20th Annual SAG Awards

  • This is what happens when something magical occurs and tumblr gets creative.
  • Let's back up to the red carpet shall we? I haven't seen most of it but I did see a reporter confuse Alfre Woodard with Angela Bassett which was hilarious. I also saw how beautifully Game of Thrones was represented:
  • I'm loving how people like Gwendoline Christie are there this award season. So cool that even if they aren't nominated they get to celebrate, especially in her case - she is just flawless as Brienne. It's such a shame that Richard Madden and Michelle Fairley weren't there.
  • Peter Dinklage was there too, the only solo acting nominee of Thrones. Pedro Pascal who will debut his character in new season also showed up which was really cool
  • That's right. Natalie Dormer shaved her fucking head. No, not for double D's. It's for Hunger Games - Mockingjay. She is so badass, I love her!
  • Then Jared Leto flirted with Khaleesi. He is smooth.
  • During the ceremony Lupita Nyong'o won Best Supporting actress and delivered another lovely speech, singling out Brad Pitt who was there with the cute anecdote. What the fuck is with Pitt's hair? Is there a pic of him and Dormer together? If not, that's an opportunity missed.
  •  Lupita - talks about family, education and her work, Lawrence - talks about 'armpit vagina' on the red carpet. I don't need to comment, this speaks for itself.
  • I loved how they left 'bitch' in Julia Roberts' clip but they bleeped Leto's 'asshole'.
  • Leto won, obviously, and delivered a very rehearsed, dignified speech. I'm not a fan of speeches like that. Do something memorable - jerk off your award like Blanchett did (more on that later) or go all Mark Hanna on the crowd (much more on that later) like Matthew did.
  • Michael Fassbender wasn't present at Critics Choice Awards and at SAG. He is not there because he is filming Macbeth. That's  one good excuse. (prayer circle for the movie to be good)
  • Delicious Josh Holloway showed up to present the award for the Best Actor in Comedy and the award went to hilarious Ty Burrel. I'm so happy, he is awesome.
  • Then Modern Family won best ensemble. Julie Bowen said Sofia Vergara will give a speech because America loves her and her boobs. As far as boobs go, teenage Ariel Winter can challenge her, I think, Me and most people on twitter were shocked and jealous of her cleavage.
  • President of SAG appeared on stage and started talking about a bunch of different stuff. He was also nice to Tom Hanks. That's a first this Oscar season.
  • Michael Douglas won for Behind the Candelabra and said 'Matt, we went head to head'. Goddamn, I love Douglas' gay jokes.
  • Bryan Cranston won best actor for Breaking Bad and gave the best speech of the night being charming and as usual hilarious.
  • In memoriam was incredibly sad. Gandolfini :(
  • Then Breaking Bad won best ensemble. I'm so hoping next year it will be Thrones.
  • Matthew McConaughey's speech was absolutely insane in a wonderful way. I mean it was all over the place but it was so genuine and passionate. All that was missing was the mention of cocaine and hookers and the glorious sound you can hear playing on this site.
  • That Oscar is his. The only reason he is not nominated for BAFTA is that barely anyone in UK saw his movie.
  • Cate Blanchett's clip was 'I saw you Erika!". I loved it.
  • Blanchett was on fire. First she slightly dissed Matt:
  • Then this happened. That third gif is arguably the funniest thing that happened this Oscar season so far.
  • Best ensemble went to American Hustle. What? I had to suffer through seeing Lawrence on stage and listen to Cooper ramble on. If this wins BP at the Oscars this will get more hate than Crash and for a good reason too. Anyways this is what Cooper said on O.Russel later - He is the reason why all of us wanted to become actors when we were children. I think he was tripping balls.
  • Anyways that was presented by Ben Affleck who looked all sleepy and tired until Cuba Gooding Jr. stormed the stage:
  • And here are some other highlights: Emma Thompson photobombing Nyong'o, Pitt's haircut and Streep pointing to Ewan McGegor's junk:

    1. Bryan Cranston is just the best isn't he?
But yeah, Dallas Buyers Club isn't even out over here in the UK until February 7th but I would've thought the judging panel would have been able to see it in advance

      Great post as always :)

      1. He's so awesome!

I think they didn't see it, otherwise Matt would be nominated, maybe it's more difficult to get them to see the screeners or something? Either way a shame there is no love for DBC there.

    2. When I saw pictures of Natalie Dormer's head my instant reaction was: WTF?! Then I googled her and reminded that she's filming Mockingjay, such a relief!

I'm so thrilled that Cate Blanchett is winning all the awards so far! That gif you posted is hilarious. It's amazing how witty she is considering how regal she looks each time she hits the red carpet.

      1. I would never do that, especially for some lousy Hunger Games movie :)

Yes, it's such a fun juxtaposition - I love that she has such a wicked sense of humour.

      2. Yeah, I remember, you're not a fan of Hunger Games. :D
What I meant was that better do that haircut for a role than simply for fun (? I have no idea how such haircut can be fun.) But even her can't sell that haircut to me, it's just simply no.

      3. I think it could be worse if she shaved that all off, thank God she has enough hair to cover it :)

    3. His HAIR!!! I read your comment but I thought you were talking about the long hair and then BAM half shaved. No.

A part of McConaughey's speech was on the news today, the magical place part. I turn my head for once second and he's talking about space ships and being the man... I didn't understand a thing but it was hilarious. He's precious, always sounds so honest and unpretentious.

      1. I really don't know what possessed him to do that.

I love that it was on the news! :) You gotta admire his style :)

    4. Nice wrapup, Sati! I am so out of the loop this awards season. I didn't even know the SAG awards were last night. Glad to hear Breaking Bad did well. McConaughey's speech was great, too. :D Hope he gets another one at the Oscars.

    5. I opened your tab and I was like.. what song? And I was hoooked! Love it!

And I seem to be as tired of the awards as I am about my school stuff. Maybe I need to see all the movies that are being nominated.. Who knows!?

    6. Glad you covered all this, because I skipped the SAG awards. I must continuously admit, like you, that I can't understand the love affair with American Hustle. This year has been very ho-hum in my book.

      1. AH is ridiculously overhyped to the point it's embarrassing.

    7. I love those Cate gifs! And Cranston. I hope that Thrones starts winning next year too, I was getting kind of annoyed at all the interviewers on the red carpet that had so obviously not seen Game of Thrones. I would've asked better questions. Your music confused the shit out of me at first, it's like camouflaged with my task bar, I had no idea where it was coming from.

      1. Good that I didn't see that, I'd start sending these jackoffs some tweets.

It's coming from the stratosphere :P

    8. I'm happy Bryan Cranston won. And it's a good victory for Breaking Bad. I hope someone revokes Cuba Gooding Jr.'s SAG card because he's just annoying little shit who never should've won an Oscar.

    9. I didn't watch SAG so thanks for the recap!

A reporter confuse Alfre Woodard with Angela Bassett??! Seriously, she should be fired! WOW Natalie Dormer is absolutely stunning! I'd do the same too if I were as gorgeous as her. She'd turn heads even more with THAT haircut.

What's up w/ Ben Affleck not getting enough sleep in these award shows?? Dude, you haven't even played Dark Knight yet, ahah.

      1. It was some dude, Woodard immediately called him out on it. i mean it was terrible, but she is truly humorless person, if I was a reporter I wouldn't approach someone like that in the first place.

Affleck looks like he has given up on life lately :P

    10. Sati-- Your reviews make me want to watch these reward shows, but I think it's actually your writing that's the fun part--not the awards show.

      ReplyDelete
    11. Great post Sati! I did not watch it, so your visualization helped a lot.

I really love Lupita as a person, I watched her at Actresses round table and she's amazing. I liked her in 12 Years a Slave too, but winning over Lawrence? No. I just watched American Hustle and she literally steals every scene.

I think supp. actress is the only unclear acting category this year. We already know other winners.

      1. Jesus, really? Lawrence's performance is the most overhyped performance of recent years. Not only is she miscast, she is a bloody cartoon in this movie. And it only says bad things about the film if this stole the scenes.

        Delete
      2. She's not a miscast. She's young, so what?! She does her job really good :))

      3. I think you're completely wrong on all accounts.I liked Bale and Cooper but she was much too young for that part and the script was a mess which really didn't help.

    14. Dormer looks fucking amazing with that hair cut. She pulls it off completely. Growing that back in will be such a bitch.. she's probably going to have to either cut it all off to a pixie eventually or use extensions. In the meantime, it's awesome.

      1. Yeah it's such a brave move for her, but she covers it up well when she needs to - she still has a lot of those gorgeous hair :)

    15. McConaughey goes balls to the walls with his speeches, and he might talk about being such a good actor you could do it on Neptune, he is sincere.
I'm gonna miss Emma Thompson the most at the Oscars - she's a requirement for all of these shows.

    16. Yay for Modern Family! I really should start watching award shows, huh? It's been great (and hilarious) reading about them here too, though – any more coming? (Jeez, I'm oblivious…)

Cate Blanchett basically giving the statue a hand job! *dies of laughter*

    18. Haha, that Blanchett gif never gets old. I hope Leto's Oscar speech will be a bit more spontaneous, as I'm not a fan of those rehearsed speeches either.
