Ranking: Trailers for Awards contenders 2018

By s. Wednesday, October 24, 2018 , , , , , , , , , , 14 Comments
With Oscar season upon us I thought it will be fun to choose the best marketing so far for awards contenders. I was originally going to do top 10 but honestly couldn't find this many good trailers - there's Welcome to Marwen which trailer is laughably bad, First Man trailers which are all pretty damn meh and stuff that looks so bland that I don't even wanna see those films (Boy Erased, Ben is Back). So I came up with 8 best ones, first 3 of which are truly spectacular.

  • Sam Rockwell has his Globe and let's face it that is literally all that matters.

The Academy actually did something right this year! Twice!

    By s. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 25 Comments
The Oscars have done a number of terrible things today - including awarding two nominations to Passengers -  but it doesn't matter.

I had only two Oscar dreams today. And they both came true.

Bravo, Academy. Bravo for not awarding Amy Adams for doing practically nothing. Still, it would have been better if her movie didn't score 8 (undeserved) nominations nor that the nomination for Best Actress went to Meryl Streep for her Globes tirade (no one actually thinks it's just because of the performance, right?) but her missing out is glorious. Of course I cannot truly enjoy it because I keep seeing people whining about this 'snub'.

    88th Annual Academy Awards

  • I think at that point we should all feel bad for Kate Winslet's husband.

    88th Academy Awards Nominations

Tom Hardy as John Fitzgerald in The Revenant
I always watch the nominations live. I sit there, like a moron, looking at that stage and wait for them to announce the nominees. But given that this year I'm sick when the nominations happened...I was asleep in bed after taking antibiotics.

The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards

  • The magical journey of Golden Globes night started for me way before the ceremony actually started.

Promote, promote your way to that nomination...

    Hardy in The Revenant
It was such a beautiful time. When you used to get excited about Awards season, while lying to yourself that people who really deserve the recognition are gonna win, or at the very least get nominated. It is no more for me this year.

Tom Hardy, arguably biggest break out star in 2015, who appeared in 5 different films and one popular TV series did not get a single SAG or Golden Globe nomination this year. That is unpleasant. But the behind the scenes stuff and the fact that HFPA nominated both Mad Max and The Revenant for Best Drama, while ignoring Hardy, whose work is integral to those movies' success, is just ugly.

    87th annual Academy Awards

  •  I haven't slept in 30h. I also had about a million alcohol units.  This will be a fun post.
  • Queen Rosamund. Holy mother of God.
  • Is her waist even human? Damn.
  • Red carpet thoughts?  There was some bullshit nonsense 'ask her more' thing spoken by Reese Witherspoon in her annoying voice. People are saying this year actresses were asked more relevant questions than usual. I don't know what red carpet you watched, but that's just a lie.
  • Keira Knightley's dress was impossibly awful
  • Neil Patrick Harris' opening was really fun. Yeah it was singing and dancing, but it was really spectacular and I loved how genuinely joyful and respectful it felt.
  • The production values of the show this year were absolutely amazing. Also stuff like this.
  • I really liked NPH throughout the show. Harris's lines "in Zero Dark Thirty she killed Osama bin Laden. In Million Ways to die in the west I pooped in a hat" really made me laugh
  • Unfortunately there were almost no Gone Girl references which was a wasted opportunity, seeing how Ros's dress was the color of blood. All they needed to do is get her a boxcutter
  • There was a great moment when Harris talked about how much money American Sniper earned and he said that American Sniper is Oprah - cue to horrified and confused Oprah - cue to Harris 'Because you are rich'. Oprah wasn't digging Harris's style at all and she looked so lost.
  • Robert Duvall - best poker face

    Thoughts on BAFTAs

    By s. Monday, February 9, 2015 , 18 Comments
  • Goode. Ruffalo. Hiddleston. Cavill. I wonder how many ovaries exploded on that red carpet tonight.
  • There were no bloody commercials so I was literally holding in pee for 2h to see Goode because I knew he will present.
  • That's LOVE.
  • And they didn't show it in the broadcast!!!!! WHY GREAT BRITAIN, WHY?! I ALWAYS TRUSTED YOU!!!!
  • But you gotta adore how they don't censor the F words in clips.
  • Fry called Patricia Arquette Rosana Arquette and her husband's face was hilarious
  • Fry also made a crack about Russian soldiers and Goode looked so horrified
  • Fry mentioned the tradition of blowing a kiss and decided this time it needs to be an actual kiss, he came down to Norton and Keaton because 'he saw what Norton did on stage in Birdman'. The two kissed him.

    20th Critics Choice Awards

    By s. Sunday, January 18, 2015 , 28 Comments
  • All right, this year's Critics Choice Awards were not as eventful as last year's. I blame the lack of McConaughey and no awesome fuck ups like malfunction when Bullock won last year which resulted in her 'what the fuck?!' Also can I just say I think it really sucks that some of the actors don't show up because they know they won't win. Getting nominated is still a big deal.

The 72nd Annual Golden Globes Awards

  • Yeah, in case there was doubt, Kevin Spacey is the best.
  • But before we get to that, and the horrible things HFPA has done last night such as:

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Nominations

    By s. Thursday, December 11, 2014 , 27 Comments
Rosamund Pike, Best Actress in Drama - Gone Girl and Mark Ruffalo, Best Supporting Actor - Foxcatcher
     What did we learn today?

We learned that if your heart is pure (kind of) and you are rooting for the movie (that you haven't even seen yet) and it has your darling Fluffalo in it, amazing things can happen.

Foxcatcher which wasn't even present in most of critics' top 10 and nominations (while Boyhood triumphed, that sound you hear is me vomiting) got a big boost this week with Steve Carell getting both SAG and GG nominations and the film getting Best Picture nomination as well as the inclusion among AFI's top 10 11 of the year. But it did come with a price - apparently where it triumphed, Gone Girl was absent.

But let's focus on what's important - Mark Ruffalo is a double SAG and Golden Globe nominee this year. Oh, yeah!

    86th annual Academy Awards

  • The Oscars are behind us and it was quite the show, after the ridiculous and awful hosting of Seth MacFarlane last year Ellen DeGeneres did quite the job last night. She called Matthew 'dirty pretty'. I loved that.

  • I'll keep this short because you are all probably heading to Oscar viewing parties and/or starting to drink really soon (I am, so stay tuned for my crazy tweets) + making McConaughey and above gifset took me a lot of time.

  • No kidding - the members of BAFTA must have dropped lemmons before voting.
  • So much insane shit happened - Abdi won supporting, Chiwetel won leading, Gravity won so many awards and then the main prize went to 12 Years a Slave...

  • Fist of all, I'm a big fan of Archer but Aisha Tyler was so awful hosting that ceremony. Wow. Not only was she extremely nervous, awkward and intrusive, talked too fast and too loud and had terrible material, she had issues pronouncing the names of the people she wanted to tell her awful jokes about. Apart from her cool intro of McConaughey late into ceremony, she was just terrible. Jesus Christ, I've never seen Amy Adams more uncomfortable in my life. Everyone looked so confused and bored. It gets worse as then she actually kept responding to people on twitter and facebook in such a rude way even I was appalled. It was kinda like 'I'm a famous (well she isn't, really, because who the fuck knows who she is apart from Archer fans, but that's another matter) actress so I know I was funny because look at me I'm so awesome'. I kinda lost the desire to see Archer premiere after seeing her comments.

The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards

    By s. Monday, January 13, 2014 , , 48 Comments

There were few awesome surprises during last night's Golden Globes, my favorite depicted on the above gifset. There was some laughter, lots of drunk people and few glimpses of Fassy. It was fun.
