Most anticipated movies in 2020

By s. Monday, December 30, 2019 , , , , , , , , , , , 30 Comments
Before I start publishing my best and worst of 2019 lists, here's that time of year again to get excited about what's coming in next year. There's so many wonderful movies on the horizon, including several very anticipated sequels. And my top pick already feels like potential best Christmas gift ever. Here we go:

  • First of all, like a dumbass, I forgot to wish you all Merry Christmas in last RF so I hope everyone had a great Christmas and got tons of wonderful presents!
  • 3h Director's Cut of Doctor Sleep is going to be released in January. I'm very excited. The movie was so-so but Rebecca Ferguson's performance is still my favorite in 2019.
  • Universal is patching Cats after releasing it. This is the first time something like this has happened. Shame on them for not fully embracing that hellish mess!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

    By s. Saturday, December 21, 2019 , , , , , , , 14 Comments
    (spoilers!)

I never thought that I will see something more embarrassing when it comes to ruining the franchise than 1. WB handing the keys to DC kingdom to Zack Snyder and giving him three tries to make a movie then on the third try going "oh, fuck no!" and firing him mid-making of the film 2. Dumb and Dumber wrecking Game of Thrones so bad that the early seasons are now unwatchable because you know it is all heading towards explosive diarrhea.

Enter whoever was in charge of Disney's Star Wars trilogy (do we blame just Kennedy? Surely more people were involved in making final decisions?). Because whoever made the calls here just wrecked 40+ years worth of a franchise.

  • I saw TROS today but not before I sent out that classy tweet.
  • Oh it's not a good movie. At all. I'll have the review up on Monday. Here is my letterboxd one.
  • First poster for A Quiet Place part II.
  • First trailer for The Woman in the Window.
  • Something magical appears to be happening between Saoirse and Florence.
  • Olivia Wilde, the feminist icon of pretentious film twitter proclaimed as such after her mediocre movie Booksmart was released, had this to say about her participation in Richard Jewell. So she didn't fact check if the journalist really had that relationship prior to obtaining the information? This is just so insulting. She takes the part and now believes people will buy her excuses.

    Marriage Story

    By s. Sunday, December 15, 2019 , , , , , , 22 Comments
Marriage Story is a wonderful, wonderful movie. It's one of the year's best scripts (Parasite still is my win here) and it is truly expertly paced - it's not a short movie, but you aren't bored and even though the characters have many, many flaws you care about them enough to be curious what happens to them next.

  • I must have watched that Wonder Woman 1984 trailer at least 100 times since it dropped. It's so outstanding. It's even better than all three trailers for the first movie.
  • Here's the badass Blue Monday remix used in the trailer.
  • And Pedro Pascal is having such a blast!

Gal Gadot returns as Wonder Woman in stunning first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984

    By s. Sunday, December 8, 2019 , 16 Comments

It's finally here! The long awaited trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 just landed online and it offers the first look at Diana using her new powers, Steve being back from the dead, Pedro Pascal's villain Maxwell Lord and Kristen Wig's Barbara Minerva. It's a gorgeous, very well made trailer that is not making it easier to wait for the movie, which is going to be released on June 5th 2020.

  • Brand new, stunning poster for Birds of Prey. Character posters. New trailer premiered last night at the Con in Brazil at the panel attended by the cast, but it wasn't released online yet. Rumor has it it will be this month.
  • The award season is upon us with Golden Globe nominations coming on Monday. So far AFI announced their choices (absolutely awful, Game of Thrones is there but Barry isn't, Joker? OUATIH?!) and The Irishman won best film from NY film critics.
  • Stephen Graham has joined the cast of Venom 2
  • Trailer for Black Widow. Let's not pay attention to the awful one in the main role. Rachel Weisz! Florence Pugh! and of course Daddy Hopper! That CGI near the end looks extremely dodgy but other than that and the accents that's a good trailer.
