goodman, Justin I-can't-act-for-shit Timberlake and most importantly Amy Adams. How gorgeous is she?
  • Anne Hathaway is so cute:

  • I really, really, REALLY want to see Killer Joe.
  • Apparently Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are dating. I think he traded up, though she could do much better. But how funny is it that Kelso and Jackie are together in real life after all this time.
  • Also that Esquire article. Jesus Christ. They should put some sort of warning on the cover like "Hey, salivation highly possible btw avoid our website cause we have VIDEOS there". Yep, I didn't avoid it.
  • Gustav is going through rebellious stage and he is basically behaving like Johnny Depp in the 90's except instead of trashing hotel rooms he is trashing his bed and taking away blankets and hiding them all over the house. He also bites carpets. After all of that he is so tired he basically hides under the table and sleeps there and when you try to move him he kicks. That little guy has much more energy than I do.
  • The news broke yesterday that Saoirse Ronan will play the main character in Mary, Queen of Scots. This is outstanding.
  • There may be fewer updates on the blog up till 11 September, as this is when I'm retaking my exam and I still haven't started learning. Hopefully second time will be the charm.
  • There are 2 things though that make me excited - new seasons of Boardwalk Empire and The Thick of It, which are two of my favorite TV series. I really can't wait for them, especially The Thick of It, since I saw all the episodes so many times I practically know the show by heart.
links:
  • Alex Thomas and Trevor review Bernie, which I will try to see this weekend.
  • Andina wrote an awesome post about fashion in Take This Waltz
  • Tippi didn't like Total Recall. I may still see this one though. Shirtless Farrel and gorgeous Beckinsale are good enough of a reason, right? There is also a great double review of the film over at FlixChatter
  • Mark reviews Brave, which hopefully I'll get to see this month
  • Jaina shares some gorgeous pictures she took during her holidays
  • Diana reviews The Dark Knight Rises
  • Alex writes about his favorite performances of the amazing Philip Seymour Hoffman
  • MettelRay writes about Brad Pitt's movies
  • Dan reviews Killer Joe which I cannot wait to see.
  • m. brown has another fantastic review - this time he writes about Friends with Kids with his usual sense of humour
I'm 100% certain this is the face DiCaprio made when he heard The Great Gatsby is postponed until summer 2013.

  1. Well get on with it motherfu... *bang bang bang*

After all your recent weekly posts featuring him, I was waiting to hear your reaction to that scene.

    1. It was just awful, I mean he was so close to getting out and then that was it.

  3. Although her character can stand by herself, people still associate Harley Quinn with The Joker. If Heath Ledger was still alive, Joker + Harley vs Batman + Catwoman would have been a very interesting storyline to look forward to.

Keep the photos coming, no matter what the style. They always turn out great.

    1. Oh absolutely, I loved all the scenes Harley had alone. I think if The Joker and Harley went against those two, the Bat and Kitty would have a hard time defeating them :)

      Thank you so much!

  5. I love the pop art twist on the reviews, I'm sure it does take a lot of time, but design wise it's worth it!

I love Hathaway's new look, it's so cute! And that hair looked like a pain in the ass to style! The Master poster was clearly trying to be something cool and artsy, but failed miserably.

Oh I can't wait for all new Boardwalk though damn... Jimmy's dead. Maybe flashbacks...? Please, Marty!

    1. Thank you!

She looks really nice, she has great hair and the color really suits her, didn't really like her as blonde near the end of Brokeback Mountain. Yeah, I'm surprised so many people love it, the design is really not good.

Hopefully, BE does quite a bit of flashbacks so I'm sure we will get to see him again.

  6. Haha poor Leo.
I thought of the Kelso and Jackie thing too :P
    Anne Hathaway is adorable.
I love the Esquire thing, minus Taylor Kitsch. WHY IS HE THERE?!
    Saoirse Ronan= Best.

    1. Yeah, I mean Kitsch wasn't terrible in Savages but other than that, what the hell is up with him in that article, he clearly doesn't belong in that group.

  7. Love Breaking Bad! Glad you are enjoying it. Season 3 is pretty good, but have to say Season 4 is my favourite so far.

That teddy is a freaky image isn't it? So clever how the writers tease you the bits of info for so long, then they finally reveal. Such an amazingly written show.

Yep, I love all of of those enigmatic bits in the beginnings of episodes.

Haha. Those Elba and DiCaprio pictures! :)
I'm a huge fan of In the Loop. I really should watch The Thick of It.
    Good luck on your exam!

Oh definetly, it will sound impossible but The Thick of It is actually even funnier than In the Loop.

  11. Ugh. That's the same face I made when I heard about the delay, too. But on the bright side, that's a couple more months of that fantastic trailer.

I am so with you on Killer Joe. It would involve an epic road trip at this point. Grrrr.

    Jackie and Kelso? Awesome.

As always, thanks for the link. Nice, sort of chatting with you yesterday...

    1. Yep, if only Tobey McGuire wasn't in that trailer....also it gives Dicaprio two strong contenders two years in a row in Oscar race, so it's not that bad.

Epic road trip may be worth it from what I'm reading about this one.

You're very welcome! Yep still trying to find the time to see that masterpiece that Ghost Rider 2 surely is :)

  12. Thanks for the link, Sati. Glad you loved it. I definitely want to post the category regularly :D

I love the images you put, but I'm just not a fan of too many textures.

I too think Mila Kunis and Aston Kutcher is a cute couple, agree that Mila could find better. it is pretty funny, how they were a couple on TV screen. I heard Ashton actually likes her back then but she was with macaulay culkin.

    1. You're welcome! Keep doing that series it's actually really inspirational!

Pop art thing actually requires me to put one, but yeah too many textures don't really make for good effects, sometimes you can't even see what the image is supposed to be.

That Macaulay Culkin thing...I will never understand what she was thinking :)

  14. I'm always so honored to get a linkage from you, Sati... especially in a post as gorgeous and fun as this! I LOVE that animated GIF of Idris, he's just so beautiful and so witty!! I know I sound like a broken record about this but I want to see him and Gerry Butler together again, those two make such an awesome combo!! Oh, and yeah, I'm excited for Saoirse Ronan as Mary, Queen of Scots, sooo talented. She's like a young Cate Blanchett.

Ah, so Batman: The Animated Series is where you got that new Twitter pic :)

  15. Weirdly enough have been watching the 90s Batman TV show too, and need to own it all on DVD, and stat! Surprised I don't at the moment.

Completely irrelevant, but here are some figures you might be interested in! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B004XVK11K/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_2?ie=UTF8&index=2&isremote=0 Planning to get the Catwoman one, myself...

I REALLY think you'll like Killer Joe.

    And thanks for the link!!

Also, minor typo in your Joe Pesci quote, it should be "You muderfuckers, you." Haha, love his accent in that.

    1. His life is actually more eventful than mine :) That would be depressing but watching him and his adventures is so much more fun than my usual activities.

I think this may be the only film that beats TDKR for me.

You're welcome, I thought you are promoting Earrings and partying hard or something haven't been around here for so long! :)

Haha, everything he says and the way he says it cracks me up.

  17. I have also been digging Batman: The Animated Series lately. I'm probably five or six episodes deep in season one. Good stuff so far -- love the Noir influences.

Sounds like we had a similar reaction to that episode of The Wire. I was warned not to get attached to many of the characters, but DAMN. That was still unexpected.

Also loved the use of "DLZ" in Breaking Bad. Their music choices are always inspired.

    1. Season 1 is great but there are many awesome ones in season 2 and 3 and New Adventures of Batman. I think season 2 is my favorite.

Yeah, I don't even like many characters on the show, McNulty is kinda despicable, the only ones I like apart from Stringer are Lester and McNulty's ex partner, damn the names always escape me when the show has this many characters :)
