We are now 33 days away from the release of It Chapter Two. Having just rewatched the first movie yesterday and having seen Jade the Orient scene just now, that screened last night along with the re-release of the first movie in USA (as always fuck the rest of the world, right? God bless helpful redditors who uploaded it there) I'm very excited. I'm rooting for this movie to beat the record set by the first one. It's a horror film backed by a major studio, with big budget (and you can really see that budget, the production design alone is lovely) and with a runtime of over 2 hours and 40 minutes. I want it to make so much money and I want it to be good and from the looks of it, it will be
5. Stephen King wrote something new for it
We all know Kubrick straight up traumatized King with his adaptation of The Shining and King doesn't get involved in making of the projects based on his work. But he enjoyed Chapter One so much not only did he offered notes on the script but even wrote an all new scene for it.
4. It's been a month since Stranger Things 3 and the wait for more is already unbearable
The relationship between It and Stranger Things is funny - Stranger Things is clearly inspired by the novel. The first season was released in 2016 and then when the movie adaptation came everyone was already so in love with the show and wanted more. I think without that nostalgia fuel/the fact people just fell in love with a similar story, the adaptation wouldn't make all that money - it has become the highest grossing horror movie of all time. And another thing - Finn Wolfhard stars in both, so the connection in audience's minds formed naturally. It's only been a month since season 3 and we have so many more months of waiting for more, so I just cannot wait to see characters I like in a story about friendship kicking some supernatural ass. Before we can return to Hawkins, Derry will do.
3. Pennywise
I think Pennywise is already up there with Joker and Hannibal Lecter among some of the most iconic cinematic villains. Skarsgard did an amazing job in Chapter One and from the looks of it, he continues to impress here too. The film got R rating and the justification for it seems to suggest Chapter Two will feature Pennywise at even more brutal and sadistic than the last time.
2. The batshit insane things from the novel appear to be in it
The novel, written in actuality by COCAINE, has some of the most insane things ever in King's stories. There is a certain ritual and certain unexpected turn of events that features things that are so crazy I'm not even sure if it can be portrayed on screen. But from all the footage we got so far it looks like Muschietti is really going to go there. You know all those turtle references in Chapter One? Dear God is it actually going to pay off here?
1. Bill Hader (and most of the adult cast)
Jessica Chastain's involvement will always piss me off (Amy Adams would have elevated this so much. No matter how good this movie will be, it would be so much better with Adams) and I seriously doubt we will get any signs of pulse or warmth from her. Then there's James McAvoy who in all the released footage looks like he just watched Dark Phoenix and all the life force left his body, leaving a hollow shell. But thank God, the rest of the adult cast looks fantastic. James Ransone and Andy Bean are so perfectly cast it's almost freaky. Isaiah Mustafa looks like he has enough to do for people to finally care about Mike and Jay Ryan is lovely as Ben. But I think it is Bill Hader people are most excited about. No, No. I KNOW Bill Hader is someone people are most excited about. And we all like him, because it is impossible not to. With Barry reminding everyone just how talented he is outside the comedy, I'm guessing he will effortlessly steal the show and Ritchie and Eddie will be the heart of the movie.
Ah, I'm so thrilled for this! I already asked the movie theater for the poster, because I have the Chapter 1 poster and I just cannot not have the second!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge Chastain fan either so I'm not sure how it will turn out. I'm mostly excited about the men. AND the kids coming back in flashbacks.
Also... that ritual thing... I mean.... okay. That's literally the only thing I read in the book that scared me. Gross stuff. Adult version in the film? I can live with that.
I think the only thing that is too crazy to adapt is the whole orgy moment and they wisely skipped that in chapter 1 and it won't be in chapter 2. King was definitely high as kite when he was writing this lol
DeleteChastain is all right in the 8 minute scene I saw but it would be so much better with Adams. Also it pisses me off she got the gig thanks to working with the director before AND she got her friend cast as Audra. What the hell lol
McAvoy better not phone it in because even though I love him as an actor I still can't get around 5'7 McAvoy playing BIG Bill. Yes, weird thing to get stuck on from the novel, but I can't shake it.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited and I agree with you about Pennywise. I'm so happy for Skarsgard, I hope we get to see more of him.
Stephen King writing something intrigues me and scares me. Can he write us an apology for his kiddie gang bang scene in the novel?
Dont worry his low energy will distract you from height issue :)
DeleteIn his defense he was probably so high he cannot even remember writing that part 😂
I don't know what's happening to me but Midsommar and It: Chapter 2 have been 2 of my most anticipated movies of the year. The first It straight up fucked me up and I honestly can't wait for the sequel! It arrives in the UK the same day I land from holiday so I'll be dragging my jetlagged ass into the cinema as soon as possible for it :D
ReplyDeleteWow, that is dedication! It's gonna be a long and wild movie after all :P
DeleteI'm halfway through the book right now, and I honestly can't wait for the sequel. It was definitely written by Steven COCAINE King. lol
ReplyDeleteI don't mind this cast especially James, Jay, and Bill, but I'm confused by how goodlooking everyone is. lol In the book, the guys are described as having actually aged - like balding, chubby, etc. It felt like the original experience took a toll on them. Here, they're just hot.
Well, that's Hollywood for you :) WB wants to make that money and out-gross the first one. And the thirst for Bill in those glasses is out of control on letterboxd and tumblr, my God I've seen some shit in the It tag, there's a lot of gay fan fiction about Ritchie and Eddie :P
DeleteI can kind of see where fans are getting ideas for Ritchie and Eddie, and it'll be interesting if they actually make it canon in the movie. :)
DeleteI think they will :P Everything points to that, omg Bill is gonna kill it so hard, we are not ready
DeleteI know I already said a lot about this on twitter, but I love this list. The 8 minute scene in the restaurant gave me confidence that this cast has chemistry, and that's so important for this story. I loved IT Chapter one so much because of how well the kids played off of each other. I felt like they were truly friends. The restaurant scene took me back to that too.
ReplyDelete31 days to go!
Bev sticking those chopsticks in Ritchie's mouth, Mike hugging Bill and everyone freaking out about what the fortune cookie said was so well acted, I'm so excited! I cannot believe we are getting an adaptation this long, there's definitely enough substance so that's really a treat for the fans
DeleteI hadn't even heard of Stephen King's involvement! I'm actually more excited with that and the run time it sounds like their going to actually tell the story instead of just trying to shove it into a quick two hour everything cut format.
ReplyDeleteOf course now especially after Stranger Things I'm going to have to try to block out thoughts about who could have played Bill ;)
Oh, who? Steve? :)
DeleteHa :) Not who I was thinking of but there's always room for Steve!
DeleteOh man, this is one of those movies I am so want to see, but kind of scared to. Maybe I will watch them on daylight, with my hands in front of my eyes, peeking through my fingers :))
ReplyDeleteChapter 1 has some of the scariest moments in recent horror films and I am sure this one will top it.
DeleteI can't wait for this film to hit theaters!
ReplyDeleteSame, I am literally counting days!
DeleteI really need to watch the first one, it now seems obvious!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so much fun!
DeleteI cannot wait for Wednesday, Chapter 1 and 2 back to back! It seems that for once we are getting a movie at the same time as everyone else, probably before everyone else given the time-zone we're in. Yay! =]
DeleteIt also does a double feature on Wednesday here, which is my birthday, but I have to work the next day so no movie for me :/
DeleteI really can’t wait for this. The cast seems very well assembled.
