Keira Knightley shines in the first trailer for Joe Wright's Anna Karenina

While the recently released poster for the movie is a complete eye sore, the first trailer is just beautiful - Joe Wright is one of my favorite directors, despite being responsible for awful The Soloist. Under his supervision Keira Knightley always shines and she delivered her finest work to date in his Golden Globe winning Atonement. Though she also managed to create work so awful in last year's A Dangerous Method it made me want to poke my eyes out just not to see it anymore, she really looks impressive here and as for now she seems a lock for Best Actress nomination.

Jude Law stars as Karenin and Aaron Johnson is Count Vrosky. The cast also features Matthew MacFayden, Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery, Olivia Williams, Holliday Graignier (from the Borgias and upcoming new version of The Great Expectations) , Emily Watson and Kelly Macdonald. Dario Marianelli who won Oscar for his score for Atonement provides music again and the film opens in UK in September and in US in November.

    1. Me too! I hope it's going to be better than recent Anna Karenina adaptations.

  2. It looks absolutely stunning. They're doing something different with the look aren't they? And agreed Knightley in Atonement was wonderful. Wright is really her director cuz he brings out the best in her. Aaron Johnson looks really off, and that's the only thing I don't approve of here.

    1. Maybe he will be better in the whole movie, he was pretty good in Albert Nobbs and I didn't expect that after Kick Ass :)

  3. As I said in my "most-anticipated performances post" (yes, shameless plug): When Keira and director Joe Wright get together, it's magical. Can't wait to see this.

  4. This does look great. Reminds me of Doctor Zhivago in some ways. I just hope it has a strong script to support those gorgeous visuals.

    1. Me too, there are way too many movies nowadays that are so gorgeous but so empty at the same time.

  5. I'm not sold on Keira as you for this role, but I am hopeful that she'll do well under Wright's guidance as she has done so twice before. I'm glad you agree about the Soloist, that's Wright's weakest film, surely.

  6. Despite some nice visuals, I doubt I'll be going anywhere near this. Not for me.

  7. Pride & Prejudice and Atonement are not films I expected to like, but I loved them both wholeheartedly. I can’t wait for this movie. Hopefully an Oscar nom for Knightley looms.

    1. Knightley can be really awesome as in Atonement and Never let me go. I think she has a huge potential and I hope this movie will not go unnoticed in Oscar season.

  9. Anna Karenina looks astonishingly beautiful. I do like Wright-Knightley collaborations, Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, so I'm going to enjoy this one. And the cast is versatile.
