Scene of the Week: Casino

By s. Monday, July 16, 2012 ,
Baby, you're the one
directed by Martin Scorsese

The scene: It's the first time that Ace Rothstein (Robert De Niro), the man who controls the Tangiers casino sees Ginger (Sharon Stone) - beautiful hustler who is having a dispute with a man she was accompanying. The man gives her chips as a payment but Ginger doesn't think it's enough so she starts yelling and then proceeds to joyfully throw his won chips in the air as a revenge, while other people in casino start grabbing them. Ace doesn't intervene and he just stares at her, while Ginger looks back, turns around and starts walking away, glancing at him and smiling, almost daring him to do something. In his voice over we hear Ace saying: What a move. I fell in love right there.

  1. I might be the only one who thinks this way, but "Casino" was my favorite of Scorsese's Crime movies

    1. I think my fav is the one where Pesci is screaming at DeNiro on the desert - the speed with which he is shouting his lines is unbelievable.

  10. Stone was awesome in this film. I recently rewatched Basic Instinct for the first time in about 15 years and her performance just blew me away.

    1. Absolutely. she is a very underrated actress, I'm happy she got nominated for Casino but the fact it was the film only nod is ridiculous.

    2. Great movie. It always gets a little overlooked compared to Goodfellas, but it's probably just as good.

    3. It is quite overlooked, I'm pretty sure if it was the first one and Goodfellas would be released later Casino would be considered a better movie.

    1. It really is. I love OST for this movie - some say it has way too much music in it, but I adore it.
