Screaming Sunday - Ready or Not

Movie rating: 93/100
Plot:  A bride's wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.
The heroes: One very unlucky but brave and capable bride.
The antagonists: Her in-laws.
Best scene: The ending.
Oh-oh something's not right line: You'll have to hide better than that.
What makes it so great? Boy, between this, Us and Parasite the rich are really getting quite the beating this year, huh? This is the most entertaining and creative horror film since The Cabin in the Woods and the most surprising horror script since Get Out. It's hilarious, twisted and so much fun. At 90 minutes run time it's a really engaging movie and Samara Weaving's Grace is a fantastic heroine - resourceful, brave, funny and relatable.

It's also so great to see Andie MacDowell playing against the type and Henry Czenry here. Brian Tyler's score is just terrific and the cinematography, the costumes and production design are lovely. The film has so many laughs and twists in store, it's definitely one of the year's most entertaining and crowd pleasing films. Also - what the fuck is wrong with people? Why does nobody follow the rule of the groom not seeing the bride before the weeding?! Everyone knows it's bad luck!
Scare factor:  - 2/5 evil pumpkins - there are not many jump scares and the ones that  happen usually end with something funny. It's a dark comedy in a way, but Grace whom we relate to and root for is always in danger so that provides a lot of tension.
Gore factor:- 4/5 bloody Leatherfaces - That fucking nail! There's a gnarly moment featuring one in here. There's a lot of gore in this one.
Is there a twist? Yes and it's a pretty great one. There's also plenty of smaller twists along the way.
Unsuitable for: People who are about to get married or meet their new in-laws.
Repercussions: Fear of games. Fear of fences. Fear of nails. Fear of your partner's family.

  4. This sounds really good, I keep seeing great reviews for it. Not usually my cup of tea, but it doesn't look to scary. Bonus points for Adam Brody being in it.
p.s. I still remember how Twitter was confusing Samara with Margot Robbie when it first came out

    1. No, it's not that scary! Some unpleasant gory moments here and there but it's really a lot of fun and won't give you nightmares :)

Reddit/movies discussion thread has so many people saying they were surprised it wasn't Margot Robbie :)

  6. Totally DID NOT deserve the August dump, and I'm with everyone who thinks this would have killed in October.

That f--king nailllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll. I can't even handle thinking about that shit...but at least a little prick kid got punched in his face.

Yeah, I enjoyed that bit a little too much.

And, hey...that first picture? AMAZING. (rowr)

  7. The whole scene in the barn where she punched the brat and then let loose the rant at the asshole that stopped and then took off... that was the point where I was like I love her and want her to win everything :)

Also some great Adam Brody moments in this!

  8. I freaking missed this in the theater because of a whole host of business. It didn't help that it was gone from our local theater in a flash.
