10 most anticipated movies in 2019

By s. Sunday, January 6, 2019 , , , , , , , , , ,
Just like last year I decided to make a list of my upcoming anticipated movies. Granted, a lot of films that I anticipated last year sucked (The Nun...) but number one turned out to be awesome, so fingers crossed for this year too.

Before you ask me about that Quentin Tarantino movie - no, I do not look forward to him exploiting a tragedy and I will certainly not be paying to see it. Unless it turns out Shannon Tate kills Charles Manson in the end I'm fine waiting to stream it for free, thanks.

And I don't give a damn about Star Wars. You don't get to make me sit through TLJ and expect me to come back, Disney.

So here's my list:

22. Charlie's Angels / November 1
21. Little Women / December 25
20. Downton Abbey / September 13
19. Detective Pikachu / May 10
18. Fonzo / TBA
17. The Joker / October 4
16. The Lighthouse / TBA
15. The Woman in the Window / October 4
14. The Personal History of David Copperfield / TBA
13. Her Smell / March 29
12. The Kitchen / September 20
11. Antlers / TBA

10. Avengers: Endgame / April 26
Directors: Joe and Anthony Russo
Cast: We know who they are
Plot: We don't know what it is
Why I'm waiting for it? I'm not that psyched over it. They shaved his beard, come on. Since we are going with "Captain "I speak like a little girl in monotone tone and pompous line" Marvel to the rescue" bit (yeah I am not going to see the film she is leading in cinema, just gonna read the spoilers so that I'm not lost in Endgame) I'm even less psyched. This is more "let's get it over with" for me. But at least RDJ appears to be trying.

9. The Irishman / TBA
Director: Martin Scorsese
Cast: Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci
Plot: A mob hitman recalls his possible involvement with the slaying of Jimmy Hoffa.
Why I'm waiting for it? When Joe Pesci comes out of retirement, you watch the movie he did it for.

8. The Lion King / July 19

Director: Jon Favreau
Cast: Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen
Plot: Oh, we know the plot
Why I'm waiting for it? Baby Simba, you guys. Also maybe the nostalgia will make me feel younger for 2 hours.

7.  John Wick: Chapter 3 / May 17
Director: Chad Stahelski
Cast: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Ian McShane
Plot: TBA
Why I'm waiting for it? It's Keanu kicking ass, but if I hear a dog dies in this I ain't seeing this until I have the ability to fast-forward.

6. Hobbs & Shaw / August 2
Director: David Leitch
Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Vanessa Kirby and Idris Elba
Plot: A spinoff of The Fate of the Furious, focusing on Johnson's US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs forming an unlikely alliance with Statham's Deckard Shaw.
Why I'm waiting for it? Jason and Idris mean I'm there opening day. Also Vanessa is awesome.

5. Lucy in the Sky / TBA
Director: Noah Hawley
Cast: Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm and Dan Stevens
Plot:  The story of a female astronaut who, upon returning to Earth from a life-changing mission in space, begins to slowly unravel and lose touch with reality.
Why I'm waiting for it? The plot sounds really cool and the cast is very interesting, also who doesn't like looking at Dan Stevens?

4. Fair and Balanced / TBA
Director: Jay Roach
Cast: Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman
Plot: A few women decide to take on Fox News boss Roger Ailes and the toxic male culture he presided over at the network.
Why I'm waiting for it? The actresses alone will make it worth seeing

3. It: Chapter Two / September 6
Director: Andy Muschietti
Cast: James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader
Plot: Twenty-seven years later, the Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back.
Why I'm waiting for it? Though I wasn't the biggest fan of the first movie I enjoyed it and it will be fun to see the grown up versions of the characters, minus miscast Jessica Chastain who is gonna undo all the god work Sophia Lillis did.

2. Us / March 13
Director: Jordan Peele
Cast: Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss
Plot: A mother and father take their kids to their beach house, expecting to enjoy time with friends, but their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some visitors arrive uninvited.
Why I'm waiting for it? The amazing and cryptic trailer really helped to build the hype for this movie and I have absolutely no idea what the twists in this will be so I'm very excited. Hopefully I can remain in the dark for the next two months.

1. Midsommar / August 9
Director: Ari Aster
Cast: Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, Will Poulter
Plot: A young woman reluctantly joins her boyfriend on a summer trip where things quickly go awry.
Why I'm waiting for it? The script for it is amazing and while I'm sure the "critics" will whine about this not being as edgy or as original as Hereditary this is shaping up to be the horror event of the year and I'm certain Florence will deliver one hell of a performance. I absolutely cannot wait for this. If you thought Hereditary was dark and disturbing, you are not going to be prepared for this.

Unfortunately as I check the release dates for my top two movies they have no release dates set here yet, so please someone from USA adopt me.

  1. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to The Irishman, Us, Midsommar. The Witch was ok but I didn't go gaga over it. Still, I hope The Lighthouse is good.

Other films I'm anticipating, in random order:
    Toy Story 4
63 Up (the Up series by Michael Apted is something special, every 7 years)
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
    Toy Story 4
    Zombieland 2
    The Goldfinch
    Star Wars E9
    Glass (sequel to Unbreakable)
    The Souvenir (w/ Tilda Swinton)

    1. Ah yes Glass is very soon! I'll definitely see it but I'm not sure about going to the cinema for this one

  2. Well damn, there are so many movies here I haven't even heard of! I hope we're in for another good year movies wise.
Hereditary absolutely scared the shit out of me so I'll be watching Midsommar once it's available for streaming and I can cry and hide at home!

    1. Haha, that's a good plan :D Midsommar will be more gory than Hereditary

  3. I'm honestly really looking forward to Little Women. I'm not sure if Gerwig will do it justice (Winona Ryder version was sooo good in the 90s), but I'll have faith.

    I'll adopt you.

      Yes, please do! :D

  4. Good to know I'm not the only one mourning Steve's beard! Of course without the facial hair I pretty much ignore him anyway.

I'm not the biggest horror movie fan but the trailer for US was so good! Plus I love to theorize and speculate about it for the next few months :)

The Lion King I cried so hard in the original no doubt I'm going to do it here. It will be a question of which one I cry harder and embarrass myself in- Lion King or Dumbo.

    1. I won't even watch Dumbo in public, no way I won't have a breakdown during this :)

  5. I added Lucy in the Sky to my own must see list because oooohhhh that director and the cast! I hadn't heard of it. We share some of these already with Us and Endgame (you know my stan ass has it at #1 lol)

I'm wary of The Lion King...like super wary. I'll still probably see it but I'll be scared while watching.

I just finished reading The Woman in the Window and I'm so afraid it's going to end up like Girl on a Train. I liked the book but the story has potential to be very Lifetime-y, the director needs to be careful with it. Adams is going to slay though.

    1. Yeah I know it must be your #1 :)

Yeah I heard the book is kinda like Girl on a Train but maybe Amy finally winds the Oscar for it!

  6. Cool list, I haven't heard of some of them (the Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman one sounds great). I don't have a specific list, but I'm excited to see Avengers: End Game, The Irishman, The Joker, and Triple Frontier on Netflix, mostly because of the cast. I'm also excited to see season 5 of Peaky Blinders and maybe we'll get a new Mindhunter season? Fingers crossed

  10. Us is my number 1. I'm so excited about it! Disney isn't getting my money either. I liked The Last Jedi but Solo was trash and frankly I'm tired of giving them money. I didn't know about The Fast and Furious spin-off and I don't care much about it since I wasn't crazy about the latest film but I'm not sure I can pass a movie with Jason Statham and Idris Elba.

    1. Yeah it's impossible to pass on a movie with these two :D

  11. Holy f--k, JOE PESCI? Are you kidding me? I had no idea. That's my number one. Done.

That's the best news ever (I didn't have the slightest f--king clue).

As for the rest of this list, I'm with you. Lucy in the Sky sounds badass.

Oh, by the way, you can stay at my house, but you're going to have to sleep on a beanbag in Violet's room.

  12. Great picks! Us looks fantastic, and, yes, all hail Joe Pesci. So excited for The Irishman.

  13. Awesome list! I'm really excited for Avengers Endgame, although I need to see Avengers Infinity War first. I'm not sure how I feel about Detective Pikachu. I'm not really sold on seeing live action Pokemon.
