Michael Fassbender Appreciation

35 years ago a little boy was born. Today this boy is a man who went to become one of the fastest rising stars in Hollywood and one of the most magnetic and talented actors. He is Michael Fassbender. From his work in "Hunger" through his adventure with blockbusters in "300" and "X Men" to his courageous and haunting work in "Shame" he has become one of the most desired actors - his upcoming projects include Ridley Scott's Prometheus and "The Counsellor" which hopefully will bring Michael his first Oscar nod, if not more. And on his Birthday I figured I will do seven different things, each with 5 choices. 7x5 = 35.

5 best performances:
  • Shame
  • Hunger
  • Jane Eyre
  • X Men - First Class
  • Inglourious Basterds
5 best movie moments:
  • The opening moments of Shame in the subway
  • The conversation in Hunger
  • The scene in the pub in X Men - First Class
  • Rochester begs Jane to stay in Jane Eyre
  • Whenever he hugs the bear in a Bear Named Winnie
5  admirable or funny accomplishments:
  • Volpi Cup for Shame
  • Golden Globe nomination for Shame
  • The lack of Oscar nomination for his work in Shame caused outrage. In fact I don't think there are many people who saw the movie and wouldn't nominate him if it was up to them.
  • Being possibly the first actor being praised for his manhood by another actor, on stage, live, on Golden Globes ceremony.
  • His penis has a nickname given to it by people who saw Shame. Fassdong.
5 fun Fassy facts:
  • He has formed his own production company known as 'Peanut Productions'.
  • Whenever he got on a horse on a production of "Jane Eyre", the horse got an erection.
  • Fassbender (a variant of Fassbinder) - is the German for "cooper," a binder or repairer of casks and barrels.
  • "I remember my mom always complaining about that to me, saying, "This is such bullshit, it's always the women who are naked" ... so I did this one for you, Mom!"
  • Michael plays the guitar, piano, and accordion.

  1. YES! Love seeing all the love for ol' Fass. I must call out one gaping omission, and that is of his work in Fish Tank. If you haven't seen it, then you must, now. He does what Peter Sarsgaard did in An Education, only he does much much more effectively. A remarkable performance.

At any rate, thanks for bringing attention to him, and for doing it with so much style!

    1. I did see Fish Tank and it was tie with his performance there and in IB. However there is this moment in IB where when Nazi officer calls him on his bluff there is just this look on Fassbender's face filled with fear and acceptance. I did not remember anything that powerful from Fish Tank and what also didn't help was that I found the movie to be a pointless mess.

I think he already brought enough attention to himself, ever since he was in Inglourious Basterds my female friends would always ask who the hell was this handsome actor who ordered drinks the wrong way :)

Okay I'm done now. Wouldn't it have been perfect if I could see Shame today? He's such a brilliant actor, and oh so sexy. Make him Bond, oh cruel Hollywood!!!

    1. I think he's too good for Bond :) But if he was Bond and Dujardin was the vilain, I'd die :)

    2. Oh yes. I've been praying for that to happen. And I want it to be 60s-ish. Because you know, they don't men like *that* anymore.

  9. A very talented actor whose star is just starting to take flight. I wonder if in 20 years we'll be adding him to a best actors of all time list. It should be interesting what he does with a likely supporting role in Prometheus.

  11. Didn't realize he was in "300". My favorite performance of his is probably the bar scene in "Inglourious Basterds" or when he tried to move that satellite dish in "X-Men: First Class"

p/s: there was a problem with my internet connection so if this the second comment from me just delete the first

  12. Can't get enough of this man. It took the world long enough to finally recognize the phenomenally talented and sexy Fassbender.

    1. I was shocked he didn't get more awards for Hunger. Christian Bale loses some weight and bam! third time is the charm and gets Oscar. Fassbender does this and nothing. Not to mention he was just incredible despite the lack of dialogue.

  13. J'adore Michael Fassbender! The first time I trully noticed him was Hunger...or was it First Class? I don't remember honestly, but he is still amazing! My favorite performances are Jane Eyre, Shame and Hunger- perfect in all three! Also, pictures 2, 4 and 5 are to die for! *swoon*

    1. Oh these are lovely performances, although I think he is always exceptional even in utter shit like Blood Creek. He just has this intesity about him that kinda makes me think of Pacino but also something very delicate, maybe that's why I cried when he cried in Jane Eyre :)

  14. :) Excellent post, Sati. Funny, funny facts. this fact gave me immediate laugh : 'Whenever he got on a horse on a production of "Jane Eyre", the horse got an erection' Really??
I still haven't seen Shame and Hunger, but the actor is just..magnificent. My favorite actor from 2011. It all started when I watched Jane Eyre.

    1. Mia Wasikowska said that in an interview, apparantly entire crew had a good laugh whenver it happened :)

Shame and Hunger are excellent movies, but they are incredibly heavy so my advice would be watching them separetly.
