Motifs in Cinema 2013 - Man against Society

Andrew of Encore's World of Film and TV is hosting his annual blogathon of Motifs in Cinema. I decided to pitch in and explore a theme that was present, one way or another, in many movies last year - Man against society. Whether those films featured characters fighting the law, government or the ideas followed by majority but not themselves, cinematic year of 2013 was filled with the acts of defiance.

LCR’S Recast-athon

Jack from the awesome Lights Camera Reaction came up with a very fun idea - what if you could recast some roles from 2013? So he asked us to choose 3 and write why would that actor do a better job. You can still join in and I must say most of the ideas people have so far are like 10x better than what we actually saw in those movies.

Stoker

Unusual. That is the first word that comes to mind when thinking about Stoker. The film is unlike anything I've seen recently - the director Chan-wook Park has very unusual, vivid style and his movies always feel like stepping in a very weird and creepy dream. Stoker is his English language debut and the film blends between usual Park's style and this new component which is the story that is much more approachable than any other told in Park's movies yet at the same time it's very hard to understand what drives the characters and guess what lies ahead.
