Visual Parallels: Wonder Woman + Captain America: The First Avenger
Both Wonder Woman ad Captain America are the most idealistic heroes in their respective universes, DCEU and MCU. Heroic, noble, compassionate and always ready to fight for the innocent in peril. While Captain America: The First Avenger is a relatively modest movie comparing to other films in MCU, Wonder Woman is so far DCEU's crowning - or only - achievement.
Both films are set during a World War, with the protagonist fighting the villains closely linked to the bloodshed that happened in our history. Both films jump to present time in beginning and in the end to show our hero ready to fight in modern world. Both protagonists are aided by an "ordinary" human character who, while not a half god or someone enhancement by miraculous serum, possesses incredible courage and strength. And finally, both have moving romance subplot that doesn't end in happy ending, in sequences that mirror each other very closely.

Wow, that would be a hell of a double feature. I enjoyed both of those films. My mother loves Wonder Woman as she enjoyed the time period as well as the scenes in Themyscira and Wonder Woman herself. I think my dad would like Captain America: The First Avenger as I enjoyed the hell out of it as it has this old-school feel. It was made by the same guy who did The Rocketeer back in 1991 as it's a film I enjoyed and felt it was underrated and still is underrated.
ReplyDeleteYeah TFA has very old school feel. It definitely stands out in MCU
DeleteTHIS IS SO GOOD. SO SO GOOD. I recognized similarities mostly with the ending, but you did a great job with the rest of the movie. Two of my favorite movies having so much in common makes me a very happy fangirl. lol AND THE SCREENCAPS OF CAP *APPLAUSE GIF*.
ReplyDeleteIt was a long process to make this post. Kept fainting when working with those screencaps :P
DeleteFantastic post. I really loved the Diana and Peggy standing out in the crowd comparison.
ReplyDeleteI really think the First Avenger is the most underrated Marvel film. It's really good and both Evans and Atwell are lovely in it. Wonder Woman is obviously awesome.
I like TFA but it's just so modest. Evans and Atwell are wonderful but the film is not on par with their efforts. I don't know, there's just something too subdued about it.
DeleteOh, wow. This is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how coherent any of what I say is going to be, as you've not only filled my screen with Gal Gadot, but then you've thrown in Hayley Altwell, too. It's impressive I've made it this far.
As for the post, it's quite lovely. These two are easily the most honorable in their respective universes, and I love how their films so clearly capture that. The dress stills are probably my favorite, but I think the pair that encapsulates the whole idea best? Each lead surrounded by happy masses.
That's just perfect.
Thank you! I knew you will appreciate these two lovely ladies :)
DeleteOH MY GOD THIS IS SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S JUST CHRIS EVANS' FACE ACCOMPLISHING THAT
Deletebrilliant post. your images tell the stories both so well! your posts make me want to pay more attention when watching a movie each time! happy tuesday, sati.
ReplyDeleteI have this bizarre memory when it comes to images. It can be a curse lol
DeleteThis is perfect! I know I say this about all your visual parallel posts but that just shows there's perfection in all of them!
ReplyDeleteI like how rare these posts are too, sort of makes the wait all worth it to see something this great. Also, these are like two of my favourites among superhero movies. Cap is my favourite trilogy in Marvel, WS being my favourite favourite.
I like how the how the characters can be swapped like you did here, because this means the duos in both movies are equal! I love that about these movies, that one can't really succeed without the other, even though one is just a human and the other is part God. Because Cap is Chris and he is part God.
Looking forward for your next one, I know it's coming soonish!! :)
They're rare because my perving and working takes too much time :) I think he might be more than part God :) Like maybe he fell from Heaven or something. I need to stop typing lol
DeleteGreat post! I love the shot of Gal and Haley in their beautiful dresses.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yeah that one I didn't catch initially and then I went 'oh my God, it's the same scene!' :P
DeleteAwesome post, Sati. I always knew these movies were similar, but it's pretty cool seeing just how many shots were so close to one another.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was fun making that one, also really easy :)
DeleteI don't know how you do this but it is fucking amazing, every one you have done. I don't know what to say, its just fucking awesome. Sati rules!! :D :D
ReplyDeleteThank you :) The next one should be at the end of the month
Deleteooo any hints as to what it'll be?? I love these ones, even tho these are two movies I didn't give a shit about! My fave was the Neon Demon/Black Swan one. i think that was it. Now that I say that I realise I have only seen Black Swan once!!! shame on me
DeleteSolaris remake and Anihilation but I need to find the time to rewatch them
DeleteYes! My favorite blog series is back! Loved admiring your work here. You matched the narrative parallels with the visual ones so perfectly. Great, great work. And I cannot WAIT for the Solaris/Annihilation parallels.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It may be a while I need to find the time to watch both of these and they are not exactly easy movies to watch :)
DeleteSO glad you're back with Visual Parallels. These look great as always and yep, definitely watching Captain America ASAP. 😂
ReplyDeleteChris Evans is not of this world. I never forgot when I randomly caught him on Fallon. I don't remember the interview at all, just thinking no one has ever looked that good on that couch.
I know, right? Especially with a beard. It's almost cruel :P
DeleteWonder Woman and Captain America are both awesome superheroes
ReplyDelete💛❤️💙
Awesome parallels! They are like the perfect superheroes!
