Soundtrack Wednesday - Game of Thrones 4

There is one good thing from Thrones season coming to an end - the soundtrack is getting released. Which means that I now have enough to listen to all year long (seriously). The show has its ups and downs (it is only now that I can laugh about how they screwed up last Sunday's episode) but one thing is certain - that Ramin Djawadi will knock it out of the park with his music each time.

I only wish each year they actually released complete score with all the music used in the season - we didn't get Oberyn's theme, the music from his offer to Tyrion, Sansa's escape music or that cheerful rendition of The Beat and the Maiden Fair they always play at the weddings.

I'm gonna share some of my favorite tracks with you and all the screencaps in this post are from finale episode to get you hyped:
My definee favorite is Oathkeeper. First there is the title - it's extraordinarily clever and significant as it doesn't refer merely to the sword. Second, the last minute of the track is hands down my favorite moment of this year's score. There is still so much doubt and confusion about whether or not my most anticipated scene made it into the show but it seems to me this is the track to play it over. I just hope the last minute is not end credits but the actual scene. They wasted the best part of Mhysa track on end credits last year, I hope they won't do that again.
My second favorite is The Watchers on the Wall. Can they still use it please? It played during that 'ending' in ep.9 but fuck the beginning of it would suit the next time we see....something really cool.

Then there is The Children which is so lovely and happy and makes me think it will be used in Bran's big scene.

Breaker of Chains is another amazing track, I think it accompanies Daenerys' final scene this season
And then there is First of His Name played during Tommen's coronation and in later part at the end of trial by combat:

Game of Thrones returns with finale entitled The Children this Sunday

  1. I get my Thrones soundtrack fix from the music in your blog! Only time ever I let blogs tell me what to listen.

Last episode had SUCH amazing music. It fit so well to the scenes, I was so impressed, and I'm usually invested into other things so much that I don't notice the music when watching Thrones. Here it really worked. Knowing what LS is, I already think Oathkeeper is so great, I can't wait to see that scene!

PS. I pray to god Dany just gets a few lines and we're saved from more phantom dick whining. Especially if they pushed the ending to 4x09 to the finale.

    1. Come to think of it, the music was the best part of last episode. Let's hope that scene is actually in, who knows what they will do. Never forget - it's always possible they'll end with Dany again :/

  2. Awesome post. I've been listening to this soundtrack pretty much all day yesterday and today so far.

    1. Same here! I know Lana's new album is out so I need to stop with GoT listening at least for a moment.

  3. Not that it matters, but you missed mentioning that First of His Name was played during the scene in the Great Sept where Joffrey and Margery got married and at the end of the episode (how can I forget, I watched the episode like 8 or 9 times, but seriously, I did).
If they end with Dany again I will be sooooo outraged. I like Daenerys, but I'd want her to stay just a character, not THE character because I'll never worry about her future again.
The Children is going to be an awesome episode I believe - it probably refers to Tywin's children (hell, Cersei will actually confront Tywin according to the episode's promo), the Children of the Forest (hope'll finally see them) and Danny's dragons. Good thing I am loaded with homework to keep myself invested in something else.

    1. Ah yes indeed it was. Such a great track.

Daenerys' story arc this season is such a disappointing and boring development and it won't get much better in season 5 :/

Yeah it's referring to many children in the series, also most of the Stark kids :)

  4. This soundtrack is really great, I was listening to it yesterday. Must say I loved Rains of Castamere by Sigur Ros, it sounds amazing, very haunting version. It didn't sound this good on the show.

    1. Love your new avatar! It does sound better on the soundtrack indeed. Such brilliant work with this album, I wish more tracks were included, though

    2. Thanks! I had to change it because I'm so furious after episode 9 and the possibility for the season ending with Dany or anything else in fact than Lady Stoneheart (and Dany is dumb as f*ck now, haha). #neverendingloveforoberyn
I agree with you, can't understand why they couldn't realese all tracks.

    3. I'd seriously pay them like 50 bucks if they did. I've been listening to Oathkeeper so much I literally had no time to even check out new Lana Del Rey album.
