The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards

By s. Monday, January 13, 2014 , ,

There were few awesome surprises during last night's Golden Globes, my favorite depicted on the above gifset. There was some laughter, lots of drunk people and few glimpses of Fassy. It was fun.

  • I didn't watch red carpet but apparently Cate Blanchett whispered into DiCaprio's ear that she hated every second of her interview with Ryan Seacrest.
  • DiCaprio arrived with Bradley Cooper. I'm sure Jonah Hill was jealous.
  • Amy Poehler and Tina Fey were so funny during the opening, their joke about Clooney in Gravity was hysterical. Unfortunately, Clooney wasn't there last night.
  • Then there were some prosthetic dick jokes. Tom Hanks played along.
  • Jacqueline Bisset won for one of the TV categories and lost her shit on the stage. Watching her, I felt like I was tripping.
  • Amy Poehler actually won something - for Parks and Recreation. And she made out with Bono.
  •  She got the award from the hands of once adorable and famous Chris O'Donnell and Khaleesi. Khaleesi was representing the Game of Thrones team beautifully, even though Game of Thrones wasn't nominated in a single category last night.
  • Never forget, never forgive.
  • Andy Samberg and Brooklyn Nine-Nine got awarded. I'm still laughing because Hill was there and in Franco's roast, well, you guys remember what was being said about Samberg's new show there.
  • Breaking Bad won for best series and Aaron Paul yelled YEAH BITCH from the stage.
  • You've gotta love RDJ
  • I'm kinda happy for Amy Adams, because she never wins, but I'm not even gonna comment on Jennifer Lawrence.
  • I'm also not gonna comment on Hustle winning the comedy.
  • The Hunt and Blue is the Warmest Color both lost to something called The Great Beauty. What?
  • There was this bit where Poehler was pretending to be Fey's son and was looking for her father and this happened:
  • Her won for screenplay and Gravity won for Best Director. No argument for me.
  • Idris Elba wasn't wearing a  bow tie. Thanks to his twitter, we know this is not good news.
  • Jared Leto won for Best Supporting Actor. In spite of having something that looked like the dead cat on his head, his speech was really lovely.
  • Gravity lost in score to All is Lost. P. Diddy had some sort of meltdown/drunken flashback on stage which was hilarious. He totally freaked out the composer.
  • U2 won for best song. Well it made Elba happy, so I'm happy.
  • Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor for Comedy and I think everyone is happy about that. His speech was lovely. They kept showing the Globe in his hand.  LEO WE WILL NOT DIE SOBER!!!
  • And then Jessica Chastain, who usually looks pretty but her dress choice last night was unfortunate, gave the award to McConaughey. It was awesome, as McConaughey is my number 2 for Actor and Eijofor isn't even among my nominees.
  • Then this happened:
  • Cate Blanchett won and made some Judy Garland comments that people are now shocked by. Calm down, people.
  • Johnny Depp showed up all confused as if he escaped from another dimension to award Best Drama
  • it went to 12 Years a Slave. I'm not happy about it, but at least it got Fassbender on stage.

    2. Nice recap! By far the most I was excited for was Matthew, Jared, Leo and Amy. Just because these people never win...but by most I was so happy for Matthew and Jared. I felt like I was the only one rooting for these guys to win. Had to do WOWS battlecry after that *pounds on my heart*
Being a Judy Garland fan, I couldn't take offense because it was pretty much true...which made it slightly hysterical.
PLEASE drunk tweet more often, at least until it gets bad for your health :D

      1. Yeah I mean, it's not like she ridiculed Garland. People are so overreacting about this.

I'll try to drunk tweeet the Oscars and Baftas:P

      1. I honestly never heard of this one until today.

I just cannot wait for April 6th. The wait for this show is excruciating.

    5. Awesome! I didn't see it but definitely gonna watch Leo's acceptance video! Nyong'o and Adams look like they're wearing the red carpet…

    6. Excellent recap, Sati. That Clooney would've been twenty times better had he been there... but I still almost pissed myself. My other favorite was Fey's Blacklist joke. So awesome...

    7. Great recap, I always look to you for recaps of Award shows because I always forget to watch them when their on. Living in the UK is a pain because award shows like the Globes or the Oscars never get advertised on like what channel it's on, if not at all which is a shame.

But, I did manage to see the whole Emma Thompson fiasco which was hilarious. She is like my spirit animal. My albeit tipsy spirit animal.

      1. Thanks! :) I have to track those down myself, BAFTAS also. They never show them on TV and if they did they'd translate and I hate that.

        Thomopson was hilarious.

    8. WHAT, is La Grande Bellezza this The Great Beauty? I disagree with the anon, 2/10 do not recomment at all. It bored the crap out of me. The Hunt was much, much better.

    10. Agree Clooney joke was really funny :) Mcconaughey's speech was my favorite of the show, he seems like a down-to-earth person in real life.
My theory is J Depp was always a bit eccentric, it's media who have made him into this sex symbol/movie star thing.
DiCaprio deserves oscar nom, he was great in Wolf of Wallstreet

      1. McConaughey's speech was my fav too, can't believe some people didn't like it.

Oh, definitely, unfortunately lately he turned into money grabbing whore all on his own.

    11. Aww, your last gifset, ASSEMBLE! I loved that crack about Clooney, I just wish he was there so we all could've seen him react in person. Tom Hanks looked so confused when they kept making fun of him. I had no idea who Idria Elba was until that bowtie remark. That was a major 'wtf' moment for me.

      1. Haha, yeah LO

He would probably laugh to his 30year old date :)

I was confused too, my God what was that, Hanks is such a sweetheart.

        Elba rules :P

    12. So happy for Spike Jonze, I really hope he wins the Oscar for screenplay. I've not seen Her yet as it doesn't come out in the UK until Feb, but it seems like a deserving winner. Plus, I wasn't the biggest fan of American Hustle.

Looking forward to seeing Leto sweep up these awards, he's my supporting actor win. Not a big fan of Amy Adams as an actress, but her speech was lovely.

Opening monologue was hit and miss. Loved the Clooney joke, aswell as the Julia Louis-Dreyfus bit. So funny!

I like Drew Barrymore, but what the fuck was she wearing?

      1. I don't nominate Her myself, but it's a good script.

Leto is somewhere in my category, I just wish Hill was nominated.

        Barrymore's dress was so awful!

    13. I know you don't like J-Law but did you see her photobombing that ugly cow Taylor Swift? That was funny.

I'm glad Leo won though I'm torn between him and Joaquin to win the Oscar for Best Actor.

Julia-Louis Dreyfus is hilarious and I love the speeches that Amy Adams and Matthew McConaughey gave. I wouldn't be comfortable being interviewed by that ass-clown Ryan Seacrest. He's a twat.

Amy Adams was the best-dressed of the night. I want her to do bad things to me.

I'm happy that Jacqueline Bissett won as I think it was overdue but what the fuck?

      1. I did, it was funny indeed :P

For me Hanks is the winner, but since they won't award him I'm rooting for Matt.

Ryan Seacrest is so awful, I really don't watch red carpet anymore mostly because the horrible interviewers.

Bissett was unreal. I have no idea what was going on there.

    14. It was nice to Brooklyn Nine Nine win, I love that show. Everything else was great too, but yeah, what the hell is The Great Beauty...???

Depp looked high or something, and not even in a funny way. I didn't like that.

      1. Depp is always really awkward. The thing that bugged me was how disinterested he looked.

    15. I am so tired of Jlaw I don't know what to do. I just can't believe she won. I won't say anything else. I have to be careful tho b/c if the Jlaw fanatics see my anti-Jlaw comments, then I'll get spammed. I don't dare speak ill of the Jlaw on twitter. People lose their minds. Also, how in the world did 'The Hunt' not win? I never heard of the movie that won? I've at least heard of 'Blue is the Warmest Color.'

I will say that I disagree w/ you on '12 Years a Slave.' I thought it won b/c it was unflinchingly brilliant (not b/c of "white guilt" as you said), but it's ok to disagree. That's what makes life interesting. That's why I enjoy your blog.

      1. This hype needs to die. The only consolation is that if her and the movie go on to win the Oscars the backlash will be huge.

Fuck them, I mean I did write something on her board and these people are crazy but it's also so hilarious someone would spend so much time spewing all this hate because there are people who don't think her shit doesn't smell. Why care so much? I mean if someone wrote something kinda negative about on of my favs I'd just let it go.

Thanks so much. Exactly, it's important to realize that most of the things are subjective to people.

    16. Jacqueline Bisset's speech was one of the most bizarre speeches I've ever seen on any award show ever. So odd. And yeah, Best Foreign Film was kind of a bummer.

    17. i'm guessing you didn't like 12 years a slave? lol. Lupita looked lovely as usually (best dressed in my opinion). Again I say, Hustle is hilarious and is definitely one of the funniest films nominated, but in no way is it the best film--in any category. the hosts were great--except that really uncomfortable somali pirates joke. really pleasantly surprised to see matt m win, but not at all upset about it. but jared leto is really my hero right now lol. i just love him so.

      1. I thought it was a good film, but I also found the script messy and the whole thing almost completely forgettable. I liked AH but yeah, it's not worthy of wins.

I'm rooting for Matthew for the Oscar.

    18. Love this recap! All those marvellous gifs! I kind of think this year's Golden Globes is a way to get all of the awards for American Hustle out of the way, so they can gives awards to better films at the Oscars. Jennifer Lawrence won't win an Oscar for AH, they're for sure saving it for Lupita Nyong'o. At least that's what I'm hoping!

    19. La Grande Bellezza is beautiful i personally prefer that over La Vi d'Adele so i guess i'm one of the few people that actually happy about it XD

Oh after reading your last post that include Elba and Bow Tie, i had the exact same things in my head. The man still look mighty sexy though. Uber happy about Leo and McCounaghey winning! and yeah let's not even acknowledge american bullshit.

    22. I knew you're gonna have a ton of fun Tumblr gifs on your posts, awesome! I didn't see Benny all night but I heard he was going from party to party. Glad to see you post him dancing w/ Fassy!

Depp looks positively baffled and out of place. Seems like he needs all the mask/make-up covering him to feel comfortable.

Ahah, I LOVE that bit where Poehler was pretending to be Fey's son, and Idris looks soooo handsome!!

    23. Awesome post! Haha, I missed that DiCaprio intro joke, which is probably second only to the Clooney one.

At this point, I think Cuaron will probably win Best Director at the Oscars even if Gravity doesn't win Best Picture. :)
