Sati's movie rating - 84/100
Plot: A loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point. For 3 days she is being haunted by a demon and if she won't escape the curse - she is going to Hell. That's one of the fascinating things about that film - if Christine deserves to go to Hell, then when I get there they will need to create whole new circles of anguish for me.
The heroes: Christine - normal, formerly chubby girl, with boring bureaucratic job, a boyfriend and a cat. She's a regular person, but after getting the one way ticket to hell she will do anything to survive. You feel for her and root for her - she is smart, brave and even if she does something awful - she has one hell of a motivation to do it.
The antagonists: Old gypsy woman, the curse and all kinds of horrible things dwelling in Hell. And there is also a possessed, talking goat. Reading about the film you may run on a nice theory going around that the whole thing is a hallucination caused by Christine's eating disorder - pay attention to when exactly the demon appears. You see food in the scene? You are on the right track.
Scare factor:

3/5 evil pumpkins - Many jump scares, many disturbing and freaky scenes involving, among others, flies and eyeballs.
Gore factor:

4/5 bloody Leatherfaces - Lots of blood and all kinds of disgusting things.
What makes it so great? Alison Lohman - beautiful, talented actress - she is the girl who made the time stood still and popcorn fly in "Big Fish" - who plays her role with a lot of dedication and makes Christine into cute, ordinary, likable but also capable of anything. There is also a lot of very cool, campy and gory scenes, lots of humour and cheesy CGI. The movie is directed by Sam Raimi and after all, he specializes in making entertaining camp.
