Blog Award!

By s. Wednesday, August 1, 2012
Sofia from FilmFlare, Vern from Vern's videovangaurd and Mettel Ray
have awarded me with the Liebster Blog Award.
If you got one here is what you need  to do:

1. Tell us 11 things about yourself
2. Answer 11 questions the blogger who awarded you asked
3. Pass the award to 11 people
4. Give them 11 questions.
5. Tell them about the award
                                6. Don't award people who are recipients already

1. My name is Margaret
2. My favorite movie is Black Swan which I saw around 10 times.
3. I always wanted to be a doctor but I suck at physics so I study law.
4.From the age of 17 I had every possible hair color - red, blond, very red, black....now I'm back to my natural one though I'd love for my natural to be red like the one Nicole Kidman has in Practical Magic.
5. I can read in 4 languages. I can speak fluently in 2, not-so fluently in one more and understand some of it in 1 more.
6. I'm nocturnal. Like bats. Or Christian Bale.
7. I regularly donate money to various animal shelters.
8. My Yorkie Gustav is a creature I care more than for myself. I never smoke near him, as dogs absorb 60% more poison than people. I do not care what I absorb, though.
9. I wish I lived in apartment building with big windows in London. Or decaying mansion in Louisiana.
10. I could live without candy, but if Italian food was banned I'd die.
11. I'm 5' 1''. Yep, I should walk around with a ladder.

Questions from Sofia:
1. Most embarrassing moment in a movie theatre.
When I'm the only one laughing or crying.
2. Most cherished memory of a cinematic experience.
I love it when you sit there before the lights go out. The anticipation is just wonderful. One particularly memorable cinematic experience was The Artist, though, as they were many teenagers with popcorn but loved the movie so much they didn't make a sound. In fact it was so silent, I could hear the wind outside the cinema.
3. Favorite book to film adaptation.
American Psycho, which is my favorite novel.
4. An actor/actress whose wardrobe you'd steal.
Charlize Theron, especially her character from Arrested Development.
5. A film character that has changed you (could be anything from finding a reason to live to a new magic trick).
I cut my hair because of Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
6. A film that scares/scared the hell out of you.
The end of The Blair Witch Project. And I live near the woods, so it's a lot of fun watching this one.
7. A scene from a film that popped into your mind... just now!
The scene in the finale sequence of TDKR When Batman is in the Bat, Catwoman is on Batpod and she rides beneath the Bat and Batman glances at her. It's so quick, swift and breathtaking in its simplicity. One of the scenes that shows how awesome of a team they are.
8. Is there a review/article that has been laying around in your drafts for a long time?
Yep. My 10 favorite female characters.
9. A film you're looking forward to watch (unreleased).
Pacific Rim because after the flood of dramas in Oscar season, all of which I will probably finish seeing somewhere in April, it will be nice to see Idris Elba fighting with...what was that again? Monsters? Aliens? Robots? Whatever it is it will look awesome as Guillermo del Toro is behind that movie.
10. Musicals: yay or nay?
Nay. I prefer more serious films and there really is a handful of musicals I like -Moulin Rouge! and Sweeney Todd are among those few which I didn't hate.
11. What was for you the most memorable use of sound (song or effect) in a film?
I loved the way they used Opposites Attract in Black Swan, It's a process in Moneyball and How to Disappear Completely in Earrings.
12. A little known actor or actress that you love.
I don't think little known is good way to describe him, but I adore Michael Sheen and he is ridiculously underrated.
13. Whose life you'd like to see depicted in film?
Jacqueline Kennedy. Jeanne Tripplehorn was amazing as her in Grey Gardens, too bad she only had one scene.

Questions from Vern:
1.  What would your dream movie theater have, besides just what is being played?
All the answers that come to my mind right now are absolute filth.
2.  Name one movie that actually would be good to remake?
Thirst, but only if Fassbender plays the priest. I want to see him have a lot of sex and suck blood.
3.  What irritates you the most when blogging?
When people copy/paste their comments on many blogs or when they comment without reading.
4.  What do like the best when blogging?
The continuous source of inspiration other bloggers and their work is.
5.  Do you play drinking games to movies?  If so, what do you drink?
I usually drink vodka with orange juice or red wine. I once tried playing drinking game during The Departed whenever Dicaprio makes constipated face but I was hammered after 20 minutes of the film.
6.  What is the best way to help save us when dolphins try to take over the world?
I'm rooting for dolphins. People are, generally, shit.
7.  What movie do you flat-out refuse to watch, no matter how good people say it is?
Nobody says it's good but I will never ever see Human Centipede 2 because as sick as I may be and as much as I enjoy horror shock scenes there is nothing remotely all right or redeemable about having a scene where mother kills a newborn by accident just to shock the audience.
8.  Name at least 3 movies that you still watch on other formats besides DVD and Blue-Ray.
Practical Magic, Titanic, The Crucible, All on VHS.
9.  Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?
Well, of course I did!
10.  What is a good movie that you have a hard time convincing people to watch?
I gave Micheal Clayton to my favorite person and he still hasn't seen it. I keep telling him I will write the words "You didn't watch Michael Clayton" on his tombstone but he won't cave in.
11.  What toppings do you like on pizza?
Any, really. Chicken and green peppers the most.

Questions from Mettel Ray:
1. What movie made you love movies?
Moulin Rouge!
2. What else you like except movies?
Music, though as it's mostly film music I'm gonna go with design/editing/taking pictures.
3. Favorite breakfast food?
Well I always drink coffee and I eat yogurt or something liquid which I can live on. So yeah breakfast is something I don't really think of or even do that often.
4. Going to the cinema or staying at home?
Going to the cinema!
5. Is there a movie you hated in the past but now like?
A Beautiful Mind
6. Superman or Batman?
Batman, definitely.
7. Does gossip effect your opinions about actors/directors?
Celebrity gossip? No, not at all. Weirdly for me and my prejudices about many things I'm able to separate actor's life from his/her talent.
8. What is your movie related dream to achieve?
I'd love to take part in Comic Con, TIFF and Cannes film festival.
9. How many out of 6 movies can you name I’ve used on my RULE images on this post?
4 I think.
10. Latest movie you regret watching.
Unborn. Stupid, bad, forgettable and worst of all not enough of Idris Elba who wasn't even shirtless in it.
11. Favorite movie/TV-show quote.
Smokey this isn't 'Nan. This is bowling. There are rules.
- The Big Lebowski
(on the phone:) I've got more on my plate than spinster at wedding. That wasn't the reference to your daughter, by the way.
- Malcolm Tucker, The Thick of It, 3x01

11 bloggers I'm choosing:
My 11 questions:
1. What is your favorite movie scene?
2. Your favorite performance?
3. Movie character that is most similar to you?
4. Favorite movie quote?
5. What is one movie where you would change actual director/actor/actress for someone else?
6. What is the first film you saw?
7. Would you change any character's fate? If so, whose and for what?
8. Your favorite track from movie soundtrack?
9. What book would you like to see adapted for screen?
10. Favorite guilty pleasure movie?
11. Favorite trailer?

  1. Whoa, thanks for the shout out, that just made my day! Jesus, really, that was awesome.

Loved all of these responses. Epic post here, and I dug it. I knew you loved your little doggie beast very much, but I didn't know you were an animal rights supporter. I am too! I donate to animal rights organizations regularly and too am on team Dolphins, For the Win.

    1. If that made your day just wait for what I'm posting today ^^

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! I support animal rights any way I can, really, I care about them more than for people. They are such innocent, helpless creature, at least people can defend themselves.

  2. Human Centipede 2 also popped in mind when thinking of answers to Vern's questions. If in an alternate universe it won an Oscar, I'm still not going to see it.

    1. Yep me neither. Those films are absolute trash and not in a good or funny way.

  3. Congrats on the award! I'm a new discoverer of your blog and I have to say your design is beautiful.

Michael Sheen is fantastic. Have you seen Unthinkable?

Not defending Human Centipede 2 or anything, but I did prefer it to the first. Also, for similar reasons, I guess you'd want to avoid A Serbian Film.

I look forward to seeing more of your writing :)

    1. Thank you! Glad you stopped by!

He really is, I did, loved the movie - it's very underrated.

I did see A Serbian Film it was really sick but it was slightly better made than first HC which just look like bad home video.

  5. Congratulations! And what a fantastic post. I'm glad I only got tagged once because my answers were long-winded. :)

Michael Sheen is great. I love his performances in The Queen and Frost/Nixon, but I want to see him in The Damned United and Beautiful Boy.

I'm staying away from The Human Centipede trilogy all together, but I am intrigued by Gary Oldman's presence in Unborn, however bad the film may be.

    1. Thank you!

Sheen is absolutely fantastic in The Damned United the film is great too. I have yet to see Beautiful Boy.

Oldman was such an odd casting for this movie, I just couldn't believe he starred in something that bad. Had similiar feeling when I saw him in Red Riding Hood too.

  6. Haha I'm 5'1 too!

Thanks for the award Sati! I don't know if I can come up with questions or bloggers (all of them are getting the award :P). I will try and make a post on this.

  9. Thank you Sati for the award :)

Changed a lot of hair color when 17, well I only dyed my hair brown-ish then (my real hair color is black). Have you ever tried blue or green color?

I too love Italian food, especially pasta.

Working at night usually have better result for me too.

Anyways, that's a lot of questions you've answered. There's some comments in my movie influence post, if you'd like to reply them.

    Thanks again!

  10. Great post, Margaret! I always enjoy these posts where you get to know more about the blogger. And I can't help but adore someone who treats her dog better than she treats herself and regularly donates to animal shelters. :)

    A few other comments:

    1. Fassbender as the priest in Thirst? ... interesting! I would definitely watch that.

    2. Michael Clayton is a terrific movie.

    3. I haven't seen The Departed, but your remark about the drinking game absolutely cracked me up. You were hammered 20 minutes into the movie, eh? That must not have been DiCaprio's finest moment. Well, at least you didn't take a shot every time someone dropped "the F Bomb" in Pulp Fiction. You wouldn't have made it 5 minutes. :)

    1. Thank you! I enjoy those posts too, it's such a fun read. I love animals. Even when some of them scare me, I consider them to be much better creatures than people.

Glad you like Clayton, one of my all time favorite films. DiCaprio was actually good in the Departed but he sometimes makes expressions that genuinely crack me up. Doing that with PF would probably be a good recipe for alcohol poisoning :)

  11. Awww... thanks so much for tagging me Sati, such an honor to come from you... I mean your blog is phenomenal!

I LOVE reading your answers, not surprised you were tagged by multiple people, I'd have tagged you too :) Btw, I'm also petite, 5'3, seems like I'm shrinking every time I go to the doctor!! Oh man, I hate it too when people copy/paste their comments on many blogs or when they comment without reading, I refuse to go to that person's blog as I think it's just bad taste, y'know. I also refuse to see Human Centipede, but then again I'm very squeamish so there are a lot of movies like that I can't handle.

    1. You're welcome! Thanks so much!

I have no idea maybe I'm shrinking too, I always write my height according to what my ID says :) It's so annoying, I mean one of the best thing about comments is letting people know what you thought of that particuliar post they wrote, if someone just outs the same thing everywhere, it is kinda pointless.

  13. Fun way of getting to know you a little better! LOL The Blair Witch Project, I had the same reaction to the ending, creepy...How to Disappear Completely by Radiohead was awesome in Earrings, I agree

5.) drinking game: If you are ever in US, you need to order a "screwdriver"...you better believe it ( :

Thanks, I'll see what I can do! I think I can manage 11 questions. I was actually thinking of posting a series of my favorite scenes from movies, so that question is perfect timing. The tough job will be figuring out new questions

    By the way, 465? don't you mean 365? ( :

Awesome,I can't wait to see your favorite scenes. I thought of making post about them too but it's so much work I just do Scene of the Week post every now and then.

Shit, will correct it in the second, I type way too much and my fingers are rebelling lately :)

  14. So. Your favorite movie is "Black Swan" and your favorite book is "American Psycho" and you cut your hair because of Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

    Mm hmm.

  16. Great answers Sati and very well deserved! I hate it when people comment when clearly not having read your reviews. Someone commented on my Girl with the Dragon Tattoo post saying I was glad I enjoyed it when I made it clear I didn't enjoy it! Very frustrating. I think my response was a bit too harsh and they haven't commented since!

I recently started watching Thirst and loved it (my friends didn't though); Michael Fassbender would be fantastic in it!

Have you played a drinking game to Donnie Darko? The rules are so long, we had to stop half way through because we were constantly drinking! It was fun though :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thank you! Jesus, that's just awful no wonder you were mad, that's just blatant ignoring of the review just to write something in the comment, for whatever reason.

Yep, Thirst is definetly not for everyone, I loved it though, one of the finest vampire movies I've seen and seeing how they always remake Asian films this will probably get remade one day too.

No, never did that, but watching Darko drunk must be quite surreal :)

  17. Sorry it took me this long. I've been out of town for a few days and am only now going through my daily reads to see this week's posts!

I love Sheen too, definitely underrated! I really must give American Psycho (the novel) another go, last time I tried I find it quite boring at times...

I refuse to watch the Human Centipede, one or two, I don't care. I've seen the South Park bit with Steve Jobs and it was disturbing enough.

WHERE WAS THE FLASHY SPOILER ALERT, SATI?? Fortunately, as soon as I read "last sequence of TDKR" I scrolled down really fast. And screamed a bit, yeah.

Anyway, thanks for doing this and congrats on getting the award from more people! :D

    1. It's all right, hope you had nice time out of town! I wish I could go away without computer for few days because stuff I want to do on te blog keeps piling up :)

American Psycho has slow beginning but then it really starts going and it's very amusing, but extremelly disturbing read.

Haha, I'd put spoiler alert but that moment I describe is about 5-10 seconds long, just one of the little moments that made the movie so great for me :)

Thank you for awarding me, it was a pleasure answering all those fun questions.
