(220) Batfleck rises? + links

By s. Friday, January 29, 2016 30 Comments

  • Batfleck! Officially the only thing in this movie that looks good.
  • They are going ahead with that Blade Runner sequel and the shooting starts in July. Why, God. Why would you in your infinite wisdom allow this to happen? I can almost see Harrison showing up and Gosling gunning him down and taking over the film. I like Gosling, he seems like a nice guy and he is a good actor. But I'll punch him in the dick if this happens.
  • Leonardo DiCaprio has met the Pope and probably received his blessing and absolution for being nominated in spite of being white. One more month, Leo. One....more...month.
  •  Have you guys seen the video of Leo talking about that book to the Pope? He gave him a book and spoke to him so eloquently about it and I just couldn't stop laughing. This was literally all over the news today.
  • I know people are talking about that boycott or whatever but I really think this is gonna be one of the most watched ceremonies. The media is just going fucking crazy about the fact that Leo is finally winning. Here in my country we have this whole constitutional crisis going on, there is still this huge immigrant issue happening in Europe, there is big stuff going on but yet Leo meeting the Pope is main news and it is immediately followed up with the reporters talking about how he is gonna win Oscar.
  • I am so fucking tired this week I won't find the strength to see The Revenant this weekend - I'm going next weekend - but I did check out of curiosity and most screenings are almost sold out. I so want to see it but all I can do for the weekend is sit on my ass and rest and I need to be in better shape to endure the insane beauty that is wild, feral Hardy on the big screen.
  • Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are expecting a second child!
  • This video proving Amy Schumer stole jokes from other comedians is pure gold.
  • So we know what wins Oscar next year - Birth of a Nation. Yeah and that dude who plays the lead and I believe also directed the film, who is also, by the way, a raging homophobe (and was accused or rape), is getting nominated. The only way he isn't is if he is rides over a child or something. Even then I can see people finding some way to defend this guy.
  •  The one good thing? Armie Hammer won't have another flop on his hands.
  • Joseph Fiennes was cast in a movie where he will play Michael Jackson and Jada hasn't made any videos about this yet. What is going on?
  • There's new footage from The Witch!
  • Lena Headey was on Kimmel's show this week and this happened:
  • Brittani reviews terrific Bone Tomahawk
  • Alex shares his favorite performances of this year's Oscar nominees
  • Ruth lists 12 most intriguing movies from Sundance
  • Fisti writes about why it's a great thing that Leo will finally win his Oscar
  • Mark reviews The Revenant
  • Mariah shares a great post on OscarsSoWhite
  •  and m.brown finally saw Sicario

    88th Academy Awards Nominations

Tom Hardy as John Fitzgerald in The Revenant
I always watch the nominations live. I sit there, like a moron, looking at that stage and wait for them to announce the nominees. But given that this year I'm sick when the nominations happened...I was asleep in bed after taking antibiotics.

Spotlight is a great film, but it should have hit harder

In early 2002, the Boston Globe covered the criminal prosecutions of five Roman Catholic priests in an article that won an uncontested Pulitzer Prize. The issue of child rape and sexual assault of Roman Catholic children became a national scandal The coverage of these cases encouraged others to come forward with allegations of abuse, resulting in more lawsuits and criminal cases. Spotlight tells the story of reporters who researched and wrote the article.

    (216) Someone is building the time machine to the 80's, right? + links

  • I used my magic powers to get him a new gig. Hear me out - few days ago it was announced that Chris Nolan is finally too annoyed with Academy ignoring him so he decided to make a movie about one of their favorite subjects - World War 2,  Dunkirk to be more precise (remember that incredible scene in Atonement?), which is also the movie's working title.
