The impressive first trailer for Luca Guadagnino's "Suspiria" is here

By s. Monday, June 4, 2018 , ,
Luca Guadagnino, who bored me half to death last year with the tale of a peach and Armie Hammer's relentless Oscar thirst is back and this time he made something that may actually interest me - a remake of the classic horror film Suspiria.

A remake? Of Suspiria? Starring Dakota Johnson and Chloe Moretz? Well, that should sound horrific for all the wrong reasons. But the film has good buzz around it - with the gory footage from it shown at CinemaCon just as the people in attendance were eating lunch and making them nauseous - and an interesting, raw approach to the story. One of the most well known aspects of the original are the vibrant colors - here everything looks painfully real which will no doubt make the carnage all the more unbearable.

A darkness swirls at a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe's artistic director (Tilda Swinton), an ambitious young dancer (Dakota Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Lutz Ebersdorf). Some will succumb. Others will wake up.

Also the older gentleman may or may not be played by Tilda Swinton in make up and not by someone who is called "Lutz Ebersdorf". We just don't know for sure.

Suspiria opens in USA on November 2nd

  1. Well, I think everyone knows of my love for Dakota, so I can't wait for this. lol I can believe it when she says she went to therapy after filming this. It's a really twisted teaser and makes me wonder what the trailer will be like. :)

  2. I liked the trailer but UGH CHLOE GRACE MORETZ AND DAKOTA JOHNSON.

I have a feeling they're going to increase Chloe's role too since the character she plays in the original is only in a few scenes.

I'm cautiously looking forward to this. lol

    1. I hope her character has exactly as little to do as in the original :)

Dude, Brittani nailed my thoughts exactly.

I've never seen the original (though it's notorious, right?), so I guess I'll head into this one fresh. I was kind on the fence with all the intense gazing and giant letters, but some of that shit at the end was way too freaky to miss out on.

      So, yeah. In.

    3. I have just read the script. If it helps, there is ton of nudity

  3. The colors and music from the 70s version are iconic. Visually the trailer looks different to the 1977 film, I agree it's more real from the new footage. The original has a paper thin story and is all about atmosphere/style. Maybe they paid more attention to story this time(hopefully)

Widows trailer just dropped(from your anticipated list)

  4. "Luca Guadagnino, who bored me half to death last year with the tale of a peach" bahahahaha. Still never saw that movie, but after reading your thoughts, it's a solid pass for me.

I'm not thrilled with Dakota, but she looks hella fierce in that trailer. And Tilda? Slay me now with those black-eyed stares, girl.

    1. Yeah CMBYN was so boring for me. A lot of people loved it but I barely finished it

  5. This is so perfectly unsettling and so perfectly its own thing that I will now be there opening night.

Also, I am NOT here for the Dakota Johnson shade, everyone. That girl singlehandedly made the Fifty Shades films as watchable as they were (which admittedly was not much, but STILL), and was downright terrific in A Bigger Splash, so clearly Guadagnino knows how to get the goods out of her.

    2. I didn't love A Bigger Splash, but the performances (especially Fiennes) are AMAZING.

  6. You now have me much less skeptical about this one! I refuse to watch trailers, but your descriptions have me very interested. Especially the difference re- colour.

It wouldn't surprise me if Tilda played a male character! She looks so different in so many movies its remarkable. She must be an alien, surely!!

  7. I'll be honest - I didn't like the original Suspiria. Looking forward to the remake, though. Hoping for improvements.

    1. Same! The trailer and the script are really making this look great, I don't think it will be outstanding unless they added a lot to the script I read but it will be an interesting remake for sure
