Tales for Halloween: 7 Tales from the Crypt episodes

By s. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 , , 14 Comments
Some of you may remember classic Tales from the Crypt series. Based on the eponymous comic books series, Tales from the Crypt is something that you simply don't see on TV anymore - thanks to our PG-13 media, whenever there are re-runs of the series now, it's heavily edited. Why? Because 20 something years ago you could show sex, boobs, gore and say 'fuck!' without people throwing a bible at you and TV executives taking sedatives.

Tales for Halloween: 10 most disturbing movie endings

By s. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 , , 40 Comments
The most memorable part of the film, more often than not, is the ending. It is the last thing you see before the end credits roll and the last thing you are left with. Sometimes the ending you see is truly shocking - because of the twist, because of how horrifying the events are, because it leaves things open ended. There are several endings out there that are so disturbing they are enough to cause nightmares. And who doesn't love scary stories with macabre twist just in time for Halloween?

Visual Parallels: Alien + Prometheus

By s. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 , , , , , 39 Comments
Alien and Prometheus, though set years apart in movie-making and storytelling terms, share many similarities. Both directed by Ridley Scott and taking place in the same universe, they have strong women as the protagonists - Ellen Ripley and Elizabeth Shaw - first one fierce to begin with and forced to fight for her own survival on board of Nostromo, where xenomorph is determined to kill every single passenger, second - a little naive and too trusting changes in the course of the story when she has to find the inner strength and courage to stay alive.

Performances I Love: Isabelle Adjani in Possession

By s. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 , , , 21 Comments

I can't exist by myself because I'm afraid of myself, because I'm the maker of my own evil.

Possession is a very difficult movie to get through - disturbing, bizarre and all in all hard to watch. It shows the destruction of marriage using many creepy plot devices, strange metaphors and often borders on horror movie, with all the examples of body horror that happen here. But it's all worth it because of Isabelle Adjani's performance in the film. I have yet to see The Story of Adele H. which features what is frequently called one of the best portrayals of madness in movies and it's also provided by Adjani, but for me, her work in Possession is absolutely hypnotizing.

Scene of the Week: Prometheus

By s. Monday, October 22, 2012 , , , , 28 Comments
  Hello Mommy
directed by Ridley Scott

The scene: After Dr Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) learns that she is pregnant with her boyfriend, who just died after being infected with something, she is horrified - not only the place she believed to be a beautiful miracle is a hideous nightmare - something strange and unnatural (the fetus is growing very fast) is growing inside her. She manages to escape and go to Meredith Vickers's room where she finds the machine that is capable of performing surgery. Shaw is trying to tell the machine that she needs a caesarean but since it's mysteriously programmed for a man all she manages to do is to program it to remove foreign object from her body. She gets into the machine, with the syringe packed with painkillers, as her stomach starts rising. The machine manages to cut her open and remove the fetus. Upon seeing it, Shaw looks at it with astonishment until it comes to life trying to attack her. She escapes and leaves her offspring behind, locked in the machine.

Scene of the Week: Halloween Edition - Mulholland Drive

By s. Monday, October 31, 2011 , , , 2 Comments
Mulholland Drive
directed by David Lynch

The scene: In a sequence that is bound to make you jump and turn your blood into ice cold liquid, two men are talking in Winkies restaurant. One of them tells another that he had a dream last night where he was sitting in this restaurant, talking to the man he is talking now and then they walked out and behind the restaurant there was a man with the scariest face one can imagine. The other man convinces him that he should face his fears, get out of the restaurant and see for himself there is no one hiding behind the building. The two men walk out of the Winkies and slowly walk towards the place the man saw the scary face in his nightmare. They walk closer and closer, step by step, and suddenly for just a short moment horrifying person peaks in from behind the wall. The man who had a dream collapses and presumably - dies.

7 films to see on Halloween.

By s. Tuesday, October 25, 2011 , Be the first to comment!
Halloween is just few days away and it's a perfect time for a little horror marathon. If your nearby theatres didn't prepare anything special - for example obligatory "Saw" marathon, you don't feel like seeing "Paranormal Activity 3" - and you really shouldn't considering the reviews - and there's nothing on TV, here are some suggestions for you. If you are easily scared you can always watch something related to magic and not filled with zombies, werewolves or vampires. Here are some recommendations as to what you may enjoy watching during Hallow's Eve:
