The Ten Best Superhero Movies of All Time RELAY

By Sati. Tuesday, October 28, 2014
M.Brown of the awesome Two Dollar Cinema passed me the baton in The Ten Best Superhero Movies of All Time Relay by Bubbawheat, of Flights, Tights and Movie Nights.

Here are the rules:

1. The list of movies will be passed to another blogger who will post their list within a week.

2. The blogger will take their list, remove 3 movies – with explanations, and replace with 3 new movies – with explanations.

3. If a movie lasts five rounds without being removed, it becomes locked in; it is permanent and can no longer be removed from the list.

4. If a movie is removed three different times, it is locked out and can no longer be put back onto the list by someone else.

5. Once four movies are locked into place, bloggers will replace 2 movies.

6. Once eight movies are locked into place, bloggers will replace 1 movie.

7. Once all ten movies are locked into place, the relay will be complete.

Locked in: The Avengers, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2, Iron Man, Unbreakable, The Rocketeer, The Incredibles

Films to choose from: Oldboy, The Crow, Blade 2, X2, Superman 2

What I'm taking out:

Superman 2 - I'm not a big fan of the franchise and the character to begin with, sure the guy should be present in this relay race somewhere but I'm not the one who has to keep him in. I'm not big on X men movies too, but the love for this franchise seems to be strong so I'm not taking that out. And there is no way I'd deprive the relay of the awesome darkness of The Crow and Blade 2.

Oldboy - that one I'm taking out purely because I don't think people even realize it is based on a comic book, plus the race is called superhero and....well, it just doesn't strike me as this kind of a story.

What I'm putting in:

Guardians of the Galaxy - oh come on. We've gotta have this in. If freaking Spiderman 2 is in and something called The Rocketeer (what is that?) then you've gotta have the movie that was arguably most fun normal people had in theaters this year (I had more fun during Gone Girl but I think we can all agree I'm not a picture of sanity). We need our underdogs. Avengers may have larger than life heroes - billionaires, super spies, Gods and...Mark Ruffalo and all his divine curly hair but Guardians are the opposite  - guys who no one roots for who do the right thing anyways and all of that is served in a truly incredibly fun package.

Thor - this will probably get thrown out in a matter of seconds by the next participants but I just love this movie. It's my favorite Marvel film along with Avengers and Guardians - I love the humor, the chemistry between Hemsworth and Portman and obviously Loki. It's just such a fun movie, it has everything - funny scenes, good romance, great villain, brave hero and it even has cute dogs and Idris Elba.

So the list now:
locked - The Avengers, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2, Iron Man, Unbreakable, The Racketeer, The Incredibles
and - X2, Blade 2, The Crow, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor

I'm gonna go ahead and pass this to someone with actual film knowledge - Alex of And so It Begins.

  1. Thanks for joining in! I'm a fan of Thor, but I'm not quite sure it's top 10 material. Guardians is such a great movie I can see why it been picked more than once. Sad to see Superman go, but I'm not sure what I'd remove in its place.

Also a quick bit of housekeeping, it's the Rocketeer, and Blade 2 is now also locked in place so Alex is swapping out 1 of the last 4.

    1. Pleasure! It;'s probably not but well, it's top 3 material for me :)

Rocketeer fell victim to my lack of familiarity with it and autocorrect :)

  2. Yaaay Guardians! I just rewatched it and Idk, maybe it will surpass The Avengers for me. I love the humour in it soooooooooooo much and it looks amazing.

    1. Yaaaay :) I don't think anything can top the Hiddles-RDJ-Ruffalo combo for me but Guardians is an excellent movie.

  3. Great pick for Guardians! Such an awesome movie. Thor is meh though. Would've gone for Winter Soldier myself :) But I do agree with you on one other thing - what even is a Rocketeer?!

  4. Good work. Hate to see Oldboy go because it is such a great movie, but you're right about it not being a superhero flick. I knew Guardians would be returning. Haven't seen it yet, though. Extremely glad to see Blade II hanging in there.

    1. Guardians is one of the best comic book movies I've seen - it's so light, fun and entertaining, hope you'll like it when you see it!

  5. Yay! I'm glad Guardians is back in there. I preferred Thor: The Dark World, but when I went back and watched the first one after the Avengers came out, I liked it so much more.

  6. That is an excellent list as well as the choices that you put in. I'm just glad Blade 2 is still in there as well.

    1. Thanks! I genuinely like Blade movies. Even the third one - it's just so bad that it's hilarious.

  8. Ouch. My feelings.

Okay, fine...Oldboy makes no f--king sense on this list. Whatever. I hate you guys. *runs away crying*

I'm better now. As for your additions...couldn't agree more. I wanted to put Guardians on...but I purposely wanted to avoid anything that had already been said, even if I absolutely loved that damn movie. And Thor? Well...I'm with Brittani on loving the second one more (I think that's what she said), but I'm glad it's on there either way. Well done!

    1. Thor got thrown out too :) It's no Rocketeer apparently :D

  9. Oh I didn't know Guardians was thrown out before, I knew it wouldn't be for long tho. I like Thor too, too bad the sequel is rather meh. Well, I'm certainly glad Unbreakable is a lock, I LOVE LOVE that film. Oh and The Rocketeer is a lot of fun!! It's got some cheesy moments and the hero is not particularly charismatic, but it's got an amazing villain in the form of a swashbuckling Timothy Dalton ;)

    1. Unbreakable is so good. I think I actually prefer it to 6th sense. I love that twist in the end, that completely shocked me.

  10. Yeah! I am also glad, Ruth; finding “Unbreakable” as a lock because I am also a great fan of this movie. You know I had watched it countless times, instead of other best superhero movies. But still I do not know; who had produced this movie? Please tell if you know.

  12. Guardians of the Galaxy in! I agree with that, but, Thor---I don't really agree; I think the second Thor or the second Captain America is much better. Yet, I actually love Thor :)

    1. I liked Thor more than the other two you mentioned but they were still fun :) The second Thor had a very weak villain, though.
