(304) Unf**k this mess + links

By Sati. Friday, September 15, 2017
  • Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape of Water is slowly emerging as our Best Picture Oscar frontrunner this year. The film has just won Golden Lion in Venice. Del Toro is campaigning hard for that Oscar and the great new trailer for the film was just released. "Son, unfuck this mess" is already one of my favorite lines of the year.
  • Let's not waste time on me this week. Or you know, ever again. Everything is terrible and I pretty much only stay alive to see all those films I'm waiting for. I'm not gonna sugarcode it. It is what it is. I'm done thinking it will ever get better. It's not. History proves that.
  • Boo boo's inability to close his legs because, clearly, his penis is too big is quite literally the only thing that makes me smile left in the world.
  • Shameless sharing pictures of him ventilating his crotch like that.
  • He should just whip it out. It would save the electricity. And possibly end the world and wouldn't that just be the best.
  • Hugh is still promoting Logan beautifully. TIFF and Venice movies brought with them Best Actor candidates dropping like flies and all of this just makes me even more angry about Logan not being released in the Oscar season.
  • On the upside, the word is Kingsman 2 is great. I hope it does well in Box Office and Vaugh sets the third one in Australia reuniting Taron with Hugh. I think we all agree I deserve to see Hugh in a suit shooting people. I think we all even more strongly agree he needs to be shirtless and I deserve, need and have to witness that.
  • We lost Len Wein, the man who created Wolverine.
  • Jared Leto went method again. I must admit the level of either obliviousness or disregard to how much he is coming off as a laughing stock is really astounding. I mean you would think after becoming the subject of ridicule because of his Suicide Squad antics the last thing he would do is something that will make him the target again, but hell no.
  • He is a very talented guy and he is super hot and you gotta admire the Jaredconda but Jesus, what is he doing? It's getting to the point where you can't help but laugh when people wonder if, if he ever plays a ghost, will he actually kill himself?
  • But for me it's not Leto who is the story here. Denis Villeneuve straight up went full retard:
  • I always think those directors are smart until proven otherwise. Villeneuve made Enemy and Sicario so I am shocked to see that quote. I understand backing your actors but there is a big difference between doing that and comparing Leto acting moronic to "Jesus walking into a temple".
  • And by the way, I am so looking forward to Jared wearying one of those horrific Gucci rags for the premiere next month and Harrison Ford looking absolutely repulsed by it.
  • Meanwhile, Harrison shares more details about that time he punched Ryan. Yeah. Unless it's in a comedy, Gosling's face is never where it should be.
  • September brought a lot of news from Venice and TIFF. mother! opened to quite the reception in Venice receiving both boos and the applause and to much better reception in Toronto. The film is gonna get massacred by It in the box office but it is getting pretty great reviews. While I still think Jennifer Lawrence is annoying I will say that I watched the live stream from London premiere and the speed and graciousness with which she was signing autographs and posing for selfies with fans was really admirable. Also it pisses me off to no end to read the reviews from 'professional' reviewers accusing Aronofsky of having huge ego because he cast his own girlfriend in the lead role. They only began dating during the shoot. Why can't these people do research?
  • Here's Jennifer and Darren together on NYC premiere of the movie. I really like her dress there.
  • The Disaster Artist received a massive standing ovation. James Franco may actually be nominated for Oscar for his performance.Yep, my boo boo will get nothing but Franco gets nominated. I don't hate this, since Franco is a pretty good actor and it looks like he delivered really awesome performance there. The film looks crazy fun. Here's new trailer for it.
  • Word is Sam Rockwell may FINALLY get Oscar nomination for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
  • A film that really surprised with excellent reviews is I, Tonya with Margot Robbie starring as Tonya Harding. Apparently Margot is fantastic in the role and Alison Janney steals the show as her horrible mother. I read few reviews and the film sounds a lot like To Die For so I'm psyched. You may remember the behind the scenes pictures - with Robbie looking a mess and Sebastian Stan looking like he has windowless van parked somewhere
  • So I saw IT and while it's a fine movie it's overhyped as hell. I thought it was like two movies jammed into 2 hours. One was a tense horror and another was kids hanging out during summer. That in itself not mixing well was not as big of a problem as the episodic feel of all of it. A scene where one kid meets the clown, then another kid meets the clown, then another. Also the monster didn't feel this difficult to defeat in the end.  I was not surprised that the direction here wasn't very good, it's the director of Mama after all. A shame because there were plenty of better horror movies than this deserving of the success it is getting.
  • Chastain is thirsty for a role of Beverly in Chapter 2. Well obviously since she is Mrs. Flop and this is clearly going to be successful. She was in Mama so I assume the 'I know her' will prevail over reason. Come on, this one as Beverly? This is actually the first time in the history where Amy Adams would be good casting. And Sophia Lills plays the younger version of Adams' character (where she is horrifically miscast) in Sharp Objects. Adams at least has warmth to her. Chastain is like human refrigerator.
  • Claire Foy is going to play Lisbeth Salander in that reboot/sequel/whatever thingy. She is a good actress but this whole thing is just so damn stupid. We had perfect cast and director in place.
  • I can't believe this situation. Not the stalking, just that someone would actually stalk Eddie Redmayne
  • Fassbender and Vikander are reportedly marrying and I sit here, stunned that they are for real. She's so tiny. Must be like climbing on a hill. With your vagina.
  • Twin Peaks finale was great even if I only understood 10% of it. David Lynch just straight up trolled everybody. People will be wondering about what happened in that last two episodes forever. Meanwhile, Lynch shared Blu Ray release date and fairly terrible cover art. It does say third season not The Return, so maybe the end wasn't the end after all?

    1. I'm not sure I've ever been on the fence about seeing a movie or not as much as I am with mother!. Some people have been spoiling scenes on tumblr, and I'm a just little bit too old or tired from 'endurance test' movies. Five years ago I would've been on board... but I might at least wait to see it at home where I can pass out in peace. :/ Looking forward to your review when you get to see it. :D

That smile of Hugh's just lights up the world. He is too pure for us.

Super excited about I Tonya and the hype for Margot!

      1. I am going to the cinema. If I die...well that's not bad. Unless someone tells me there is a porn movie starring Hugh on the horizon I have literally nothing to lose. Endurance tests, bring those on.

He is such a gift <3

Margot is gonna campaign her ass off. I'll be shocked if she won't end up getting nominated

    3. Jared seems to take his thing a little too seriously. It's making method acting uncool now. It's now a gimmick. Thanks a lot.

I'm happy for Guillermo winning the Golden Lion as I hope he gets his Best Director Oscar as I will be screaming GUILLERMITO!!!!!!!

I'm planning to see mother! this weekend and maybe another film as well.

      1. It now looks that Guillermo may be losing a bit of stream and that Three Billboards movie just won with TSOW in Toronto...in BP/BD split I think it's more likely Nolan would win director over Del Toro

    4. Boooooooooooo It is not overrated, it was exactly what I wanted it to be. lol

I will lol so hard if Franco gets an Oscar nomination for the Disaster Artist.

Rockwell is way overdue for a nom.

There's so many movies I'm looking forward to within the next few months its insane. I'm glad Oscar season is here.

Claire Foy is so wrong for Lisbeth. She's a great actress, I think she deserves an Emmy for The Crown, but she's not going to get to the level Rooney Mara did, and this is coming from someone who didn't even like those movies.

I always think of you when I see Vikander/Fassbender articles. You and I were both so sure they were that blind item about a management made relationship and here they are, still going strong. lol

I'm glad you're back. Thanks for the link!

      1. A choppy mess?:D

Rooney is actually someone I dislike usually and she managed to do wonders with Lisbeth so I'm not sure Foy cannot do something good there, the trouble is this whole project is misguided and it just reeks of the studio not wanting to give Fincher the money he wants

I still don't believe Vikander and Fassbender thing. It just makes no sense lol

    5. It's going to take time, a lot of time, but I'm sure you'll get better. I'm glad you're back with your wonderful posts.

I still haven't seen It (it's on theaters next Thursday in Italy) but I'm reading the book at the moment and from what you said, the movie just sounds like the book. I think I'm going to like it.

I don't know where I've been living but I had no idea Fassy and Alicia were getting married. God, what I'd do to be in her place.

      Thanks for the link!

    7. lol at that cat photo, so true. Super excited for Kingsman! I saw It's trailer today, decided to pass - I'll watch it at home.

Lynch definitely trolled us, it was so fucking weird. I loved it too, though. MacLachlan should get an award for his performance.

      1. Kyle was fantastic, the entire cast was really incredible and it's such a miracle Lynch assembled all of them back. I also really like the new additions even if some of the plots went nowhere, they still added so much to the atmopshere

    9. I saw Mother and it was pretty much as batshit crazy as you'd expect. My mother used to be a nurse at a psych ward and she said it was like being inside a schizophrenic's head. Looking forward to seeing what you think!

      1. That cat tweet was one of the funniest things I've seen in a very long time. The idea of that disparaging dogs rant written by it made me laugh so hard

    11. I can barely decide which I preferred out of Three Billboards and The Shape of Water - both so great, it's going to be a strong year - particularly for female actors.

      1. I can't wait for those two, especially Three Billboards. I love In Bruges, it's somewhere in my top 50 of all time

    12. p.s. Rockwell NEEDS to get an Oscar nom for that performance and so far he's the winner. It's an astonishing performance, a really tough one. Frances is great in the movie, and he's still the one to watch.

      1. I adore Rockwell. I loved his work in everything I saw him in and that includes stuff like Charlie's Angels and Iron Man 2. The man always delivers.

    13. Oh my God did I laugh when I saw that tweet about Leto literally changing the Earth's rotation with his Blade Runner audition. What the f--k is DV thinking? Is he a master of deadpan comedy? Or just a f--king goofball? I imagine Harrison Ford punched Gosling in the face immediately after being told what DV said.

I went to a screening of A Most Violent Year and one of the producers told us a story about how Chastain ended up in that movie...and it was kind of...sad? Like, she just literally demanded that she be cast in that movie, and wouldn't take no for an answer. I wonder if she's going to pull the same maneuver for playing Beverly in Chapter 2? (I'm worried that the Mama reunion will cause me to f--king implode due to anger).

      Thanks for the link!!!!

I'm f--king thrilled to have you back.

      1. I think maybe Leto's cologne gives off some sort of hallucinogenic scent or something? That people get high? Or there is something in the water on that set. They are coming off batshit, all of them.

Her bossiness is so annoying. And she just seems so frigid and stiff. She was just like that in A Most Violent Year, just such a cringe worthy performance.

Yeah if she is in that, blue moths everywhere.

    14. The Shape of Water looks interesting and I'm always game for Shannon, he and Rockwell are two very underrated actors who keep delivering great performances but nobody seems to recognise the talent. Also, so happy for Rockwell if he gets a nomination! An Franco as well.

I liked It more than you did I guess but I think the fact that I just recently read the book was why I felt a bit more connected to the characters. I also don't really watch horror movies so to get one that has so much humour in it, is good for someone like me. Plus, I liked the kid's performances!

PS: I ended up not liking Kingsman that much..... even Taron couldn't save it from the mess it was. :(

    15. Really excited for a lot of the movies you mentioned here. The Shape of Water, Three Billboards, I, Tonya, and The Disaster Artist… I’m so stunned by the praise for that one, but I’m hopeful. And yeah, that Twin Peaks finale was insane! Need to watch it again actually.

    16. That tweet at the end is gold!

Great to see you back sati =]

I'm reading a lot of people (ie: morons) who are ripping on mother! because its too in depth. "I just want to be entertained, not watch 2 hours of a director massaging his ego!"

      God people are fucking stupid.

      The jaredconda, lol.
